Extensively added to on Nov. 23, 2005 by user Fishhead64.

I know the Dictionary of Canadian Biography calls it Fort Mcleod (and this article says the same, almost word for word, something I plan on changing) but the only fort of that name I'm familiar with is East of the Rockies in South-West Alberta (Just South of Calgary). Could a more knowledgable Wikipedian enlighten me about this supposed other Fort Mcleod? --Zytsef 08:55, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is McLeod Lake really "the first permanent European settlement west of the Rockies in present-day Canada"? I thought Hudson's Hope was west of the Rockies, and Fraser founded it a couple of months earlier. Fishhead64 07:00, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Simon Fraser is stated in the current wikipedia page to have been married in 1810 to a prostitute. I have seen no reference to this anywhere else, however he is well documented (e.g. Dictionary of Canadian Biography online: http://www.biographi.ca/EN/ShowBio.asp?BioId=38559 ) to have been married to Catherine Macdonell on June 7, 1820. Her father, Captain Allan Macdonell was a prominent neighbour. The information that his wife died the day after him is accurate suggesting someone has tampered with the page. Not sure how to word this - from what I recall, William Fraser Tolmie chose the name Simon for his son Simon Fraser Tolmie, later BC Premier, in honour of Simon Fraser; conveniently "using" the family/clan-middle name. Don't know where I read this so posting it here.

That wording in the opening isn't right; Fraser's journey wasn't hte only factor in the 49th Parallel decision and it's not as if his journey was the clincher in what remained British in the Northwest; no time to consider rewording it but it's a bit simplistic and also misleading.....Skookum1 (talk) 18:11, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no record of him having any middle name, let alone Thomas. The inclusion of Thomas as his middle name here seems little more than a way of being able to call Simon Fraser University "STFU" instead of the usual "SFU". A large statue of Fraser is part of the recently finished condo/transit project in Vancouver called Marine Gateway. The statue is on the second story facing the Fraser River. And yes, the feet look as big as they do in the picture.
