Brief Story about Kasulu district (Tanzania): Kasulu is one of the five districts of Kigoma region (including two newly demarcated districts - Buhigwe and Uvinza), predominantly occupied by "Waha" ethnic group. As per United Republic of Tanzania, 2002 Population and Housing Census, Kasulu population is 628,677 (299,506 males and 329,171 females) with a total of 85,572 households; an average family size is 7.3; comprised of 90 villages in 30 wards. Kasulu district is currently hosting two refugee camps namely Mtabila (for Burundians – about 37,500 individuals) and Nyarugusu (for Congolese..Congo DRC - about 61,000 individuals) which are close to 9 wards with a total of 22 villages and 108,812 villagers (IRC/UNICEF Programme Document, 2011). Main economic activity is subsistence farming and small and medium scale businesses especially in Kasulu town. There are few "Wasukuma" ethnic group pastoralists coming in Kasulu with flocks of cattle in search of pastures who normally purchase pieces of land for settlements together with their cattle.
