Dispute on Release

I thought I should bring this up. The first section of the article states that this was the first anime released to American audiences, "three months before Magic Boy". I assume this information was taken from Anime News Network's Encyclopedia entry on the movie. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=655

However, ANN's entry on Magic Boy asserts the same thing. That is, it was the first anime released to an American audience.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1501

There is a conflict in the Encyclopedia as far as a statement of which was first. However, White Serpent's U.S. release date in the entry is July 8th, 1961. Magic Boy is listed as being released on June 22nd, 1961. To confound it all, Wikipedia lists the release date of White Serpent as March 15th, 1961.

Could someone provide additional sources on the release dates?

Edit: I also found that IMDB lists the release date of White Serpent in the U.S. as July 8th, 1961. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051694/

I found this citation from Jerry Beck:
ISBN 9781569762226. {{cite book}}: Missing pipe in: |authorlink= (help); Unknown parameter |editorlink= ignored (|editor-link= suggested) (help
) - which confirms a July 8, 1961 date.

Suggest move to one of the official English titles

On the Toei website, this movie is called The White Snake. The only DVD version I could find calls it Panda And The Magic Serpent, the original English release title and how it's listed on IMDB. I can't find any reliable source for "The White Snake Enchantress".

I would suggest a move to one of the two official names, but I'm not sure which one should take precedence. Any suggestions? OsFish (talk) 07:14, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
