Suggestions for deletion notifications
I have gotten a couple of notifications from BJBot for pages that my bot made minor edits on, such as disambiguating links. I would suggest that you exclude from the notification process (a) edits made by bots, and/or (b) edits marked as minor by the editor. Also, I have read all three of your bot approvals, and none of them seem to describe this function, so I agree with the last comment that it would be helpful to describe what the bot is doing on its user page. --Russ(talk) 16:18, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't leave message for any bots in the bot category. As for minor edits, pywikipedia has no method for checking the minor flag on edits.

Well, it has left messages on User talk:R'n'B for pages that, as far as I can tell, I have never edited through that account but have edited with User:RussBot (the bot's talk page redirects to mine, and the bot is flagged as a bot). --Russ(talk)
If I understand Russ correctly, this Bot is making unapproved edits. My view is that the Bot should therefore be shut down immediately. I am not familiar with the process for pressing for this and so invite suggestions as to the next steps. Colonel Warden (talk) 22:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
I didn't say that. I believe that the function has been approved, but BJ simply hasn't put a link to it on the bot's user page, which would be highly desirable. --Russ(talk) 20:56, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Someone replaced this correctly licensed image with one that had no fair use rational. I reverted that change, so this image is no longer orphaned. Astronaut (talk) 17:54, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Album Covers on Alex Tronic Records
Hi there,
the album cover images were deleted, they were used to show the discography of releases for Alex Tronic Records. They should have been linked to Alex Tronic Records page and not orphaned, apologies. Please can you undelete the discography of album covers? Thanks. Whodis7 (talk) 21:25, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Update: The Gallery has been restored and the images are now linked to the Alex Tronic Records page. Thanks! Whodis7 (talk) 14:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay
Thank you for the message.I will try to figure it out.

Question
Somehow a Wikipedian by the name of Jprdtalk has gone into my page home and screwed up the color skin and added a read line to words on Wikipedia.
Please view and add some advice.
Thanks
Electric Japan (talk) 12:48, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay. I figured out how he did this to my pages.
I have no idea how someone could be so sneaky and just do it with intent.
Jprdtalk is all I know who did it.
As U know that I am actively engage in editing Barelwi Movement Pages and When I Created a new Page on Sunni Tehreek a prominent Organization of Pakistan that also fought Election and won some seats ,A User MEZZOMEZZO has Placed Speedy Deletion Tag on it.Though I dont Oppose to add a tag on it but He has not Placed a message on My talkPage regarding it.This is Clearly Violation of Wiki policies.

tagging images with a speedy tag
If it is possible, you may want to have your bot check to see if there are certain tags already on an image before tagging it as orphaned. Edits like this seem kinda redundant. Get it? Redundant? ;) Rockfang (talk) 12:39, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned images

The image Image:1973 NY 347-25 Proposed Improvements-1-.jpg no longer qualifies as an orphan image, although some of the other problems with it aren't resolved. I would've put a "non-orphan" tag in it's place, but that only qualifies for free images. ----DanTD (talk) 13:14, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
The Avengers #48 image
Image:Avengers48.jpg is not orphaned. It's been the main image at Black Knight (Dane Whitman), with a FUR, for I don't know how long. This might be a serious glitch in the software, given how easy it is to detect whether an image in use. Just saying.
Thanks for alert, in any event. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:50, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Just saw someone had removed the image at Black Knight (Dane Whitman) for a few hours. Might be worth adjusting the software so it waits a while longer in such cases as well as vandalism, etc. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:59, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
user:jamiecg74
Can you help me out with three of my images please?
2 of them them had newspaper links with the copyright stuff added to it.
My own image was a photo of myself that a friend of mine took - there is no copyright other than my own.
Image:Al Norte Del Sur.jpg is not orphaned. It was briefly orphaned due to vandalism at the page where it's used. You might want to do something about this bot, since there's already a similar problem above. Thanks, Cloudz679 (talk) 19:20, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
User's reply
User: Political Dweeb here wants to let you know that I've already used Image:Shimpu.JPG on the Wikipedia page on Ishin Seito Shimpu. However when you explain that the page on this political party says that the Image:Shimpu.JPG needs to be "under a claim of fair use" I think you are saying Image:Shimpu.JPG is almost the same as the other two logos like Image:JN.JPG and Image:ISS.gif. Please let me know what it is about these two logos called Image:Shimpu.JPG and Image:JN.JPG you have put on my User talk page that makes them non free logos.--Political Dweeb (talk) 19:35, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Image deletion
Please delete Image:SmegService1.jpg - no longer required.
Please feel free to remove it as the article it was being used on has been merged with another so it's quite un-needed on Wikipedia now. Jammy (talk)

Image:Black widow film.jpg
The image that BJBot detected as no longer in use had simply been removed from its intended article by an act of vandalism, or similar. A previous version of the article has now been restored and the image is once again returned to gainful employment. Thanks. Brittle heaven (talk) 19:34, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
This image was in use by and linked to the WVQZ article within five minutes of being uploaded so I don't understand why over eighteen hours later that the bot would tag it as "orphaned" and prime for deletion. I see from other comments that this is far from the only false positive by this bot. - Dravecky (talk) 23:37, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Update: It appears some jackhole vandal had blanked the page when the bot came sniffing around. - Dravecky (talk) 23:44, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
hang on, ignore that. yes i uploaded two, the one c urrently in use in the article and that one which was a mistake. thanks for deleting it

I concur with the above message; the poster image for 30 Days of Night (film) was marked as an orphan, yet it is not. I checked the page history, and it has not been removed in the past. Please address this. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 20:03, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Malfunction
See [1].
This image is *completely* free, but was 'removed' by your bot (although it didn't actually remove anything?). Anyway, even though it's in userspace (as I'm working on it there), it's completely free and doesn't need to be removed. Please alter your bot to respect the licenses on the image page. Cheers! :) guiltyspark (talk) 02:22, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

What is your bot doing?
See [2]. It's removing text instead of images from talk pages-there's nothing wrong with text/title of a image on a talk page. Text is put there by another bot. Also see [3]. Tks. — Rlevse • Talk • 09:54, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey, nice boot! I didn't know one shouldn't have a gallery of the non-free image one uploaded. I'm editing my page accordingly now. Thanks!
PS.: I came here to report that it was also removing ":Image:whatever" text-only links too, but I see it's already been reported and fixed. So, thanks for the fix too. :-) -- alexgieg (talk) 13:25, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Suggestion to the Bot
Anyway the bot can be modified to add the : option to Image formatting on user sandbox pages in the process of being edited? --293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 00:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi, Your bot posted an orphaned fair use image on my talk page, Image:Xcode-helloworld.png however I think it should have been posted to another user's page as the other user has uploaded a different image since then. Perhaps the best approach might be to inform all users - I dont know... Thanks User A1 (talk) 13:12, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Non-free images can not be used outside of articles.
I see that you placed a notice on my user page regarding the images I uploaded of ficitional character Dana Sterling. Please note that I have no malicious intent - I upload them purely for informational purposes. I didn't think there was anything wrong with this - I have no expectations that I will be any financial benefit from this - it is purely for readers to see pictures of Dana.(Hyperionsteel (talk) 23:57, 11 May 2008 (UTC))

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Witch.jpg)
"Thanks for uploading Image:Witch.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media)."
but for other images, i think i uploaded years ago when i didn't know better. if they had to be deleted, be my guess. thank you. HoneyBee (talk) 09:17, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Political Dweeb's reply
This is user: Political Dweeb here with an explanation on the use of the United Unionists poster Image:Digest20042 hillc6.gif. I want to let you know that on My user talk page I was talking on a paragraph called "User's reasons" on what kinds of copyright tags I need to put on my image description page and how to put them on.
The reason is so I understand in order for my image on its image description page to be under what people call a "fair claim of use" or non free content. Please let me know if there is anything else to make my image description page suitible and please tell me how I should do it.
Political Dweeb (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.235.228.121 (talk) 20:51, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
The fair use rational for the image is good, it just needs to be used in the article. After you stick it in the article you can remove the tag (or the bot will do it for you).

User: Political Dweeb here has improved the image description page of the United Unionists poster. But I just wanted to ask BJBot when this image's description page needed improvements was it you who took it away from the article on the DUP or was it someone else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.235.228.121 (talk) 08:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the reminder about Image:MaratsadeDVDcover.jpg. After a discussion, the editors of the article for which it was intended agreed to use a different image. I forgot that I had left this hanging in limbo. I've submitted it for speedy deletion. CactusWriter (talk) 14:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Hello. I have a question about user notification. The image in the headline was mistakenly removed from an article, which caused it to be tagged as an orphan image by this bot. However, because only the initial uploader was notified on the talk page, the image got deleted. (It was later restored after I talked to the administrator.) Would it be possible to adjust the bot to notify all of the uploaders at the same time? Thanks --Kimse (talk) 03:12, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I had it notifying the top uploader before but other didn't like that as they just reverted vandalism of the image.
Talk
03:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I see. But how much can it bother them if the bot notifies all of the uploaders on their talk pages? It can even mention that it notifies every Wikipedian who uploaded or reverted such and such image. It could start with: Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Example.jpg. And if they're interested they should act on the tag or ignore it if they don't care. But if you already went through all of this and got overwhelming negative responses, then don't change it. Thanks --Kimse (talk) 05:06, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

How long is it orphaned before BJBot complains?
I had a non-free image with very clear Fair Use criteria (logo of an organization) get tagged by BJBot because the image had been removed by vandalism from the one article where it appears for about 25 hours. Is the timeout really that short? Seems like that could potentially create a lot of extra work for people having to check to see what the complaint was, etc...? --Jaysweet (talk) 14:10, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
This has been my intention to fix for quite a while, I'll get on it when I get back from my trip.
