The 2018–19 NBB season is the 11th season of the
In this season fourteen teams will play each other during the regular season. At the end of the home and away matches round the top four teams qualify for the quarterfinals of the playoffs automatically, while the teams finishing in the 5th and 12th place will participate in the first round of the playoffs to determine the other four teams in the quarterfinals, in a five-match series. This season maintained the playoff method of best of 5 games, played on the 1-2-1-1 format, used since the 15/16 season.
For this season, the last regular season placed team is relegated to the 2020 Liga Ouro, the NBB second division. Only the Liga Ouro winner receives the right to contest NBB in the next season.
Broadcasting rights
For the first time since it's inception in 2009, the NBB will have 4 tv broadcasting partners along with live transmissions in the official competition pages in Facebook and Twitter. The week calendar generally goes like this:
Monday: 1 live game on Facebook
Tuesday: 1 or 2 live games on
Wednesday: 1 live game on Twitter
Thursday: 1 live game on Band Sports
Friday: 1 or 2 live games on
Saturday: 2 back-to-back live games on Band plus random transmissions on the other channels

Retirement
- On May 12, 2018, following Flamengo's elimination in the 2017–18 NBB season semifinals, Marcelinho Machadoretired from basketball after playing 22 seasons of basketball, 12 for Flamengo alone.
Along with teammates Marquinhos and Olivinha, Marcelinho is the biggest champion of NBB, reaching the league final on six different occasions. He has clinched the title in the
as well as winning the 2007–08 CBB title, the precursor of the current NBB. Marcelinho also have in his career both theCoaching changes
