Infobox Paris Network

If someone with knowledge of the Paris trams feels enterprising, they might want to change the current Template:Infobox Paris Network generic to Template:Infobox Paris Network by including information about passenger numbers, construction dates, stops and line length. bz2 17:58, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Belleville (?) funicular (History section)

The History section says "The funicular that operated in Belleville from 1891 to 1924 is sometimes erroneously thought of as a tramway." Is this being confused with the Bellevue funicular (dates differ)?

I see the French article links both (what would be) Belleville funicular and Bellevue funicular (in the same sentence). I'll probably translate fr:Funiculaire de Belleville and then reword this sentence to link them both. Si Trew (talk) 08:37, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move to "Tramways in the Paris Region"?

Hello - A couple of us working on the Transport in Paris article, and thinking of moving it to a Transport in the Paris Region title. I would prefer that not do exactly that, no. The standard naming scheme that has evolved for the modern tramway systems in France is "[City] tramway", so

It's been a stickly question, because France is a bit special in its naming schemes. "Région Parisienne" is a common colloquial term for "Île-de-France" (
Région) and "Paris region" is a direct translation of that... it doesn't really matter much to me, it's just that I think it would be better to follow a common schema, and what you decide here will also decide about the Transport in Paris
move... we could decide together, perhaps.
We're thinking of moving the Transport in Paris article because most of Paris' transportation doesn't stop at its borders, but extends (well!) into the surrounding région. THEPROMENADER ✎ ✓ 17:15, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's generally true of most large city systems (e.g. New York City systems extending out into New Jersey, etc.), and I'm really not sure that it needs to be clarified to that degree. Wait, I just looked at the ridirect history. And the (projected) trams run quite a ways out of Paris. Mmmmokay. I still think 'Paris Region' would be better for reader comprehension and placement (in/out Paris), but if the 'wiki rules' are set at 'Tramways in (official placename)', that's fine, thanks. It's not "wiki rules" as much as it's tradition – it's just generally understood that, for large cities, the name is synonymous with the metropolitan region as it is with the city proper, so extra detail such as "Paris region" is usually considered extraneous. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 13:29, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, sorry, that's what I meant by 'rule' - it's a 'Wiki tradition' that seems to apply more to wikipedians than readers. We could have a huge debate over WP:Naming conventions (geographic names) (the French rarely say "Île-de-France"; the term most commonly used to refer to the region here is région Parisienne; most English-speaking people don't know what "Île-de-France" is), and moving it to 'Paris' could raise some hackles, too (namely those of whoever moved this article here in the first place) because administrative limitations are pretty clear-cut (and referred to) around here... but it's not really that much of a big deal, at least, to me, and I've got other fish to fry ; ) THEPROMENADER ✎ ✓ 14:10, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
