The text of the entry was as follows: Did you know... that Su Bai (pictured), the first head of Peking University's archaeology department, is considered a pioneer in the archaeology of Buddhism? I noticed that the accounts of Su say: "1948年北京大学文科研究所研究生肄业", thus, I think he abandoned the postgraduate courses in 1948. Could you give me your advice, Zanhe? Thanks! Med Nyin (talk) 13:36, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Med Nyin: Yes, 肄业 means ending one's studies without graduation, but this does not necessarily mean he dropped out. 1948 was the year that the Communists took over Beijing. Many university professors fled to Taiwan at the time and normal studies became impossible. From the chronology, it seems more likely that because many professors had fled, Su Bai, a senior graduate student, was promoted to a teaching position, thus ending his studies. But without confirmation by other sources, it's better to leave it out. In any case, the article does not claim he received a graduate degree. -Zanhe (talk) 05:51, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
