WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 8

Newsletter • March / April 2016

This month:

Transclude article requests anywhere on Wikipedia

In the last issue of the WikiProject X Newsletter, I discussed the upcoming Wikipedia Requests system: a central database for outstanding work on Wikipedia. I am pleased to announce Wikipedia Requests is live! Its purpose is to supplement automatically generated lists, such as those from

.

Adding a request is as simple as filling out a form. Just go to the Add form to add your request. Adding sources will help ensure that your request is fulfilled more quickly. And when a request is fulfilled, simply click "mark as complete" and it will be removed from all the lists it's on. All at the click of a button! (If anyone is concerned, all actions are logged.)

With this new service is a template to transclude these requests: {{Wikipedia Requests}}. It's simple to use: add the template to a page, specifying article=, category=, or wikiproject=, and the list will be transcluded. For example, for requests having to do with all living people, just do {{Wikipedia Requests|category=Living people}}. Use these lists on WikiProjects but also for edit-a-thons where you want a convenient list of things to do on hand. Give it a shot!

Help us build our list!

The value of Wikipedia Requests comes from being a centralized database. The long work to migrating individual lists into this combined list is slowly underway. As of writing, we have 883 open tasks logged in Wikipedia Requests. We need your help building this list.

If you know of a list of missing articles, or of outstanding tasks for existing articles, that you would like to migrate to this new system, head on over to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Requests#Transition project and help out. Doing this will help put your list in front of more eyes—more than just your own WikiProject.

An open database means new tools

WikiProject X maintains a database that associates article talk pages (and draft talk pages) with WikiProjects. This database powers many of the reports that Reports bot generates. However, until very recently, this database was not made available to others who might find its data useful. It's only common sense to open up the database and let others build tools with it.

And indeed: Citation Hunt, the game to add citations to Wikipedia, now lets you filter by WikiProject, using the data from our database.

Are you a tool developer interested in using this? Here are some details: the database resides on Tool Labs with the name s52475__wpx_p. The table that associates WikiProjects with articles and drafts is called projectindex. Pages are stored by talk page title but in the future this should change. Have fun!

On the horizon
  • The work on the CollaborationKit extension continues. The extension will initially focus on reducing template and Lua bloat on WikiProjects (especially our WPX UI demonstration projects), and will from there create custom interfaces for creating and maintaining WikiProjects.
  • The WikiCite meeting will be in Berlin in May. The goal of the meeting is to figure out how to build a bibliographic database for use on the Wikimedia projects. This fits in quite nicely with WikiProject X's work: we want to make it easier for people to find things to work on, and with a powerful, open bibliographic database, we can build recommendations for sources. This feature was requested by the Wikipedia Library back in September, and this meeting is a major next step. We look forward to seeing what comes out of this meeting.

Until next time,

Speedy Deletion for Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC

I need more specific information about what I need to do to make this article acceptable. I have used citations, where available. Is the Ministry section too much? Do I need more verifiable data in history? This is my first article. I saw many other churches with less information, but I did notice they were historical landmarks. Does the church need to be a historical landmark to be included? I need help, please! Thepropheticscribe (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:24, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Thepropheticscribe to prove that the church is Notable you need to add information about it by writers and published in reputable publications that have no connection at all with the church. Mainstream news or magazines are usually a good place to look (but not press releases), academic journals and books are generally considered to be the best. The current "Ministry" section is unsourced and entirely promotional, take it out. Most church articles are based entirely on historical information, current activities are of no real interest unless they are discussed in the news at more than local level - frequently that means disasters, scandals or misdemeanors involving fires, choirboys or misappropriation of funds. Ordinary routine church events and activities are almost never newsworthy. Hope this helps. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 23:06, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Articles for creation: Personal Comfort

Dear Dodger67,

I am new to Wikipedia and have seen this posting declined because it sounds too advertorial. Do you have any suggestions that will help reduce the advertorial portion so this article can be properly posted?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Newbie suffering the software

Dear Roger, I saw your rejection of my article on Mónica Lavín and was surprised that the sources were not there as I inserted them last night. And now I cannot even find where to click to edit the thing again. Sigh. Does every single thing I say have to be cited? This is a condensation of the Wiki article on Lavín that is in Spanish, and my goal is to get it into English. so perhaps there's some simple way to just reference the Spanish Wikipedia page as a reference? Thanks for your trouble. Beannie1 Dorothy Potter Snyder (talk) 13:53, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

I have had a look at it all- and suggest VE could be the culprit- and commented on talk --ClemRutter (talk) 16:22, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks ClemRutter. Is the WMF still struggling to get that piece of junk working properly?!?! If VE was a commercial product it would have been trashed ages ago, but we're just volunteers so nobody cares about how much rubbish we have to tolerate. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:28, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Single Bullet Theory (metal band) review

Dodger67, I am responding to your edit. Curious, as I thought we indeed were in the AFC review process. If you are saying it was never in the review process, why did you remove that line from the top of the source data? Just looking to see what action either I need to take, or if I am awaiting another user's action before the article is deemed satisfactory and taken to "live" status. Thank you, Metalmez (talk) 20:31, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Metalmez, as you can see Single Bullet Theory (metal band) is already in article space, so it is "live". According to the page history you created it in article space at 15:13, 21 April 2016‎. Then User:Happy Attack Dog did a bunch of edits, then I came along to remove the AFC submission tag - which is by definition not relevant to articles that are already in mainspace. Then you did two more edits and User:JJC89 did a few more. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 01:35, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Dodger67, thank you for explaining. I do see and understand the page history. I had originally created the article in Draft:Single Bullet Theory (band), but there was already an article with that name, so I created a new article (with "metal band"), but the "Draft:" never showed up on the article title. Perhaps I did something wrong? From my understanding, those Drafts go through a review and then elevate to Mainspace (unsure who actually does this). Correct me if I'm wrong. I just don't want the article deleted/taken down because it never went through the proper channels. I appreciate your assistance explaining the ins and outs to me. If there is something I should do, please advise. Metalmez (talk) 11:54, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

My problem is that most of the information comes from common knowledge around the school so there are no actual references for that.

AfC St John Passion

Hi Roger, I saw your name with this decline and have a few general questions, on top of those asked already on User:Dgljr5121973's talk:

  • Could such a decline please have the version declined? (Because his sandbox contains already the next.)
  • Could you be precise about the "existing article", not St John Passion, but St John Passion structure?
  • I believe that AfC is for new material, I don't know what to think of this edit, beginning the sandbox with a copy/paste of the existing article.
  • I have several problems with the additions (too much, loss of references, inconsistent formatting) and seriously think that a third article should be created, such as St John Passion revisions, instead of loading the existing one which aims at explaining the general structure (to be expanded later) by repetitious details of four versions which differ only slightly.

Thank you for thinking about that. I am sure that a repetition with the other work (now in the sandbox) should be avoided. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:47, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi
copyright violation because editors who do this almost never provide an attribution statement as required, either in the edit summary or on the talk page. About the specific content issues I don't really have an opinion as I'm by no means a topic specialist on music. Thanks. Roger (Dodger67) (talk
) 10:34, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. In your review, you might have said St John Passion structure instead of St John Passion, because the former is the article that existed before and from which it was copied to the sandbox. Would YOU kindly tell the user about copying to a sandbox? (I know that, and you are more independent.) I seriously think that restoring the article to before the additions, and asking to have the additions in a separate article would straighten out many problems. It looks like he copied an older version and brought that back, with problems in referencing. You don't need any expertise in classical music to understand that problem ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:02, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Addition of the tourism marketing paragraph to the Cape Town wiki article

Dear Dodger,

Will you allow me to reinstate the paragraph on Cape Town Tourism to the Cape Town wiki page if I can provide more independent sources?

I am in no way affiliated with Cape Town Tourism myself. I do however feel that Cape Town Tourism - although registered as a PTY Ltd - plays a major role in Cape Town's tourism and as such should be mentioned.

Kind regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nam1979 (talkcontribs) 14:45, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi Dodger 67

I submitted an article about author Randall S. Peffer for review. I see a note from you saying that I must submit a web link with internet sources. I used Noodle Bib and MLA style for my footnotes, but I gather that the MLA format is insufficient when citing web sources on Wikipedia. Could you please send me an example of the correct format for citing web sources.

Thanks Seafarer 16 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seafarer16 (talkcontribs) 21:53, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi Seafarer16, most of the established academic citation styles were designed for printed journals or textbooks, they haven't fully embraced the web yet. The simplest way to incorporate the actual web link would be to simply replace the word "Web" in the cite with the url, then you don't need to reformat the entire reference. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:00, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing the page ! I erroneously thought that official documents from the European Commission, as the ones referenced in the first Draft would be be more meaningful than news articles!

I have now added 8 news articles/interviews from external, independent sources and resubmitted for review. A further session to sort all these references is probably needed; let me know, sorry but I don't have time right now --LucaPost (talk) 10:53, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi
reliable sources such as mainstream news or magazine articles that are not written and publishe by or on behalf of anyone who has a connection to the organization. That excludes blogs, forums or the organization's own website or publications. These sources must also discuss the organization in significant detail. Basically if it's never been in the news (not college news, real-world major statewide or national news) an article can never be accepted. Roger (Dodger67) (talk

Automated archiving of resource request

Presumably the bot is archiving your CQ Amateur Radio request because it's been more than 90 days since the thread was updated (although I don't immediately understand why it isn't also archiving Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request#Osvaldo Yero Montero and Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request/Archive_28#Australian metrication on those grounds). For what it's worth, I'll be traveling next week to a city whose library claims to have CQ: The Radio Amateurs’ Journal, which I think is the same thing. Time permitting, I plan to try to get what you need - whether a bot has archived the request or not. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:22, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Worldbruce, that would be great! Yes it is the same magazine - it's their slogan/tagline. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:01, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Please complete the review of this draft, presumably by declining it. You had put it on hold pending a deletion discussion of ITDM, which is the same organization. ITDM was deleted as per the deletion discussion. Now I think that we can agree that the draft that you had put on hold can go back to its author as failing notability, to give the author a chance to find more references. (The organization may not be notable, in which case it won't have more references, but at least your review is now complete.) Robert McClenon (talk) 15:50, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Dodger67 Thank you for you assistance. Go Dodgers! My brother Jonathan Beck played for UCLA and the Dodger Rookies. I would like you to add for me "oil spill freeze salvage" to the main Wikipedia Oil Spill article under "Clean up and recovery" heading and solidifying subset.

I would like So the Wikipedia "Oil Spill" article to read something like,

"There are two classes of oil spill solidifying agents, i.e. temporary and permanent oil solidifying agents. The temporary solidification method uses dispersal of a population of tiny, (less than 3/8 inch diameter) dry ice (specific gravity of 1.4) pellets that float on water (specific gravity 1.0) because of sublimating CO2 gas, but sink into floating oil (specific gravity less than 1.0 ) to efficiently remove heat, volatile organic carbon (VOC) odor and temporarily solidify oil by heat extraction for ease of removal and salvage."

Housejoy Article

Hi, i've seen you have nominated my article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Housejoy"" for deletion on the grounds of notability and multiple refusals. Can you please define notability in your terms, since i've seen wiki articles with rather lesser citations or notability getting approved. I would request you to review and check the authority of the citations provided. The company has been funded by Amazon and ever since has been one of the biggest players in the home servicing market in India. Here are a number of notable mentions of the company in some of the biggest dailies and media houses of India (apart from the relevant citations supplied):

I have kept my article short and have provided relevant links to justify the information provided. I can provide hundreds and thousands of references to the article, but I've tried keeping it crisp with notable mentions (which are NOT PR EXERCISES). I have been creating and editing wiki articles since a very long time from various accounts, but this is the very first time i've seen editors failing to provide a proper justification for rejecting an article. I think the unapprovals are biased and are ONLY DEPENDENT ON THE REVIEW HISTORY. Care to read the article and the citations offered? would be of great help!

If you still think the company isn't noteworthy or the article needs deletion, then hopefully you should also consider the deletion of following articles which in my opinion aren't as good as the article in question. :

Re: Ruth Wolff "stub" Proposal

Dear Roger (Dodger67):

After almost a year of unsuccessfully attempting to convert my mid-twentieth century mind-set into something capable of mastering the language and technique for formatting (footnoting?) my 8 July 2015 Ruth Wolff proposal, I have reached the sad conclusion that I am more of a hindrance than a help toward achieving this goal.

On 20 February 2016, I suggested that perhaps, in collaboration with a more internet-savvy -- possibly somewhat less superannuated -- Wikipedian, a "stub" might be created to which I might more confidently be able to contribute documentation without fear of cancelling out all previous efforts.

Since then I have gone well beyond the customary internet searches to peruse the individual published plays as well as the two-volume collection and to visit Wolff's archive at the Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts in NYC. While there, I was permitted to examine original manuscripts, reviews and press clippings as well as monitor a live-taped performance of the 2003 New York revival of EMPRESS OF CHINA. I have also viewed the recently released DVD of the Warner Bros. film of THE ABDICATION and searched foreign sites for stage productions abroad including Italy, the Netherlands, England, Canada and Australia. As a result, I have accumulated numerous specific references to reinforce all aspect of the original proposal. For example:

THE ABDICATION play and film: Ford, Elizabeth A. and Deborah C. Mitchell. Royal Portraits in Hollywood. University Press of Kentucky, 2009, pp. 23-33

ESSAYS: "Innocents Abroad" New York Times, 1 May 1988, Sunday Travel Section, p.43 "We Open in Florence" New York Times Magazine, 4 December 1977, p.50, etc.

The above are just a sampling of the references that I might be able to supply to someone capable of formatting a "stub." Should there be someone out there willing to partner with me to complement my technical shortcomings, perhaps, at long last, a long-overdue entry to replace "containing Ruth Wolff" might finally be achieved.

Many thanks in advance for any further thoughts or insights you might have. Please know that I am appreciative of all you have done over the past months to guide and advance this proposal.

In gratitude,

I strongly reccomend that we withdraw this draft from the AFC process because the AFC workflow is really not suited to the way you propose working on this article. I have time over the next weeks to assist you quite intensively to get this article done (if we even need that long). We can also rope in some assistance from WikiProject Psychology as and when needed. If you think my proposal is a good one just let me know and I will do what's needed to clear it out of AFC. Please disregard previous request regarding the formatting. I was able to correct the problem myself.Carrieruggieri (talk) 15:31, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi
Referencing for beginners guide. Secondly you have not mentioned in what country is it made and broadcast and what broadcaster(s) and channel(s) show it? That is essential basic information. The article Teletubbies is a reasonable example to follow for the structure of the article, though we don't expect new articles to be as long and comprehensive as that one. Roger (Dodger67) (talk

Hi, i am new to wikipedia, i wanted to add a page about a company which was established a few years back. I heard about the company a few months back on my visit to Chandigarh IT park. I visited their office and i felt good about the startup culture being penetrating in India. And then I thought it should be on wikipedia. Could you please let me know about the improvements to be made, so that it will not get declined again?

Ballistic Advantage page

Hello Dodger67, I'm having a little trouble after several tries. I think I write pretty well but the encyclopedia type wording has got me a little frustrated. I added some dates and tried to remove our company name where I thought it was to much. I feel like my sources are pretty broad and respectable like "guns and ammo" etc... Is my rejection just on my non encyclopedia type wording? and do you have any other suggestions that might help? I do feel strongly that my company is worth listing due to the many improvements mainly the Hanson barrel has brought to the AR-15 market.

I really appreciate you input thanks

review on draft:AGA

Dear Dodge67,

Thank you for your review. Next time I will be more aware and i noted the errors. I also had the privilege of working with a local wikipedia volunteer. I have added more secondary sources and referenced them at most places where they were fitting to substantiate the primary source. I would appreciate your feedback if I met the standard now. I really struggled to find some secondary sources on certain topics and so either cut the information or referenced the original charters and regulations as this is what this African Union organ is based on. I was told in the online chat with volunteers that charters are also considered primary sources. Which I am struggling with because this is an offically mandated organ of the African Union and is based on clear sets of rules signed by up to 20 member states and thus notable. This is proven by the charters themselves. Hence I hope that this supports the argument. The AGA platform is no different to the European Union structures that exist and officially sanctioned by state parties. I look forward to your input and thank you for taking your time to look at my first article. Haukezie--Hauke-zie (talk) 12:00, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Rules to Give By

Hi there,

A couple of years ago I helped to write a report called Rules to Give By which contained an interesting index on the legal infrastructure for philanthropy. I recently stumbled across a draft Wikipedia page for it which I believe (I am pretty new to Wikipedia) you declined https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Rules_to_Give_By_Index

Firstly, I do agree with all of your objections. The lack of external links was problematic. I have inserted a few. Also, though a contributor to the report, I also thought including some criticism was worthwhile. Finally, I have added a little more detail about the methodology and the findings.

Do you think that this solves the issues?

Best,

The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps

Your tag for speedy deletion was acted on before it could be contested.

Every currently active competitive junior drum and bugle corps in the U.S. and Canada is and has been included in the Wikipedia. After the activity was devastated by the economic crash of 2007-08, the mere existence of any new Drum corps is, in and of itself, notable to the hundreds of thousands of attendees at drum corps competitions.

Is there some reason you targeted this particular corps and none of the many others? GWFrog (talk) 15:51, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

It's on my watchlist because I previously reviewed it at AFC. You put it into mainspace while it still had not even one

09:44:19, 7 March 2016 review of submission by 85.96.239.144

Dear Editor, We believe "metabolic surgery" should be added to Wikipedia as a separate item because "metabolic surgery" is clearly distinct from " bariatric surgery" for the following reasons: A. The objectives of "metabolic surgery" and "bariatric surgery"are different from each other.

The term "metabolic surgery" indicates a surgical approach whose primary objective is the control of metabolic alterations and hyperglycemia related with type 2 diabetes in contrast to "bariatric surgery," which provides weight-loss as the primary objective1.

B. "The patients who undergo metabolic surgery" is different from the patients who undergo bariatric surgery.

Choosing surgery to treat metabolic disease or diabetes without aiming weight loss makes a difference in defining the characteristics of surgical candidates1.

The metabolic surgery candidates are much older, there are more male patients and they have severe diabetes, metabolic syndrome and potential for cardiovascular disease2. BMI does not predict diabetes remission or glycemic control.

Ileal interposition which is a type of metabolic surgery was used effectively in controlling type 2 diabetes mellitus in clinical trials for nonobese populations with BMI less than 30 kg/m2 and 35 kg/m2 populations4-5.

Recent research6 including other types of surgery as Roux-en-Y gastric-bypass and biliopancreatic diversion has shown patients with a BMI 30 kg/m2 benefited from metabolic surgery in terms of diabetes control similarly to patients with BMI between 30 - 35 kg/m2.

C. "The expected outcomes of metabolic surgery" are different from bariatric surgery. Metabolic surgery is a new clinical pathway. The separation of metabolic surgery from bariatric surgery changes the clinical practice in terms of patient expectations and specific outcome measures2. International Diabetes Federation (IDF) stated that success of metabolic surgery interventions should be evaluated by the achievement of diabetes-spesific goals as remission of the diabetes state or improvement of the metabolic state.7

D. There are some "novel operations for metabolic surgery" . While most bariatric surgery techniques are being used to treat diabetes as well , several novel procedures specifically aimed to treat diabetes are already being developed which are not necessarily causing weight loss.

Laparoscopic ileal interposition is a novel type of metabolic surgery which was used effectively in controlling type 2 diabetes mellitus in clinical trials for nonobese populations with BMI less than 30 kg/m2 and 35 mg/m2 populations4-5.

E. "The rationale for public awareness about metabolic surgery" is different from bariatric surgery.

Using surgery to treat diabetes is a revolutionary concept8. With the name changing as metabolic surgery, public perceptions about diabetes treatment options may change too.

Obesity is currently considered as a life-style problem but diabetes is accepted as a chronic and deadly disease. The change in name as metabolic surgery might encourage patients to seek gastrointestinal metabolic surgery as a treatment option2. Otherwise the patient may never consider the fact that surgery may reverse diabetes and related metabolic disorders.

An integrated and multidisciplinary approach to metabolic surgery involving endocrinologists, surgeons and general public awareness is necessary for the benefit of the type 2 diabetes patient.

Esteemed Sir, I am a native of Odisha state in India. I have been editing a book regarding various aspects of Odisha. The book named 'Odisha Reference Yearbook' published by BK Publications Pvt. Ltd. Bhubaneswar, Odisha. I have mentioned about the sent topic in the issue. Being a permanent resident and native Odia i feel the age-old institutions called 'Bhagabata Tungi' has lost its existence due to invasion of modern life style. However, such institutions have powerful influencing quality for the society. Such institutions help build a disciplined and ethical Odia society. SO in the larger interest of my state i penned down my feelings on it. I did not resort to any references as it was not necessary. It is my original creation and hope you will be judicious enough to include my personal views on a dying social organisation in this part of the world. Article on Arter

Hi Dodger67

I edited the article for Arter by putting extra references. Could you please review it and let me know if there is any additional info I should write?

Thanks, chorasophiaChorasophia (talk) 11:44, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi Chorasophia, I see you've added many references, but there is one thing you can do while waiting for the next review, the list of exhibitions is in reversed order, please sort them into correct chronological order - oldest-to-recent. You could also trim the list down to only those that received substantial press coverage - and then reference the critics' articles. You can also get more specialist advice from WT:WikiProject Visual arts. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:08, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello Dodger thanks for the prompt reply. I'll do the chronological order as you suggested. I also wanted to ask about creating the actual Arter article because articles with the same name already exist. When I search Arter on wikipedia I'm directed to a page for Arter as surname. If you could help out it would be great. chorasophia Chorasophia (talk) 12:21, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi again Chorasophia, don't worry about the article title, the reviewer who accepts the draft will see to the correct WP:Disambiguation. The article will probably end up at "Arter (gallery)" or something similar, and it will be added to the list at Arter so that readers can find it easily. Hi again JeffreyWalkowiak, I took a look at what you did while I was sleeping then I fixed up a few errors. In the last section where you mention publications such as the New York Times, Architechtural Digest and others, try to add at least one reference to each mention. There are also a few instances of promotional language that should be fixed. Words such as "distinct", "unique", "dynamic", etc cannot be used in Wikipedia's voice - all such evaluative language must be sourced - who called it "unique" or "dynamic"? The rule-of-thumb is that adjectives need sources or must be removed. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:55, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

I am seeking assistance with references. I know I am unfamiliar with the wikipedia formatting, and I am working on that.

However, the feedback also says the sources are not "reliable". I have two scholarly sources. Wendy Burton 22:27, 18 June 2016 (UTC)I also have several references to publications to do with reviews and comments from critics to do with Lion's productions. These are not entertainment magazines; they are reputable theatre publications. I do not understand why these are not considered reliable.

Hi

I am adding the required information. I have read the Citation for Beginners, and used the Citation template. Doing so has lead me to more format errors, which I am correcting. I am concerned about the statement the references are unreliable. Are they unreliable because I have not added the required information, or is there a bigger problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wendyeb (talkcontribs) 05:48, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

I know you must be busy, so if this request is off-base, please let me know. Can you have a look at my Eugene Lion entry and tell me if it is improving? I don't want to re-submit it if I am still way off. The references to mentions in theatre reviews are mostly unsigned, and no page number was given (they are clippings). I will continue to work on finding the complete references, but I am still concerned that there may be a larger problem with the kinds of references I am using. Draft acceptance

can only an admin accept articles? (just curiosity i dont want to do) VarunFEB2003 TalkContribsGuestbook 06:54, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi VarunFEB2003 The requirements to be a reviewer are set out at WP:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants#Notice to prospective Articles for Creation reviewers. You also need to be able to help new editors understand how Wikipedia works, so get some experience at the Teahouse and other help venues is very useful. Reliable Sources

Dear Dodger67,

Did not see a field for submitting "reliable sources" for the article on Cathy Luciano Harasta. Where are they to be submitted?

Niklas Walentin violinist, declined due to missing references 20:30 25th of June

Hi Dodger67

My draft Niklas Walentin violinist has just been declined, but I have put in two references. What can I do to get my draft accepted ?

Feedback for Wendyeb

Hello, Dodger67. I was recently going through and welcoming new users. Wendyeb, whose

AfC you recently reviewed, left a message on my talk page asking for feedback. (I'd left the {{first article}} template on her talk page.) I gave her some feedback and was wondering if you would like to weigh in over there, perhaps with some more specifics about how to fix her article. I know you asked for more specific references. Perhaps you could clarify that some. -- Gestrid (talk

Hi Gestrid, thanks for the feedback, I'll go take a look shortly. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:37, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Greetings and thanks for reviewing the submission. The article consists of 4 sentences all of which are entirely fact based and sourced. Can you please identify which sentence(s) make this article feel like an advertisement? Thanks you. Xcf1456 (talk) 19:25, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Request on 16:11:18, 29 June 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by 4eyedraven

Hello Dodger67, I am attempting to address a query which may arise if a tourist wants to know what the world's oldest pub is? I don't understand why this query can be unlikely? Even if it is unlikely, why should it not be allowed? Please reconsider your review. Regards, 4eyedraven

DTI Global

Hi, Dodger67,

I have submitted this multiple times, and the only reason it got denied was because I needed better references, not because it was biased. I do not know where you found bias, but I am happy to take it out if you will tell me which parts you find bias.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hannah Intern (talkcontribs) 17:23, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Lotus Press

I'm writing you in response to the decline Lotus Press by Naomi Long Madgett. I just started this as a draft and perhaps I did the wrong thing.

What is this WP:Independant|Independant for? She is very prominent and has been a publisher in literary world since 1972 in Detroit. Google Search her she is Detroit Poet Laureate http://www.ncte.org/magazine/archives/106995 she's really amazing and I feel she deserves to have a Wikipedia page for her Lotus Press because broadside press has one and they just merged which is really notable and historic.

I'm still working on it make it better, thank-you for the suggestions they are appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThatChickOverThere (talkcontribs) 22:36, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

03:39:23, 29 June 2016 review of submission by Nihon-no-budo

I have updated the article with two third-party sources, a martial arts journal that covered an exhibition by this school of swordsmanship in Tokyo and a newspaper article that covered a visit to New Jersey by the system's headmaster. I hope these two sources are sufficient. I also updated a couple of sources with the appropriate headings, I noticed that a couple of the titles had errors. Please advise as to anything else I can do to make sure this article is approved for submission. It is a rare system but still note worthy to the development and history of Japanese martial arts.

Thank you for your consideration.

By the way, I noticed that the parent school to this system hardly had any verifiable sources (below is the link). Could you please tell me what makes their article different than mine? Why is mine being held to a different standard when it has verifiable sources in English unlike theirs?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenshinsho_Jigen_Ryu

Sorry for all the questions, but I am quite new to all this. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Nihon-no-budo, I'm glad you found a few more good sources. About the Tenshinsho Jigen Ryu article, the fact that it has no sources in English is of no significance at all as the policy here is to accept reliable sources in any language. I see it was created in 2010 and the last significant edits were in 2014, so it may well be due for a revision. The standards for articles are constantly evolving, what was accepted years ago might not be good enough today. If you need more specific advice about your draft or the other article I recommend you ask at WP:WikiProject Martial arts, that's where you'll find the topic specialists. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:48, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Hi Dodger67, Thank you so much for your quick response and suggestions. I've connected with a few people at WP:WikiProject Martial arts and they have been a big help. I hope that my next try will go a bit better. Nihon-no-budo (talk) 19:00, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
He was in contact with me (I wanted to see what discussion if any you had with Nihon about the reversion to draft). I gave a few suggestions about how to show notability and breadth of references and I think he has met the requirements. That was why I did not have any issues with his moving to Draft (something I have seen many others do after being declined without issue). I am surprised that it was moved back. For the martial arts project the most important consideration for schools of martial arts is breadth of distribution and frankly age. As I understand it this one goes back about 50 years even though the current name is more recent. Out of habit/choice I stay away from the AfC process - usually coming in after the article gets to article space.Peter Rehse (talk) 22:56, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

This is a table and the content is self-explanatory. It is like a table of movie appearances or stage appearances and should just follow those on the page.

Hi

00:10:00, 5 July 2016 review of submission by Vemile18

How would I cite bio information received directly from the source herself?

Hi User:Vemile18 you can't use any information given to you by the subject, only published sources can be used - see WP:Verifiability.
It is far easier to write an article about a subject you know nothing about, actually talking to your subject is almost a guarateed way to fail. If you write about someone or something you've never heard of before it forces you to use only the sources you can find. Most of the articles I've started are like that, I knew nothing about the subject before I started. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:33, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
