鑑 or 鑒 ?
According to the book Rediscovering Confucianism by the Swedish sinologist and philosopher Torbjörn Lodén, the title of this work is to be spelled 資治通鑑 in Chinese. Both the character 鑑 and the character 鑒 are simplified to 鉴, so the difference is subtle (actually just a matter of where you place the radical and different parts of the phoneticum), but which character is the original? Yenx 21:21, 7 November 2006 (UTC) Edit: The Wikisource article also uses the character 鑑. Yenx 21:25, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I think that are the same words, but the book in my home is 資治通鑒. and also, some books may say that the real name of "Zizhi Tongjian" is "Reflections for Reference of ruling". Should we use this name? --
- Both are variations of the same character, I think. Meanwhile, it is my opinion that since the meaning of Zizhi Tongjian is not completely unambiguous, the title should remain untranslated, although the implications can be explained in the article. --Nlu (talk) 05:19, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
I think that most Chinese speakers, in this context, understand 鑒 to mean "Reflections" rather than "Mirror". 16 December 2017 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.30.114.97 (talk) 16:12, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Professor Chaplin, @Nlu, Regarding the issue on the translation mentioned, I have added two inline citations (same but cited at different parts of the article) noting the figurative meaning of the word “mirror” (鉴). Diff here and here. Please review it and feel free to correct me if there is any mistake, thank you! -Colathewikian (talk) 10:37, 20 November 2020 (UTC)]
Category:Historiography by country vs. Category:Historiography of China vs. Category:Chinese history texts
Category:Chinese history texts is itself a category within Category:Historiography of China which is in turn a category within Category:Historiography by country which is in turn a category within Category:Historiography. — Robert Greer (talk) 20:17, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
