Mill House and The Wharf, Sutton Courtenay

Not sure why EH is so mealy-mouthed. The alterations definitely were by Walter Cave. See Berkshire: Tyack, Bradley and Pevsner, pages 553-4. Regards. KJP1 (talk) 17:00, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Any idea why Burges appears under L, for List, in the Category, Lists of buildings and structures by architect, rather than B? More importantly, do you know how to correct it, as I can't edit a Category? Another thing -checking back over Peter Vardy's lists, I see I've omitted any references. I shall correct this weekend. Many thanks for all your continued support in getting proper Wiki coverage for Mr B. KJP1 (talk) 07:13, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi Gareth. Further to Dr B's suggestion that we try to push this to GA, I've done some copy-editing, removed quite a lot of repetition - most of which was mine! - and beefed up the lead, so that it focuses more on the house and its importance. I don't think that I've lost anything in the process of doing so and hope that you're happy with the changes. What do you think about a bit of trimming of the Richard Harris period? I wonder if some of it shades into trivia? Tim R has said he'll do the GA review, so we're in very good shape there. I'd really like a plan of the house. I don't think Crook's got one, and it'd be copyright anyway. Can we include the Survey of London plans? I've a very small plan of the ground floor from The Building News of 1880, I wonder if I could scan and enlarge it. Anything else we should do before it goes to GA? Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 18:12, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Great work. I've trimmed Harris, but I so love the quirky La Rue nonsense. Plans are essential to understanding it, the description of the rooms can become dreamlike otherwise. The "house is not large..." quote is in comparison to what?

Copy of note pasted on Dr. B's page:
Dr. B - great re-ordering. Looks excellent. Now hurry it on to Tim at GA before some copyright wallah queries my use of the Survey of London plans and elevations. They add greatly to the article, but I'm sure they're not pukkah! All the very best. KJP1 (talk) 23:02, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Nicklas Bäckström in Sochi 2014

Hi,

I’d like to continue a bit more on this topic:

It is true that Bäckström did not get a medal physically around his neck, if that is what the intended in that last column.

But on the other hand, having won the semifinal match, he had de facto secured himself a medal, and he was stripped of it because of the failed doping test. Thus, there must exist a written document to this effect. Whether that counts as “having won a medal” is, of course, debatable, but in my opinion, the last column in that table should somehow reflect these facts; that the drugs test failure in this case was more significant that if someone from the Austrian or Norwegian team had failed a drugs test, which would not have amounted to much of anything, in terms of consequences, or at least the fate of the medals.

I personally believe that something should be said in the last column, but then again, I’m sure that other opinions exist, too, including yours.

talk
) 19:02, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

I quite agree that he was a de facto medal winner, and that he was stripped of a medal that he never received. I feel we should wait until further documentation comes out from the IOC, and take our lead from there. You've highlighted one of the vagaries of history though, of what huge details are lost in footnotes. Thank you for such a civilised discussion!

Sinatra

Thanks for the kind words BTW. I hadn't realized you'd opted to improve the Sinatra article for the Core Contest. I'd have helped you out on it. It would be good to try to get him up to GA although really it would be best to get a couple of books on him to ensure it's as good as it can be. If you want me to join you working on it gradually I'd be happy to, the guy had a tremendous aura about him. I was toying with the idea actually of working on Ava Gardner and getting books through the WMUK grant.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:29, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

I have the majority of the books listed in the further reading section, and several years ago in my madness spun off the article to "Life of Frank Sinatra", which was thankfully merged in time. If Elvis and Madonna can FA/GA then why shouldn't he? The "tremendous aura" is exactly what I wish our sparse prose could capture. Elvis has a good section on "Sex symbol" and impact, so these should give us pointers...Do we have a picture of the Ava Gardner's recent blue plaque?

Copying within Wikipedia

When you copy text from one Wikipedia article to another, you need to document it. This can be done a variety of ways, but perhaps the best is with a {{

2014 Chibok kidnapping, so no further action is needed (unless more than one source was used). Failure to document copying is against the terms of the GFDL/CC-BY-SA and thus technically creates a copyright violation. Please see WP:Copying within Wikipedia

Greetings fellow disambiguator! Remember back in February when we made history by clearing the board for the first time ever, for the monthly disambiguation contest? Let's do it again in May! Piers Morgan

I am sorry some of my notes on the Piers Morgan talk page were a bit jumbled! I couldn't quite understand your message to me on that talk page the other day, but I assume you meant that when posting comments/queries on a talk page I should put each on a separate line. Is that right?

I am new to Wiki editing and was fairly appalled at the state of this article, once I started delving into the footnotes and checking the quotations (especially as it seems to be quite an important one, judging by its semi-protected status). Whoever wrote it was careless about some pretty basic things, IMO, and I had to re-jig more than one or two sentences. Anyway, I have finished on it now and you will see a few more notes from me on the talk page. I am glad you are so experienced (I looked at your user page), as I really don't know what to do about the broken/redundant footnotes, the footnotes that didn't back up what they were supposed to, and the bits of quote in the text that had no back-up. I hope you can resolve this, though it may involve some fiddly investigation, I'm afraid. I wish I had the technical experience to do it myself. :(

) 13:12, 7 July 2014 (UTC)== Police investigations ==

Just a request for your views. On the BBC last night there was a report on the various ongoing child abuse investigations, which referred to Operation Mapperton in Tower Hamlets and Essex - mentioned here, and there are other mentions on blogs. We don't have an article on it, and I can't find it mentioned in any articles here. Looking into it a bit further I came across this site, which lists a whole slew of investigations, some of which may be notable, either individually or in total. I don't suggest we use that site itself, but some of its links might be useful. Should we be covering these investigations in some way - perhaps in a single overview article? I'm undecided and in many ways don't want to lead on this, but would appreciate your opinion. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:45, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

We're descending into the rabbit hole on these stories. I remember starting some of the early phone hacking articles, then just gave out, drowned in articles and spin offs. That operation does look interesting though, these pages must always be very closely watched. Perhaps there does need to be a broader article to bring together the unconnected but roughly linked by police stories on Savile, Barnes, North Wales, Norfolk, Westminster, PIE etc. I'm taking Exaro very seriously, not just on child abuse but phone hacking, BAE, etc.
talk
) 10:04, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
It now looks as though this, once it's formally announced, may be the focus of an overarching article. Re Exaro, my only point is that I would prefer to use the mainstream media, who monitor and use Exaro, as our secondary source, rather than using the investigators themselves. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:30, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
The mainstream media investigate even more than Exaro, and yet so much still escapes their pervue. I think a template might be able to bring all these together, for the bottom of the pages. Has wider enquiry been named?
