CVUA

Hi Guðsþegn! I'm Electriccatfish2 and I will be your CVUA instructor. I would like you to please read

WP: VAND
and answer the following:

  1. Which anti-vandalism tool(s) would you like to learn how to use (STiki, Huggle, Igloo, Twinkle)?
  2. Which of the following advanced module(s) would you like to learn (Username policy, AFTv5, New Page Patrolling)?

Best, Electric Catfish 00:18, 10 August 2012 (UTC).

Thanks for agreeing to tutor me. I have read VAND. Regarding the AV tools, I have downloaded Huggle, but since I have yet to use any of them, I am open to suggestion. Which do you think is the best program (most versatile or most intuitive), given an internet connection at home that is less than stellar? Regarding advanced policies, I think I would like to learn both username policy and NPP. Thanks, Electric Catfish. I look forward to working/learning with you.
Guðsþegn
   18:23, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay. You will need rollback rights to use Huggle or Igloo, which you will most likely get at the end of the course. I can request STiki access for you before you get rollback rights, however. I personally only use STiki, but if you want, after the course, I can get you another instructor who will teach you Huggle and/or Igloo. Best, Electric Catfish 12:47, 12 August 2012 (UTC).
Great, let's go with Stiki now (Huggle or Igloo later). What's first?

I started using Stiki. It's pretty cool.

Hi! The goal of the CVUA is to train users how to fight vandalism. You're doing great; keep it up! As for Huggle and Igloo, I'll teach it to you after you get rollback. Best, Electric Catfish 00:19, 15 August 2012 (UTC).

Welcome to STiki !

Hello, Guðsþegn, and welcome to STiki! Thank you for your recent contributions using our tool. We at STiki hope you like using the tool and decide to continue using it in the future. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Here are some pages which are a little more fun:

  • The STiki leaderboard

  • Userboxes - Do not hesitate to wear the STiki label with pride by choosing from a selection of userboxes!

We hope you enjoy maintaining Wikipedia with STiki! If you have any questions, problems, or suggestions don't hesitate to drop a note over at the STiki talk page and we'll be more than happy to help. Again, welcome, and thanks! West.andrew.g (developer) and DBigXray 05:35, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

CVUA Test 1

  1. Please briefly describe what vandalism is.
  2. Am I allowed to get in an edit war while reverting vandalism?
  3. What should I do after I spot vandalism? (3 steps)
  4. Please list 3 ways how to spot vandalism.
  5. If an entire article is vandalism, what should you do?
  6. Is making test edits considered vandalism?

  1. Vandalism is intentionally editing Wikipedia (specifically article space) in an effort to degrade the reputation of the encyclopedia as an encyclopedia. checkY
  2. Edit wars are not allowed. ☒N You are allowed to get in an edit war while reverting vandalism or BLP violations.
  3. Revert the vandalism, warn the vandal, look for more vandalism by the vandal, report vandal to admin if necessary checkY checkY checkY
  4. Patrol recent changes, check your watchlist, check edit histories of suspicious edits, use STiki checkY checkY checkY
  5. Revert to a previous non-vandalized state of the article (manually if necessary), or if the article was created for vandalism then nominate it for speedy deletion checkY

Contest of the month
We currently have a remarkable lack of

Also this month, we are going to have have a challenge to create and improve some of our more important missing or low-quality articles. As biographies are often a bit easier, this month we are choosing two biographies:

DYK quality level
and ultimately selected for the DYK section of the main page.

Calendar
Thie coming month (mid-August through mid-September) includes feasts dedicated to the honor of

Exaltation of the Cross
.

Featured content and GA report
Since the last report, William de Chesney (sheriff), Knights of Columbus, and Angelus Silesius were promoted to GA level. Our thanks and congratulations to all those involved.

Wikimedia Foundation report

Wikinews is our sister site for developing news stories. Several events relating to Christianity, like the installation of bishops for instance, do not necessarily merit extensive coverage in wikipedia encyclopedic articles, but can and easily could be covered at greater length in a news article format. Given the number of significant news events that relate to religion, including claims of miracles, assignment of bishops and other religious leaders, church conferences, and other events, this site provides an excellent opportunity to provide in-depth coverage of current events at greater length than wikipedia.

One of our newer editors, User:David_FLXD, has recently gone through much of our content related to Methodism and assessed it. We are very grateful for his efforts, and that of all the editors who have had a role in developing that content. We have every reason to believe that this will make it significantly easier for the Methodism work group to create and develop content relevant to Methodism. To help that along, we certainly encourage everyone to do what they can to help David and the other Methodism editors to bring the content relevant to their tradition to the highest possible level of quality.

Your request for rollback

Hi Guðsþegn. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing
    Twinkle
    .
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of
    good faith edits
    .
  • Rollback should never be used to
    edit war
    .
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see

Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Invitation to comment at Monty Hall problem RfC

Because of your interest in dispute resolution,, I am inviting you to comment on the following RfC:

Talk:Monty Hall problem#Conditional or Simple solutions for the Monty Hall problem?

This dispute has been going on for over ten years and there have been over 1,300,000 words posted on the article talk page (by comparison, all of the Harry Potter books together total 1,084,170 words). Over the years the dispute has been through multiple noticeboards, mediators, and even the Arbitration Committee without resolving the conflict, so a lot of wisdom is needed here. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:46, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

I got that info from a pokémon book and took me two hours to rephrase. I am very hurt! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Evoogd20 (talkcontribs) 02:42, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

OK, it is unlikely for you to have taken two hours to do this edit that I reverted here. I reverted it because of the test/vandalism: (1) changing "first" to "fir.t", and (2) changing "</ref> The in-game Pokédex states that Unown can make telepathic" to "</pkeununmake telepathunic". I did not revert the edit for the sentence at the end. You seem to have easily overcome that part of the deletion here, and that is fine. Thank you for contributing. I am going to assume you were kidding when you said you were "very hurt". The warning I gave did not say you were a bad person. It is labelled "test/vandalism" because sometimes new users have difficulty editing, and end up producing some jibberish, or testing, as you did (along with your positive contribution). Please do not take it to heart. Just continue positively contributing. Thank you for that. --

Re Talokar

Dear sir Thanks, I am grateful for your change--I think i will later make some changes in this article, the section I had removed is quite honestly a mess both in terms of language/clarity and in terms of the various self-promotive listing of names etc that are given there by various people. As far as I could ascertain, these are a violation of various Wikipedia regulations and are neither verifiable nor true. I had in fact removed the section with the intent of rewriting the section -- however now what I shall do, is rewrite and leave a talk page note regarding the rationale behind the same. I hope that would be better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 39.54.235.250 (talk) 05:21, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I reverted your edit just because it appeared to be blanking a page, and there was no explanation given in the edit summary (and, let's be honest, being an edit from an unregistered user means it is more likely to be vandalism). From your response, you seem to be making good points, and I would not be against the same edit, but this time I would definitely put an edit summary explaining the edit, along with the talk page discussion you mentioned. Also, if you register as a user, it will make vandal fighters (like myself) take a second look before reverting. Thank you for caring about Wikipedia content. Happy editing. --

Dispute Resolution – Volunteer Survey Invite

Hello Thane. To follow up on

the first survey in April
, I am conducting a second survey to learn more about dispute resolution volunteers - their motivations for resolving disputes, the experiences they've had, and their ideas for the future. I would appreciate your thoughts. I hope that with the results of this survey, we will learn how to increase the amount of active, engaged volunteers, and further improve dispute resolution processes. The survey takes around five to ten minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist in analyzing the results of the survey. No personally identifiable information will be released.

Please click HERE to participate.
Many thanks in advance for your comments and thoughts.

You are receiving this invitation because you have either listed yourself as a volunteer at a dispute resolution forum, or are a member of a dispute resolution committee. For more information, please see the page that describes my fellowship work
