I've been making productive edits all day. Please explain: how did I trigger an edit filter? 2A01:4C8:49:B2A2:8453:DBFF:FE05:6E2F (talk) 15:37, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

The block was not necessary to prevent damage or disruption, since in every case of section blanking I gave an edit summary of why the blanking was consistent with WP guidelines and policy. I can't see a single edit in my edit history that could reasonably be called vandalism. Please take another look, thanks. 2A01:4C8:49:B2A2:8453:DBFF:FE05:6E2F (talk) 16:34, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You aren't blocked for vandalism, you are blocked for disruptive editing that triggered the edit filter, but you do not discuss that in this request. 331dot (talk) 20:11, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

My mobile IP address has changed, but I will of course respect the block if it's upheld.
I'm finding it difficult to respond, though I'm trying my best. The block log says "vandalism", so I assumed that this was why I was blocked. Can someone please, please explain to me what I did wrong? What was disruptive, for example, about my blanking multiple TV guide sections added by the same editor, with the explanatory edit summary

WP:NOTTVGUIDE? If I'm in breach of a policy for that, then I will stop immediately. 2A01:4C8:49:B2A2:D8D9:97FF:FE57:E2CC (talk) 20:49, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply

Accept reason:

Unblocking, I can only see constructive edits and policy compliant removals. 331dot, the user was indeed blocked for vandalism. Alexf, can you explain what made you label their edits as vandalism? Widr (talk) 20:58, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Widr Odd, I'd swear that I saw what I put in my comment above in the block log, but now it says "vandalism". Must have been confused. 331dot (talk) 21:05, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Widr: You asked about a vandalism block. It wasn't (if it says so, it is a mistake). What it was is a repeatedly triggering filters temporary block. If a user sees their edits do not go through. there is a time when you must ask yourself, why. Stop doing it, and investigate, or ask. You would think a user will figure after 3 or 4 tries that something is happening. He did not stop. He did 20 tries, at different times of the same day. -- Alexf(talk) 21:55, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Alexf: I'm still mystified. What do you mean by "their edits do not go through"? What should I have noticed? 2A01:4C8:49:B2A2:D8D9:97FF:FE57:E2CC (talk) 22:29, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alexf, that's incredibly poor explanation for such a bad block. Legitimate edits get caught by filters all the time, so you should never concentrate only on filter hits without looking at the actual context. The user clearly explained in the edit summaries why they removed certain content. The fact that you don't realize that you labeled your block as vandalism makes this even more bizarre. Widr (talk) 22:38, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Live and learn. I'll be more careful. -- Alexf(talk) 01:46, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
