- Hello Bwark,
- I am a bit lost in the Wikipedia editing business. I believe you wrote the original article on Harold Innis. Subsequently, a part was moved to its own page--The Cod Fisheries: The History of an International Industry. I am not sure whether it was you who wrote: "...the cod fished for centuries off the eastern coasts of North America, especially the Grand Banks of Newfoundland." We, at Distributed Proofreaders Canada, are currently in process of digitizing this book for upload to Faded Page. My concern is with the phrase singling out the Grand Bank Fishery. As I understand it, going through the book, Innis addresses all the east coast fisheries, but spends some fair amount of time on the fishery prosecuted by resident fishermen. That was the inshore fishery, and not the Grand Banks fishery. A minor point, perhaps.
- Regards,
- Kate Dagg

- Thanks very much for your kind note. While I was disappointed that my nomination was archived, I can appreciate your concern about lack of active reviewers. I would be grateful if you would resubmit the article on my behalf for FA review, unless of course, you feel it would put too much strain on the system. If so, I could wait for awhile before submitting it. I do genuinely feel that it meets FA standards. Bwark (talk) 12:53, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- I will resubmit it now, over a note from me; once again, my apologies for the premature archival and the slowness affecting all of FAC. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 12:57, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello there. Congratulations on working on Ursula Franklin to FA level!!! Featured articles don't need to go through the nomination process they just pop right on in. So it has been added directly onto the Portal:Canada as selected article Number 43. All articles rotate through randomly. To see the layout see...Portal:Canada/Selected article I can let you know the process of box portals if you wish to do so yourself at some time. Again good job. Images
Hi, I nominated File:Muriel Duckworth Coast cover.jpg, File:Tommy Douglas 1961.jpg, File:Savage5.jpg, File:Savage1.jpg, File:Joe Howe1.JPG, File:Angus l provincial liberal book.jpg, File:Percy Paris MLA.jpg, File:Otterville Train Station (final).jpg for deletion. Regards Hekerui (talk) 15:06, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- I have forwarded formal permission from the copyright holder for use of the Muriel Duckworth image to permissions-en. I have e-mailed evidence for the unrestricted status of the Tommy Douglas photo to permissions-en. My spouse, Laura Landon, took the Percy Paris photo. I will get her to send an e-mail to permissions-en when she comes home from work. This photo has been part of the Percy Paris Wikipedia entry for more than a year-and-a-half with no one questioning its copyright status. Why schedule it for deletion next week without at least asking me to explain its status? Your action shows a definite lack of courtesy. Most of the other photos are orphaned and should be deleted. I have spent hundreds of hours improving Wikipedia entries and have achieved featured article status for three of them: Harold Innis, Angus Lewis Macdonald and Ursula Franklin. I have never been found to be in violation of Wikipedia copyright policies and no copyright-holder has ever complained about my work. I find the ongoing harassment over the copyright for photos extremely discouraging, especially since I have never uploaded a photo without permission from the copyright holder. I also find Wikipedia copyright policies and the upload page needlessly confusing. Are contributors now required to get formal clearance from permissions-en before they upload an image for which they have permission from the copyright holder? Bwark (talk) 17:39, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- If you are upset that I nominated images for deletion, don't be. This is simply a matter of process, because images not taken by you need permission. Some of them lack them, but with proper permission these pictures are clear to be used for other language Wikipedia projects, too. This is just making sure everything's legal and there's no bad intent. You can comment on the deletion discussions I opened, where I provided a detailed rationale you can dispute, and nothing gets deleted just like that, but there is a timeline per Wikipedia guideline and you can of course respond, as you said you will, and as is outlined on the individual pages. Best wishes Hekerui (talk) 18:09, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Please don't tell me it's "simply a matter of process." I uploaded the Muriel Duckworth Coast image today and the Tommy Douglas photo yesterday. In both cases, I had already e-mailed permissions-en before you nominated these images for deletion. So what am I supposed to do? Permissions-en can be quite slow to reach a decision and in the meantime, a perfectly legal image is threatened with deletion. In future, please ask me about the status of an image you're nominating for deletion. In every case, we can resolve any apparent legal problems, because as I say, I never upload images without having permission from the copyright holder. Bwark (talk) 18:28, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't go through your history to check whether you are "legit", I looked at the images. And you photographed a billboard saying the photo of the advertisement is free to be used by anyone with only the restrictions of the free license you put on it. I contend that's not correct. I don't inquire into how you are related or how you know the people whose photos you upload, I just think that the issue of uploading pictures by others needs to be resolved well. A bookcover is not normally something released for free, possibly commercial use, because authors don't like their work being freely copied. In case of Template:OTRS pending to note a permission is pending. Administrators check every nomination for deletion, there is no automatic deletion, so there's no need to get upset. Hekerui (talk) 18:58, 16 September 2009 (UTC)]
- OK, I agree the book cover photo should be deleted because it is orphaned. I decided not to use it. The book publisher's agent had granted permission, then he retired. His replacement re-opened the issue, saying I would have to get formal permission from the copyright holder for the photo on the cover. So, I removed the book cover photo from the entry as I was having trouble getting that second permission and I decided the book cover photo wasn't worth all the trouble anyway. Had you notified me, I could have told you that and I would have realized that I should have asked for the book cover photo to be deleted myself. You are right about the Joe Howe photo which I took myself. I realize now that it is derivative. If you had raised the issue with me, I would have agreed to deletion. However, I am not a copyright lawyer. I'm a faithful Wikipedia contributor who tries to observe the rather arcane rules regarding copyright and Wikipedia's rather confusing policies. It's a learning process. In future therefore, please don't nominate my photos for deletion without notifying me first. I appreciate your advice on adding the template OTRS ticket pending. I'll follow that advice in future. Sorry, to seem out of sorts, but I feel you are not respecting the fact that Wikipedia works best when there is collaboration and consultation. Could you please let me know the OTRS ticket number you got in response to your mail, so I can check up on it with the OTRS people? Thanks, -- Fut.Perf. ☼ 08:19, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Fut. Perf. I received this message from Permissions with Ticket#2009091610049421: "I did look at the website in question, but it appears that based on <http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/notices/016-200-e.html#c> there still is a need for written permission to be obtained from the library when they hold the copyright." I then e-mailed the Library and Archives Canada people, but have heard nothing since. Thanks for the reminder. I'll phone them next week to follow up. Bwark (talk) 18:17, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

- Looks like you didn't look very carefully at my citations. Yes, there is one to the author's website. I'll replace that tomorrow when I get a chance. The page is a work in progress and will include several sections which I couldn't do all at once. I have been contributing to Wikipedia since 2007 and have several featured articles to my credit. Before you come down so hard with your tags you should check the editing record, which in my case, is exemplary. I'm experienced enough not to be bothered too much by your tags, but I fear they would be excessively discouraging to someone who is just a beginner. As I'm sure you know, creating articles from scratch is extremely stressful and difficult. Getting copyright clearance for the photo alone --- which I have done --- is a real hassle.
