New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

Hi,

Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Thanks and some questions...

First off, I want to say thanks for the great editing you have been doing to the

Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada
page. I am relatively new at Wikipedia editing, so your input and additions are much appreciated. I think its appropriate to act more collaboratively in the future, so I want to ask your opinion of some more changes I think the Chartered Professional Accountant page needs.

1. I would like to remove the section "Origin of name." It seems outdated and irrelevant. What do you think?

2. The "Impact" section is 5 years outdated. I believe the sources are from 2012, and the section is speculative in nature. Perhaps one of us can find some source/sources that have a more recent discussion of the impact of the CPA designation on public perception, etc...?

3. Right now the article is rated as a "Start class" article. I think that designation is quite inaccurate, and should probably be changed to at least C-class. Do you agree?

I would be happy to hear from you about these issues and any others you might want to bring to my attention. One other thing- is your Talk page the right place for this discussion, or is it more correct to discuss this on the article's Talk page? I thought about placing it there, but then I wasn't sure if you would see it. I am happy to move the discussion to the article's Talk page, if you think that is more correct. Thanks again. SaturnsRings27 (talk) 06:14, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the good words! Being a Canadian CPA, I've felt it to be my duty to assemble the various facts together for this, such as they are. I'm surprised, though, that none of my fellow members have felt compelled to join in. Canadian accountants have always been a very insular bunch. As to your comments:
  1. I'd prefer to keep the discussion about the name's origin, if only to show that it was not purely a Canadian creation.
  2. Agreed. There has been almost nothing available from third parties these past few years to rely on, in order to update the section. The Bottom Line, Canada's accounting periodical, ceased publication last December, and CPA Magazine has mentioned nothing in its issues. I recently noticed that the Canadian Academic Accounting Association has just published some research about the impact of the merger, but I haven't had the chance to look at it. I'll give it a go and update.
  3. If you feel the article deserves a C-class rating, go ahead and update.
Perhaps future discussion can take place on the articles' talk pages. They're on my watchlist, and I do check it regularly. Thanks again.Raellerby (talk) 10:28, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed that you have been editing

Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada so I thought you might like to know that I just took off a speedy deletion tag from that article. I have no idea why the tag was placed there, but it seemed to me inappropriate. From my point of view the article seems important and should not be deleted. Image is still too big for non free - text is not a criteria for non-free image - as policy states - An original, high resolution image (that can be reasonably scaled down to maintain overall artistic and critical details) may lose some text detail. In such cases, that text should be duplicated on the image description page. Care should be given to the recreation of copyrighted text: while it is appropriate for credits from a movie poster as factual data, such duplication would not be appropriate for an original poem embedded within an image. It's sometimes better to use a block quote on the article. A one megapixel image is very large for non-free and would have to have a very good reason and community support to stay.

Template:Canadian federal election, 2019

I've rolled back your changes because:

  • Symbols instead of text reduce clarity, not improve it.
  • The % where running column gives an accurate impression of the strength of the BQ and minor parties that are regional in nature. It is not redundant.
  • N/A was used for new parties in 2015, not dashes; if a dash were used an em-dash would be more appropriate.

I developed the template by adapting the code used in the template for the 2015 results. I'll test your removal of text-align coding and use that if it doesn't break the table.

I do thank you for (indirectly) making me aware of forgetting to use asterisks to mark unmarkable columns for new parties.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to [email protected], so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at [email protected].

Thank you!

930,000,000th edit to Wikipedia

I thought you might find it interesting to know that your edit [1] to the History of British Airways was the 930,000,000th edit to the English Wikipedia. I like keeping track of (and in this case, updating) WP:Time Between Edits, which is about the time it takes between every 10 million edits. Clovermoss (talk) 21:09, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Updates to Template:UCC

Hi!

Since you are the original creator of Template:UCC, I thought I'd make sure you were looped in on an update I made just now that added the ability to cite a subsection. e.g. UCC § 2-314(2)(b) . (And I certainly don't mean to imply that you are fungible :) ...) I added the Template:UCC/sandbox and Template:UCC/testcases pages and everything seems to work just fine. Since you were the original creator, if you had a minute to double check the test cases and also to make sure that I didn't miss something that would break the template.

Hope you're well!

Notice

The article List of marginal seats in the 2015 Canadian federal election has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article is 100% unreferenced. The idea that these are all somehow marginal seats is WP:OR, not backed up by any WP:RS that asserts that.

.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ahunt (talk) 12:53, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Constituency results

I appreciate the work you've done creating tables for election results but please do not delete the riding by riding results that list results by candidates - you may not find these useful but other people do. If it's too long then put them on a subpage but please don't just delete them as you did in various Ontario provincial election result pages. In future, please create a subpage like this one Results of the 2003 Ontario general election by riding and if you could do that for any page for which you have deleted riding by riding results, please do. Wellington Bay (talk) 14:32, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, I think you missed 1999 Ontario general election when you were drawing up synoposis tables. Wellington Bay (talk) 16:20, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
