Eichmann's motivations?

Years ago I read that Eichmann (either from his memoirs and from conversations with people in Europe and/or Argentina, I can't remember) said that he carried out the killing of the Hungarian Jews in an accelerated fashion because with the approach of the Red Army and the by-then widespread knowledge of mass killings of Jews in other parts of Central/Eastern Europe he feared an uprising among the Jews of Budapest (similar to what would happen a few months later in Warsaw by the Polish Home Army); Germany at that time relied almost entirely on fuel from Romanian oilfields (which was transported through Hungary) and would have been forced to surrender had the Budapest railyards been shut down or destroyed.

Also Himmler at the time was sending out feelers to the West (through the Swedes) suggesting that a separate peace could be concluded between Germany and the Western Allies, forming an anti-Bolshevik alliance. Thus Eichmann was expressly *not* simply following orders, in fact Himmler had ordered him to slow down the deportations to show that he could be more "reasonable" than Hitler (whom he suggested he would replace as Fuehrer); this is also why Himmler allowed the Kastner train.

Eichmann took it upon himself to speed up the deportations because he thought he would go down in history as potentially saving Germany from having lost the war due to lack of fuel and may have lied to Hoess about Himmler wanting it to go quickly.

I was going to add this to the main article but I can't remember where I read this and don't want to edit to be deleted as soon as it appeared because of lack of citation, but I think it deserves mention and/or discussion. Historian932 (talk) 20:46, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Babtism certificates

The Nuntius Botta of the catholic church rescued a lot of jews by providing them with Babtism certificates. The idea was developed by the later Pope Johannes XXIII. and Ira Hirschmann of the War refugee board in Istanbul. John XXIII baptized jews Raoul Wallenberg Foundation.--5glogger (talk) 09:28, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
