I'm reverting this article back to it's old glory, but I don't want the current info to be lost. I'm posting it here.

Zack (ザックス, Zakkusu) was a SOLDIER 1st Class from Gongaga. Though laid back and a flirt, Zack follows a moral code of loyalty to his friends, striving to protect people above all else, and fighting those who have no respect for life. While stationed in Midgar, he met and dated Aerith.[1] Five years prior to the start of the game, he is sent, along with Cloud, Sephiroth and some other soldiers, to investigate reports of monsters causing disruptions in the vicinity of the Mt. Nibel mako reactor. After Sephiroth's massacre of Nibelheim's villagers, Cloud and Zack are taken prisoner in the basement of the Shinra Mansion and used as test subjects for Hojo's Sephiroth "Clone" Project, an experiment designed to test Hojo's Jenova Reunion Theory by injecting subjects with Jenova cells.

However, after four years, Zack breaks out of his confinement and carries the incapacitated Cloud with him during their escape. Zack's ability to escape from his imprisonment is due to the fact that he — being an individual full of self-confidence, and, as a result, a strong will — was unencumbered by the potentially negative side-effects of mako treatment (known as "mako poisoning") and had handled the treatment before when being infused with mako as part of the procedure to become a member of SOLDIER.[2] He gives Cloud some of his clothes and gets them transport to Midgar, where he hopes to become a mercenary. However, before arriving in Midgar, they are ambushed by Shin-Ra soldiers. Zack is shot to death, while Cloud, too sick to move, is simply left to die on his own. Subsequently, Cloud takes Zack's persona — either due to his mako poisoning or a side-effect of the Jenova cells Hojo injected into him as part of the Sephiroth "Clone" Project — and Buster Sword. Zack essentially lives on in Cloud for much of the game, the latter having adopted many of his memories and character traits. After the events of Final Fantasy, Cloud planted the Buster Sword around where Zack died, serving as his friend's gravemarker.

Zack is a playable character in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, where more of his past may be revealed. He also appears in flashbacks and accompanies Aerith in Advent Children, in which he is voiced by Kenichi Suzumura in Japanese version and Rick Gomez in the English version.

Zack the Wolf

Should it be noted on this page that Zack seems personfified as a wolf in FF:AC? The wolf constantly appears in places, either with Cloud, or in areas important to Zack. He appeared in Clouds dreams, so it can't be a normal wolf, and I remember it being said he was Zack...should this be added? —The preceding

The wolf is a manifestation of Cloud's guilt, not Zack. This has been stated officially to be the case. The wolf appears in locations where Cloud's feelings of guilt are rooted; the gravemarker where Zack died, Aerith's church, and the place where he put Aerith to rest.

Crisis Core?!

Anyone mind redoing that section when the game comes stateside? I highly doubt that most of that info is true, and even if it was, it's too specific. A more condensed version would be nice. ChromeWulf ZX 02:12, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I edited the Crisis Core section yesterday for about an hour, cutting out unnecessary details and changing things that were poorly written. Out of Order

After reading and looking at the article, it has come to my attention that this article needs to be rewritten so that it wouldn't look like it's out-of-order. Suggestions? Objections? 71.57.74.109 (talk) 13:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Order isn't that important. Just check the other articles; they all explain their original role in FFVII, and then go to their other appearances. If anything, the article just needs to have the "Related Appearances" comply with the release dates of the games; it also helps the article keep a more 'out of universe' style. Fictional Biography

It said that working under Angeal, Zack eventually becomes a 2nd class SOLDIER. Actually he IS 2nd class and gets promoted to 1st class, so I changed that. However this is stated later in the article under "Related Final Fantasy VII Appearances". It seems redundant. Can I suggest either deleting "Fictional Biography" and having his information under the "Crisis Core" paragraph of "related appearances", or taking out the Crisis Core paragraph and making it his Fictional Biography since that really is his main story. I concur. The fictional biography explains things not said in the appearances section, but Zack never really had a background, except that short sentence. The difference with Aerith and Sephiroth and the like is that they have a past that would make the 'Appearances' section too long. Plus people keep coming and making it huge and explaining the entire game. Just delete it. The way things are now, with the exception of that bit, is because it's more 'out-of-universe', with things going in order of their release.WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 21:48, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Zack's Swords

It says that Zack's original weapon was a katana, and then a broadsword. But in Crisis Core, his original weapon was a one-handed broadsword, and then Angeal's Bustersword. I am changing it to state that. --

2. Appearances

I am not a full fledged gamer as i was as a young kid, but since I'm playing the game again, I'm trying to find active material for the game. Reading the second section '2. Appearances' of the Zack Fair wiki page, i noticed what appeared to be a flaw in the first paragraph. I don't have a source off the top of my head(other than multiple playthroughs of the game, including a somewhat perfect file)so feel free to refute whatever I say, but I dont recall Cloud ever fighting Sephiroth in Nibelheim when it was burned by Sephiroth. I recall seeing them face off in Jenovas chamber of the Mt. Nibel reactor, but they dont fight. Considering in the flashback, cloud is a measly level 6, with 100 hp, and equipped with none other than his handy buster sword and a preemptive materia, that he tells Sephiroth that'he cant wait to use'?...what a noob. Anyway, how did he beat Sephiroth? Not being picky, nitty, or a prick, i just want to know if im the one confused?

A sidenote, I thought Zack wasn't there in Nibelheim 5 Years ago, or in Cloud's original flashback story he wasn't, but it is cleared up later that Zack was there at the Mt Nibel reactor and fought Sephiroth instead of Cloud? Because Cloud did tell Zack's stories as if they were his own. Wasn't Cloud actually one of the flunky soildiers in the blue, specifically the one that was told to keep an eye on Tifa?

I changed "when" to "after," so as to clarify the actual time frame. Zack was in Nibelheim (though originally not to in Cloud's memories), not just at the Mt. Nibel reactor. He is the one who really fights Sephiroth, though Cloud does as well--he impales Sephiroth and they have a brief conflict, ending with Sephiroth tossed into the reactor core. In any case, it's still a fight, just not to the degree that Zack's battle was. And yes: Cloud, for the time he was in Nibelheim, was a flunky just accompanying Zack and Sephiroth. You're welcome :) In truth, Cloud didn't add much in terms of the actual battle. The main point of the scene was Cloud's response and getting Sephiroth into the reactor (the catalyst for several events, and an overall important part of Cloud's false memory). If we were talking about defeating Sephiroth without knocking him off the platform, Zack would have contributed more and came closer to actually defeating him. But, as this article's focus is on Zack as a character, there isn't a real need to expand on Cloud and Zack's individual roles. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 23:56, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Calm down. The image has nothing to do with the article. Cosplays are not popularity worldwide. They are cosplays. You also failed to tell me how is this relevant. Images are supposed to illustrate featured content from the article such like
Wikipedia:VPICS used to tell. It is related but that's an ambiguous reason. A lot of other stuff such as merchandising are also relevant. If websites' writers are homophobics then there is nothing we can do about it. Good luck with finding public domain "other stuff such as merchandising". (Even if you make the photo it will be deleted from Commons because of the subject.) It's not really they're homophobic, apparently their audience's rather interested in girls dressed as girls, preferably hot, and not guys or girls dressed as dudes and so this is what they provide. (I'm sure cosplay magazines are different but I don't read any.) --
