I just reversted your changes in Atacama desert. The subject has been widely discussed in the talk page, including why references as the ones provided by you are not relevant (in such extreme conditions, pluviometric measurements are not appropriate and it's necessary to rely on geological considerations). As I extensively explained in the talk (and as it's also explained in the references I posted), the hyperaridity in the McMurdo dry valley obeys to katabatic winds and is, therefore, a extremely local phenomenon. Depending on the level of exposure, a given point may not see precipitation in millions of years, while a less exposed place just 100 meters away may indeed see some precipitation. It's hard to imagine from a convetional perspective and even harder to measure with pluviometric stations.
