This appears on Hillerman's website however a quick (but not thorough) Google search turns up nothing about this center or the award that's not Hillerman-related. --A. B. 13:42, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article seems to have been hijacked by an Upfield enthusiast. Hillerman's work was highly original, and he was mainly inspired by the people of his native Southwest. There is too much about Upfield in this article. Obituaries of Hillerman make greater mention of his contact with Navajo veterans during and after World War II as an inspiration. The amount of material in the article that relates to Upfield at present consists of two short paragraphs. The points made in those paragraphs are amply supported, including direct support from Hillerman himself. There is nothing in the article about ethnicity.

I thought I read somewhere he was part Native American?

Never heard of this. As far as I'm aware, there were three American Mystery episodes, Skinwalkers, Coyote Waits, and Thief of Time. [1] - Parsa (talk) 03:50, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I also believe "Skinning the Night" doesn't exist. It doesn't turn up on IMBD or on any of the normal DVD vendors such as Netflix, Amazon, or CD Universe. However, there are four that do: Skinwalkers, Coyote Waits, Thief of Time and The Dark Wind. I moved this anonymous contribution here -- it's uncited and was put in the wrong place:

"Hillerman was awarded the Parris Award (named in honor of Parris Afton Bonds) by the Southwest Writers Workshop for his outstanding service to other writers."

There is an Awards section now, with all the specific awards mentioned in it, including the unattributed sentence above.Yes, it does seem to be named for Parris Afton Bonds. Text about specific awards was removed from the Biography section, moved to Awards, and new sources found documenting the awards to novels, his memoir, or himself. --Prairieplant (talk) 21:47, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In other series, there is a box at the bottom of the page with links to all the Wikipedia articles on the author and the books written. The main series by Hillerman, the Joe Leaphorn / Jim Chee series is done as 'Infobox novel series', which is different than the 'infobox book' that I have seen in a few other series. I find the nav boxes helpful when I am reading a series, to look at the article on one book or another, and to see the scope of the series at a glance. To have the nav box, would it be necessary to revise the book articles in Wikipedia to the infobox book format? I think I could do that for Hillerman's books.
