This is the first time I have tried to edit anything on Wikipedia. I am finding it hard going even though I have programmed in many languages and markups all my life. The most frustrating thing is trying to find help. I have no idea how to find out what {{helpme}}
is about. I tried searching but nothing came up. How do I find help? Otterman 20:29, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- What
{{helpme}}
is about is you can put it on this page, without those <code> and <nowiki> parts and it will flag you as someone requesting help and someone will respond here. Now that you got my attention anyway, what do you need help with specifically? —Dgiest c 20:54, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
In general, I am finding the Help system hard to use, probable because there doesn't seem to be one. I am used to software and languages with a built-in help system where I can search for a word and find out what it means. Otterman 11:05, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- I think your problem is that there is a help guide on Wikipedia, but not a searchable help system because the site's search function is first and foremost an encyclopedia search. You might be more comfortable searching the site for MediaWiki, which is the software Wikipedia uses. One (advanced) caveat: MediaWiki has many extensions, not all of which are installed on Wikipedia; you can see the list at Special:Version. If you have more specific questions, just ask on my talk page. —Dgiest c 16:01, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
I had a quick look at your sandbox, and it's good work. You may want to complete it before posting into mainspace, but it would surely pass muster as is. I have couple of Drascombe images which I was thinking of uploading into Wiki Commons for the existing stub. I'll let you know where they are when I've done so - possibly this weekend. Let me know if you want help with anything else in the meantime. Regards, Ben MacDui (Talk) 23:20, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
You wondered what happened to this article. It appears to have been deleted. You may be able to contact the admin who deleted it to get back the content and then work on it in a sandbox (like you are apparently doing for other content). - From the deletion log (available here) Kafziel deleted it with the justfication "no context, no notability asserted" —Dgiest c 20:58, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

- No, I'm not, but I put in a request over at Wikipedia:Requested moves. —Dgiest c 21:37, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. So who are you? Otterman
- I started following this because on new page patrol I saw you making an empty skeleton article and we have a policy on deleting empty articles. Since you seemed to have constructive intentions, I kept an occasional eye on your progress. I'm glad to see you managed to turn it into a suitable article. Drop me a line if you ever need help. —Dgiest c 01:24, 22 February 2007 (UTC)]

- So I filed at Wikipedia:Requested moves but someone is being stubborn on rather thin procedural grounds. Escalating through process, I have nominated the original article for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Drascombe so that it may be deleted to make way for your article. —Dgiest c 08:39, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

- Hornet's nest. If I had just copy and pasted the text from User:Colinwatt/Sandbox to Drascombe would anybody have noticed? Otterman 21:07, 22 February 2007 (UTC)]
- Don't know, and I'm not going to touch this one anymore. Either use your best judgment, or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk and get advice from anyone but me or SMcCandlish. —Dgiest c 21:14, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
