@Pickersgill-Cunliffe thanks so much to you and the coordinators going through the backlog of work here. I am more than happy to assist in the next backlog drive. If the coordinators are still short, I’m happy to do a bunch of barnstars as well to anyone missing them. Cheers MaxnaCarta (talk) 21:25, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
I just finished up the current drive, so there's nothing left to do there. Feel free to volunteer when people start to make noise about the next one though! Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 21:48, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

BorgQueen (talk) 00:02, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

There are problems.
  • Under the legal cases section you have "Regina v White [1996] NSWSC 1806". Looking at the list of June cases you'll notice that the volume numbers (or whatever they are) seem to be all only 3 digits, not like "1806". And in that list there is not "Regina v White". Then the given link to the document [1] does not work, giving a 404.
Got any idea where the document is now?
  • And I was looking for that because of "Hidden J found White had killed Ruiz in a fit of passion." Now "Hidden J" might be a great name for a rap artist, but... huh?
  • nit: Under #Trial_and_conviction, you have "The prosecutor produced ..." which is a while-the-trial-is-happening fact, followed by "White elected to have a judge only trial" which is a how-the-trial-was-conducted fact. I'd think "White elected" would be better moved upward as the second sentence of the paragraph.
  • nit: I think now "... secretions which father on a finger's unique ridges..." should have been 'gather'?
  • nit: "White found to be living" s.b. "White was found to be living"
Shenme (talk) 03:59, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
Hey thanks, I can take a look. The reason for the different numbering is that this is an unreported decision. It was never catalogued by a law report and so doesn’t show up anywhere except the database of the NSW Supreme Court. It is particularly important when researching to look well beyond Austlii as that is merely a research database run by volunteers from the University of NSW. I had to visit the Supreme Court library in person to view the record with the help of a librarian. Purchasing the case was not practicable as it had to be ordered specially and I wasn’t prepared to pay the $180 in fees for the three decisions. Hidden J is Justice Hidden. I may consider changing it to Justice Hidden for readability but initially I used Hidden J as that is how we refer to jurists in Australia per the Australian guide to legal citation. Thanks for the feedback! MaxnaCarta (talk) 08:34, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
To be clear: you're referring to a specific jurist whose surname is "Hidden" ? DS (talk) 18:22, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
And I have written a (very short introductory) article on Peter Hidden. DS (talk) 19:07, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
@DragonflySixtyseven nice work. That's the judge. Good one on creating an entry for them. MaxnaCarta (talk) 01:08, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
@Shenme:, forgot to ping you 08:45, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi, MaxnaCarta!

English-language sources are scarce, but there are Russian books and online sources to establish notability.

1. 1 paragraph (~700 characters, ~100 words) about the film in the book The splendour and misery of Russian television [2]

2. At least one or maybe a few paragraphs in the book A recent history of national cinema [3]

3. Another reference, unfortunately brief, to the film is made by Dmitry Bykov, but he is a major writer and this is the preface to a book, which is a collection of screenplays by the filmmakers of Gongofer. [4] or here [5]

There are many reviews or movie catalogues' mentions, too, but they all surely may contain unnotable, by Wiki standards, movies, too.

As for Golden Aries, this film award no longer exists. It existed in 1992-2006 as one of the awards of the Kinotavr festival, which is still held today. It wasn't the most prestigious one in Russian cinematography, but it is not unknown. Medium level, I'd say. --Saul McGill (talk) 00:14, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

Please edit the draft and bring include these @Saul McGill. This will prevent it from being nominated for deletion. I am a new page reviewer in addition to AFC reviewer, and as it stands I would not mark the page as reviewed. Until I reach that threshold, I won't move the article to main and leave it for others to fix. Let's make it the best it can be before we move to main. Cheers MaxnaCarta (talk) 01:07, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

All done, thanks for your help.--Saul McGill (talk) 03:44, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

@Saul McGill Sorry, I do not see significant coverage in reliable sources. I see blogs, passing mentions, and other unreliable coverage none of which meets the notability criteria for films to my satisfaction. This does not mean the article cannot be accepted ever or by another editor. It just means I have decided not to approve it. You may resubmit for consideration by another editor. However, please do not move the article to main space yourself until another AFC editor has reviewed it. While it may be disappointing for me to decline to consider the article for submission further, after significant improvements another editor may feel comfortable to do so. I strongly recommend you review the criteria set out here before continuing further. Thank you. MaxnaCarta (talk) 03:20, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Jamie Beaton

On 13 April 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Jamie Beaton, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that at the age of 27 New Zealand entrepreneur Jamie Beaton had degrees from Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, and Tsinghua University, and was working on his seventh degree, from Yale? Dietrich v The Queen

Thanks so much @
Baffle gab1978 MaxnaCarta (talk
) 09:03, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
No problem; I've now finished. Most of it was straightforward but please do check I haven't misinterpreted anything. One sentence in the subsection "Deitrich test" said "The determinant for "serious offence" was suggested to be where there is no threat of a custodial sentence.". I've made a commonsense assumption the "no" was a mistake and replaced "no" with "a" (diff); please correct this if my assumption is incorrect. Cheers and good luck with the article, Baffle☿gab 01:06, 20 April 2023 (UTC).
Thanks! MaxnaCarta (talk) 02:02, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Request Review

Hi, MaxnaCarta. Sorry for inconvenience, but I am asking you to review Draft:Simon Cosmas. Thanks. Chipeta100 (talk) 12:12, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Chipeta100. Thanks for stopping by. It’s not really appropriate to contact editors directly requesting a review. There are thousands of other entries awaiting review for submission. While I appreciate your efforts, it is best to wait for an editor to review the submission of their own accord. On this occasion I have declined the submission because it is well short of notability guidelines for Wikipedia. I do not think this person is suitable at all for inclusion based on the notability guideline which I’ve linked on the draft for you to review. If you wish to submit for another editor to review, please go ahead. However it will be some time before another editor reviews. I also believe they’ll decline again. I would encourage you not to submit this again because there isn’t enough significant coverage of the artist and they don’t meet any other notability criteria. Notability is very important here. It has a specific meaning on Wikipedia. Please go and review what I linked on the draft. Thanks. MaxnaCarta (talk) 12:37, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

ANI ISBN hyphen-ization discussion

@

WP:CITEVAR. E.g., we want our articles to use a single, unified pattern of hyphenation – not a mix of hyphenated and unhyphenated ISBNs. Alas, I can't find a good description of what "established citation style" means when it comes to ISBN hyphenization. We'll figure it out sooner-or-later – meanwhile, Happy Editing! – S. Rich (talk
) 03:23, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Srich32977. As you can see from my comment on both discussions, I have a rather surface level understanding. My question is why are we bothering with this… Even at FAC I haven’t had my ISBN formatting challenged. If it’s getting under so many peoples feathers, is it really something to pursue? MaxnaCarta (talk) 21:37, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Augnablik here, with question

Looks as if I've connected with you, even though I'm not sure this is what you meant by pinging an editor.

If you go to the article entitled "Parakeet" <Parakeet> and come down to the paragraph headlined "United Kingdom parakeet population," you'll find this statement: "It concluded that the thriving rose-ringed parakeet population in the United Kingdom had grown from numerous small-scale accidental and intentional pet releases. Previous theories had included a pair released by Jimi Hendrix on Carnaby Street and an arrival in 1951 when Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn visited London with various animals to film The African Queen,..."

What I can't understand is how people would release tropical birds intentionally in a city that gets freezing cold weather in the winter. Surely small parakeets would die if they were outside in that sort of climate. So I'd like to encourage the author to go into this rather than just leave readers dangling about it.

Augnablik (talk) 08:31, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

@Augnablik hi! Pinging means what I’ve just done. I’ve mentioned you so you get a notification and know I’ve replied. With regard to the article you are the “author”. Yes you! That’s the best thing about being here. You can fix issues you find. It’s a journey. Just make sure you use reliable sources and have the hang of the place before you make any major edits. That said, if you make a mistake someone can fix it. Welcome. MaxnaCarta (talk) 10:41, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
If I may respond to Augnablik here (as I was interested by the Teahouse query) . . . . This is a very well-attested phenomenon, and the Parakeet article has a link to Feral parakeets in Great Britain which goes into more detail. Parakeets can survive winters in Southern Britain the same way other birds of similar size (of which we have many) do. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.213.18.208 (talk) 02:39, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
Okay, I'm sure glad to hear those little fellows can survive winters. I'm really surprised because they're tropical birds. Even parrots I wouldn't have expected to be so hardy. Thanks for the consoling information! Augnablik (talk) 07:16, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
Please can this discussion be held over at the articles talk page? This page is for communication needing my attention. Thanks both. MaxnaCarta (talk) 07:31, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi

I saw that you moved the page I created to the draft

Draft:Economic Security Project (ESP)
The page is very well-researched and referenced as per Wikipedia guidelines and I believe you skipped that fact. I spent around 6 months of my time creating this page after extensive research and writing to help people in need. It clearly meets the standards of
WP:NONPROFIT. I wanted to revert your changes but I asked after seeing the message on the top of your talk page and I appreciate it a lot. Please understand the importance of the subject. Thanks Loslemons (talk
) 18:52, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi there @Loslemons. Thanks for the comment. My draft was not a mistake. This draft does not meet notability standards and has clearly been refbombed. If you disagree with ky decision to draft please submit it for review so a second editor can review. MaxnaCarta (talk) 21:29, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
