Taiybeh?

It would help to wikilink to current town, but cannot find it on enWiki.

Google Maps has "El Taebah", I'd say c. 15 km by road ESE of Daraa. I checked the subdistricts of Daraa Governorate, and it seems to be in Al-Jiza Subdistrict, but this specific Taybeh doesn't appear anywhere on enWiki (tried out all possible spellings). Arabic art. on Jiza ("town and administrative district") has "It is bordered to the east by the city of Busra al-Sham, to the west by Taybeh district,..." - but there's no "Taybeh district" on enWiki. So this Taybeh is either a lost (sub)district, or a sub-subdistrict. Help! Arminden (talk) 11:31, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

See Taybeh (disambiguation). Arminden (talk) 13:35, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to put in Conder's coordinates and it didn't work well (totally wrong place, see below).
My phone shows no menu for Google Maps, cannot get actual coordinates. Tried all active buttons, to no avail. Go figure. Hi Zero0000, maybe you can help out? Thanks.
Taybeh (Daraa)
Coordinates: 32°35′N 35°42′E / 32.583°N 35.700°E / 32.583; 35.700

All I can see is
32.565108,36...
and then the menu frame cuts it off and there's no way to copy what's there.
So maybe it's 32°56 N, 36° ...' E. Not what Conder wrote (32° 35' N., 35° 42' E.). I think we've had it before, but I can't remember the explanation, sorry. Arminden (talk) 14:08, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To editor

Aṭ-Ṭaībah in Jordan near Irbid. Other people's choices are for a place near Daraa in Syria that we don't seem to have an article for, see https://jo.geoview.info/taibe,168808776w . Zerotalk 02:19, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply

To editor Zero0000: Thank you. Conder's coordinates hit c. 5 km NW of what Google Maps shows to be now Taibeh (Irbid), in a now uninhabited place, but it is indeed SE of the lake, unlike Taibeh (Daraa).
The distinction is not quite that evident from the sources, but makes sense. Also, Taibeh (Irbid) is across the very deep & defining Yarmuk valley from Daraa, but some might have been able to associate the two - and both Taibehs were in Greater Syria at the time. Removed attempted etymology

Removed as unsourced, apparent OR, and probably BS:

Since the suffix -iYa means "mine", Taibeyah means basically: "My Tob" or "Our Tob" or "Me (of) Tob" or us, "We of Tob".

It was introduced in 2005 by anonymous editor who never contributed since (see here).

-iyeh is a typical Arabic ending for toponyms. The biblical name lacks that ending, as do the ancient extra-biblical sources. I guess it is an addition postdating the 7th-c. conquest by Arab Muslims, so beside being OR, this attempted etymology looks anachronistic and wrong. Arminden (talk) 11:34, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
