I appreciate that the former is the style recommended by many writing guides, but the spaced-out version is, for better or worse, the style that is used on every biography on Wikipedia; cf. I made an edit in the lead of the article to rephrase "college football season of 2006–2007" with simply 2006 NCAA Division I FBS football season. I know a lot of the season articles around phrase the season as XXXX–XXXX+1, but it's a bad practice because the convention has been to define the college season by the year in which it starts and in which almost all of its games are played. Also, I saw you created Category:2006 Pacific-10 football season. Those categories should probably be of the form Category:2006 Pacific-10 Conference football season. If you create more, can you go with that form? I can see about getting the existing ones moved. RayKiddy (talk) 21:13, 1 January 2011 (UTC) Sorry to butt in, but the reason why there are three types of boxes seems to be that there was some transition phase from the succession and incumbent templates (the original templates) to the S-boxes (the newer ones) a while ago, but the transition was aborted for some reason. Therefore, there is an inconsistency regarding the use of the boxes.
