Promotional Advertising

As with the

North Wilkesboro article, it would appear that this article on Wilkesboro has been filled with blatantly promotional language and advertising, which is a violation of Wikipedia policy. The article (which was far more Wiki-standard until a few weeks ago) now features language such as "Wilkesboro is a Small Town Main Street community and has recently revitalized its historic downtown to include the Carolina West Wireless Community Commons, Wilkes Communications Pavilion, Heritage Square and Splash Pad. Cub Creek Park is adjacent to the downtown and contains many amenities to include baseball, walking trails, mountain biking trails, trout fishing, dog park, basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts, picnic shelters, etc." None of that is standard writing for an encyclopedia article. An editor may want to go through the article, trim such language, and restore the article to proper Wiki policy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2606:A000:1011:C156:E5EC:5858:AD63:186 (talk) 16:26, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply

As noted above, this entire article has clearly been rewritten into little more than a promotional advertising piece for the town of Wilkesboro. The editing history reveals that someone associated with the town has done most of the rewriting. Much of the standard statistics in the demographic section has been deleted, including the poverty statistics. I would suggest that an editor delete the promotional advertising and restore the article to a proper encyclopedia format. As it stands much of this article reads like a tourist brochure.

Deleting Sections?

Several entire paragraphs have recently been deleted from the article with no reason given. After checking, the paragraphs were accurate descriptive sections. For example, one section noted the geographic setting for the town, and while it wasn't cited, it was hardly inaccurate or debatable information (the Yadkin River does run through the town, US 421 is the major highway, etc.). The entire demographics section, which was cited, was deleted, and this section is standard in almost every Wikipedia article on other towns and cities. I thought deleting cited information without an explanation wasn't allowed on Wiki. Most of this information is included in similar articles on other towns and cities, so I don't know why it was deleted. I would suggest that such information be returned to the article, as it is already short and could use more of the type of information that is included in other articles on towns and cities.

2010 census figures

The 2010 census population number is an error. The correct 2010 population should read as 3413. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.118.212.57 (talk) 20:57, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I updated the infobox and lead. It will still need to have the demographics section updated. Thank you. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 16:14, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
