Regarding Sri Vikrama Rajasingha's Portrait

Hello Blackknight12
This could be clearer but this is the Original portrait (or the exact appearance of the King),Thanks :) MediaJet talk 06:02, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Media Jet, the image you have uploaded (while being an important and historical one) seems to be a drawing or a painting. The original one is a more widely used portrait of the king and although it is unlikely to be a photograph it is the closest we have to an accurate image. Therefore that is why I reinserted it into the two main articles. Both images should be used throughout Wikipedia.
If you don't mind may I ask where you got the image from? Just wondering where this image is in Sri Lanka. :)--Blackknight12 (talk) 06:49, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Good Day to you Blackknight12 !!

Sorry for the late reply :(
No friend this is the first and most widely used painting of Sri Vikrama Rajasingha, and this could also be the official photographic painting of the King (I assume so).You can see this same photograph inside this building as well (a small black and white copy of the same) > Royal Palace Kandy and places like Queen's Hotel Kandy etc. This I extracted from the first Lithographic print of the Kandyan Convention.I published the full photograph (with the Convention) in a forum (much low res copy) but I cant trace it now,I have got the original with me,but Its at Home,I will show you soon Thank you :) MediaJet talk 08:56, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

As a bystander, I think it'd be good to explain to Jehankhan what he's doing wrong because I don't think the 3 edits he made were in bad faith. Simply reverting his edits may defer the guy to make constructive edits in the future. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 15:15, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Whooops.Sorry about that. I have done just a little editing in that project because I carry a lot of emotional baggage that starts bubbling to the surface when I try. Perhaps I will try again. Carptrash (talk) 15:33, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Bhuvanaika Bahu - One massa.png

Thanks for uploading File:Bhuvanaika Bahu - One massa.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

Ways to improve Parakkamabahu III of Dambadeniya

Hi, I'm Wakowako. Blackknight12, thanks for creating

Parakkamabahu III of Dambadeniya
!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This article has accuracy issues. One of the links mentioned that the subject ruled in 1287-1293 (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lkawgw/gen3000.html)

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on

the Teahouse
.

Hello Wakowako, thank you for your message. Yeah there are a lack of hard sources available over the internet on this topic so these articles are updated as more information is found on them. Also historical date seem to vary a little in this topic. So it shall be updated soon--Blackknight12 (talk) 02:43, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Coins

Thanks for arranging permission for that impressive collection of coin images.

Given the size, and the potential for subsequent re-use, I wanted to button up the permission statement more explicitly. You saw my email to the copyright holder, I hope he simply returns it.

I wrote it before I saw the subsequent email, where you had uploaded some specific items. I merged the two, and now both are referred to in ticket # 2013030310003121

We will need a permission statement on each coin, but you and I can handle this without involving Dr Ratnatunga.

I put a temporary template on the coins uploaded so far, this will make sure the deletion happy editors won't pounce on the images.

Once I get the returned permission, I'll add the final permission link.

If you upload more images we will also need the permission template on those images. I am not sure whether you can copy the permission template from one of the existing images or not. Please try, and if it works, fine, if it doesn't either drop me a note at my talk page, or make sure, if you send an email to permissions, to include 2013030310003121 in the subject line, so that the next agent will be able to see the permission statement.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 13:28, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

I saw your email just a few minutes ago so thank you very much for that update. I do intend to upload more images from the site so that is a good idea. Please keep me updated and thanks again.--Blackknight12 (talk) 13:36, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Glad to hear you will be doing more. I glanced around, nice work you are doing on Sri Lanken articles. Keep it up!--SPhilbrick(Talk) 13:43, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Tamil Muslims

The term 'Tamil Muslim' is an abstract term but more or less refers to those who are Muslims having Tamil lineage and traditions. The Sri Lankan Moors, like you said do not feature in your government statistics as Tamils, but the motive behind that agenda was highly suspected by the world community in the pre-war times.

The Sri Lankan Moors' traditions are composite and are entirely different from the Muslims of Arabian peninsula whom you relate them to with.Their culture and practices are closest only to those of the broader Muslim community living in Tamil Nadu, Kerala etc.

Their cuisine and food habits, architecture(mosques), funeral rites all are only identifible with Tamil Muslims, rather than any other Muslim community in the globe.

Arwi is a derived dialect from Tamil, common to some Muslims even in Tamil Nadu. There are many other such dialects in TN and Kerala, but a dialect does not mean they have a separate lineage as you claim them to be.If they came from Arabia then home come they speak only Tamil(including those who live in majority Sinhalese area).

It cannot be a meer co-incidence that the Muslims of Tamil Nadu in India and Sri Lanka share the same lingua franca, cuisine and more cultural habits. The only logical conclusion is that the first few Muslims in Sri Lanka indeed must have landed from Tamil Nadu for which we do have records as any Tamil Muslim family from Kayalpatnam-kilakarai belt would be able to testify. For ages, our ancestors have been trading along the coast of Sri Lanka right across the Batticaloa regions.

And last, Muslims are not a separate ethnic group nywhere in the world perhaps except for Sri Lankan census, everywhere else they have ethnic connections to a broader community.Even Myanmar accepts the Muslim Rohinyas to be descendants of Bengali origins. And same way Moors of Sri Lanka who share most of their culture with mainstream Tamil-speaking Muslims, it is fair to place them in the article. With this I hereby revert back your edit, with which if your unhappy may present your justification against it here.--

CuCl2
06:24, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

  • Firstly you should have started this discussion on the article's talk page and not here.
  • You seem to have missed the fact that there are more than just one Muslim group living in Sri Lanka and all of them either speak Sinhalese or Tamil. The group you are speaking of are Indian Moors, a completely different and separate ethnic group to the Sri Lankan Moors. Indian Moors are like the Indian Tamils of Sri Lanka they were brought to Sri Lanka from India for the same reasons as the Indian Tamils, as labourers to the plantations. see Indians in Sri Lanka and this.
  • Sri Lankan Moors do not have Tamil lineage, they are Arab descendants who have assimilated and now speak and share many similarities with the Sinhalese and Tamil people.
  • You have not given any evidence or reliable references to your POV therefore I will revert back to the good version, and if you want to continue this discussion do it on the talk page.--Blackknight12 (talk) 07:04, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

I have opened the discussion in the talk page as well as reverted back your edit to the previous version as it had been. You have neither answered any of my queries nor provided with evidence to oppose it.
Firstly realize we are not debating about from which country these Muslims have landed from.Whether Indian or Arabian , it makes no difference to this article.Tamil Muslim cult is distinct, and Sri Lankan Moors predominantly are more inclined towards it rather than an Arabian or Sinhalese cult(which does not exist as you claim).
Indian Tamils are just those whose origins are traced back to India, yes different from the local Sri Lankan Tamils of your island, but that does not mean they are not Tamils at all because they did not originate from your island like the latter.Same thing applies for the Moors who may.may not have an Arab descent but more or less have gained a Tamil 'lineage' by adopting their culture.
Its not like you can say the descendants of Indian Tamils are non-citizens of Sri lanka because their ancestors have come from a different country hundred years back.Same way its ridiculous if you associate Sri lnkan Moors with Arabs just because their disputed ancestry was supposed to be as such according to your version.
Many sources say, Arab influx was only restricted in small nos. perhaps to Beruwala and Mannar alone and it was the local conversions and Migration from South India in the 13th Century onward that led to a rapid growth to the Muslim populace here. Some others say Arabian traders married with local Tamil women and settled down their lives here.So of what context do you restrict SL Moors having Tamil lineage to only 'Indian Moors' that have no context here.
The above argument is anyway irrelevant to the topic, as Tamil Muslim is not discussing the ancestry of any community but rather their culture and fascia which are unique (from (sic) Arab or Malay) and are commonly practiced by Muslims across South India,Sri Lanka and Malaysia as well.
You cannot suggest your version to be the 'good' version, the older version has existed for a good long time here and its only fair that you change it to your 'good' version only if you can provide acceptable proof to justify doing so.--

If you fail to see that TamilNet is not a neutral source and is highly pro LTTE and highly anti Sri Lanka, I extremely doubt you should be editing on Wikipedia, let alone anywhere. I suggest you read Wikipedia's policies and guidelines and get to know them much better that you do now, and also what a credible and reliable source is. I would also suggest you read Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 64#Tamilnet (http://www.tamilnet.com). I highly doubt your claim that TamilNet is a credible Nationalist and Anthropological media source as viewed by the Anthropological Quarterly, let alone anywhere. You have not even given a source to back up your claim which any editor, serious enough in their work here on Wiki, would know to do as the burned of proof is on the claimer. Also just to clarify on your knowledge of history, Tamil Eelam is and was never was a state or political entity, it was only a proposed one by the LTTE. Tamil Eelam was never a part of Tamilakam, as Tamilakam existed only in India. You should know as you reverted well sourced information on the topic claiming vandalism.--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:49, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

TemplateData

Hey Blackknight12

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small

list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback
page.

Re:
Tamil Buddhism

Dear friend,

Due to a family emergency, I might not be able to access Wikipedia at least for a week or two. Therefore, I have decided to handover the facts that I have gathered so far.

  • Under Tamilnadu “Animangalam Copperplate” of Kulothunga chola notes that ‘Kasiba Thera’…”

As far as I have gathered it is also known as “Leiden Plates” [[1]] Here is the link to the Epigraphia Indica and the translations are given in pages from 267 .[[2]] However I couldn’t find a single reference to a ‘Kasiba Thera’. Pls verify again. (Pdf is poor quality. Sorry, this was the best I could find)

  • Nagas were not Tamils. Talk page Tamilakam.
  • Vallipuram script is not written in Tamil [[3]]
  • Thiriyaya script here. From Epigraphia Zeylanica [[4]] P151.

Again not a Tamil script. its Sanskrit ‘closely resembling pallava Grantha’. According to that the two merchant guilds were north Indian (Thapassu and Balluka). Correctly, as Lord Buddha was from north India. The two guilds mentioned in the reference by Meera Abraham are Manigramam and Ayyavole. [[5]] ??? Manipulated facts. But better to verify with the original article by Meera.

  • Kadiramalai - can't declare as a Tamil Buddhist site. It was a Sinhala site as well. most probably a multiethnic site [[6]] p 67
  • Peter Schalk is a poor source. He has publicly declared his political affliations. [[7]][[8]][[9]]

I may have missed things. So Pls go through the evidence again.

By the way I found this article too.

Heads of State of Ceylon and Sri Lanka

What is wrong with having the Ceylon and Sri Lanka template. Look at the Tanzania template. Mr Hall of England (talk) 17:06, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

The template is unnecessary. Heads of State is not an office used in either of the Sri Lankan eras. Nor is it an office used in any other country. Heads of State is the title of the function that is provided by the office of the
Template:TanzaniaPresidents. Exactly what you have done here. I would argue the same for the Tanzania template, and every other Heads of State template. Also it seems you have only been creating these Heads of State templates and articles for a specific number countries while ignoring others. I urge you to discuss before you make controversial edits and stay away from edit warring, which will be better for everyone. Thanks--Blackknight12 (talk

Provincial election templates

I don't think so - there isn't enough content to justify separate articles.--obi2canibetalk contr 14:02, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
There should be at least its own section on the election of each council separately, there is enough information on that, and redirect should suffice for the template for now.--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:10, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

These two discussions (

Hello Nishadhi,
I think that was expected when getting into an argument with CuCl2. It is an extreme waste of valuable time, but I don't think we can leave these articles based on wrong information. I usually run into this road block and the advice I normally get from an admin is Wikipedia:Third opinion, Wikipedia:Requests for comment or Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard, but maybe we can invite User:Joshua Jonathan as a neutral party as CuCl2 seems to have something against us, or at least me.--Blackknight12 (talk) 04:28, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Angampora

Hi Blackknight, you seem to be under the impression that I removed information from the angampora article without explanation. The truth is I didn't remove any information at all. Everything was simply reworded and re-arranged because, frankly, the article is full of grammar mistakes and was generally badly written. If you want, I am willing to justify and explain every change I made to the article. Morinae (talk) 14:35, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello Morinae, thank you for discussing instead of reverting first. However Ideally you should have written this in the articles talk page. I have undone your edit because there was large chunks of sources information removed without any explanation. I have to disagree with you that the article is full of grammar mistakes and was generally badly written because I don't think it is. I have worked with editor who wrote this article and he does not seem to have a problem with grammar. The article is also thoroughly researched and its content is well sourced there is really no need to change the content. Thanks--Blackknight12 (talk) 06:25, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
I beg to differ with you on that point; there is a real need to alter the writing of the content. I will not make any edits yet, but I hope we can continue this discussion on the talk page first. Morinae (talk) 17:39, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello again, my friend. Can we please discuss our edits on the talk page rather than simply reverting? That was the reason I did my edits one by one so you could point out specifically what it is you disagree with and I could either change it or explain my reasons to you. I am interested to know why you feel that particular image is "better" for the infobox. I will leave that photo where it is for now, but I will have to make two changes to your revision. First, as I have said in my edit summary, images should generally be placed on the right side, especially at the beginning of a paragraph. As you can see

here, this is because it makes it harder for readers to find the beginning of the text. If an image is on the left, it should really be after the first paragraph of a section. In such a short article as the one we are dealing with, this means we have less space for images. And perhaps more importantly, I will be changing the captions back to my previous version. I hope I won't have to argue about this because there is absolutely no way any objective reader or editor can say "Male and female combat" is a good caption. Morinae (talk

You added some unsourced content to the page Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, add sources to verify the information. You also removed an image of supreme court building from the page , it's unnecessary plz insert the image.Rameshnta909 (talk) 17:20, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Could you please specify what content you are talking about? The article is under construction it will be added soon.--Blackknight12 (talk) 07:57, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
I am referring to the 'table of current justices' you added to the article. If the page is under construction you can use 'under construction' tag. You have also deleted the 'supreme court of sri lanka building' image from the article for inserting the logo of the sup court. You should look into that too.Rameshnta909 (talk) 15:41, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Ethnic groups templates

I note that there are two navigation templates for the various Sri Lankan ethnic groups:

Template:Immigration to Sri Lanka. I think it would be better if we only had just one template, particularly as the former only has three entries. I've merged the two into one on my sandbox. What do you think?--obi2canibetalk contr
21:24, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Actually I think the current formation is best, it is much clearer, simpler and more organized. Also the Immigration to Sri Lanka template will expand in the future, which is also a whole topic on its own. More over we should keep in mind Moors, Indian Tamils, Malays, Burghers etc. are 4th, 5th, 6th... generations of immigrants to Sri Lanka, which comes under the scope of Immigration to Sri Lanka.--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:58, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
I'm afraid you are opening the native/immigrant genie by having two templates, classifying all Tamils in Sri Lanka as diaspora and removing Category:Ethnic groups in Sri Lanka from the Category:Sri Lankan Moors, Category:Indian Tamils of Sri Lanka‎, Category:Sri Lankan Malays, Category:Burgher people, Category:Colombo Chetties and Category:Bharatakula people.
Classifying a group as an ethnic group does not mean they are classified as native - have a look at
Template:Ethnic groups in Australia, Template:UK census ethnic groups, Template:Ethnic groups in Malaysia, Template:Ethnic groups in South Africa. All it means is that they have been identified as distinct ethnic group. All of the groups from whom you removed Category:Ethnic groups in Sri Lanka are classed as ethnic groups by the Sri Lankan government.--obi2canibetalk contr
12:52, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
There hasn't seem to be any conflict on it so far. And yes I would like to avoid it. I understand what ethnic group means, the reason I removed the cat was because all the article were already in or fell into a ...diaspora in Sri Lanka subcat. So essentially they are still in the Ethnic groups in Sri Lanka cat. The fact that they are classed as an ethnic groups by the Sri Lankan government doesnt exclude the fact that they are immigrant populations. Please parden that harsh sounding sentence, I am not a xenophobe or anything, just stating a fact. I can assure you all ethnic groups in Sri Lanka, with a wiki article, are categorized under Category:Ethnic groups in Sri Lanka or a subgroup within it.
I think this edit is fine, all it suggests is that the Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora are a part of Tamils of Sri Lanka.--Blackknight12 (talk) 13:45, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
I disagree with the differentiation between ethnic groups and immigrants - they are not mutually exclusive - and particularly the classification of Sri Lankan Tamils as immigrants but I am not going to pursue that matter.--obi2canibetalk contr 12:19, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
