This would be great! I've been creating articles on various federal judges using the entries on that site and this would be helpful. Question for Crzrussion: Would you suggest that we include all historical federal judges or just current ones? My personal goal is to have at least a stub on each First Circuit, Second Circuit, and SDNY judge within the next month or so. Regards, Newyorkbrad 16:07, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rambot demographics suggestion/question

Are there sources that you could use to add housing and cost of living information to city articles? They are common counterpoints in non-wikipedia articles on median income, and would provide valuable context to other information that you already include in automatically generated demographics sections.

RamBot for Bengali wikipedia

Hi Ram-Man, I was wondering if we could make use of your rambot in Bengali Wikipedia. We currently have almost no US city/county related pages there. If your bot is still active, I can help with creating the templates for the city/county articles in Bengali script. Thanks. --Ragib 08:18, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Approved request

In general, please try to let them stay transcluded for a few days or until the operator is aware. In this case it doesn't matter, but I just want to make sure that things flow smoothly for those requesting approval.

Voice-of-All 18:52, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply

Once a bot has been approved and a bot flag granted, there is really nothing left to say. Adding it to the list of approved bots is sufficient at the bottom of the page is sufficient. All the links are available to the approved tasks. Leaving on the request list implies that there is still more to be done. -- RM 23:09, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Future census data

I've been tinkering with the

Fort Hood
article, and was thinking that editor changes to the articles at the wrong spot could make it difficult or impossible for Rambot to update demographic and other data, such as when the 2010 census is published. How about creating a template for this? That way, the template could be tinkered with to fix wording or spelling problems and create a more standardized look, and rambot would only have to adjust the figures listed in the template.

I've been working on Template:Update after with Rick Block, and have learned that some interesting things can be done with templates.

--Scott McNay 12:48, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This has been discussed before, but nothing ever done on the topic. I'm not entirely sure whether a template is a good idea, since it is just a large amount of data and it isn't very readable for normal users who want to add information to an individual article. As for updating the articles, little changes here and there will have to be dealt with manually. It will be interesting, no doubt, but the wide majority of rambot-added articles have a consistent look-and-feel, so it shouldn't be too bad. -- RM 15:02, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portola Valley, California

I came across an interesting error in the demographics data for Portola Valley, California. It said that "Males had a median income $0 versus $92,585 for females."

It's easy to see where the error came from. If you check the US Census data [2], the figure was given as 100,000+. There can't be too many communities that had median incomes over $100,000 in 2000, but I would assume that RamBot changed all of those figures to $0. I just looked at a few of the cities listed in the Highest-income places in the United States, and most of the ones that I looked at seemed to have problems with their income numbers. Image licensing problem on commons

Hello Ram-Man. I noticed that you have been including some additional license warnings on the images you have uploaded to commons, and I'm afraid they're a problem.

The statement "You may NOT use this image on your own web site or anywhere else unless you release this image and any derivative works (e.g. your web site) by following the terms of one of the following licenses" is contrary to the Creative Commons license, since the website (or newspaper, etc.) where the image might be used is not considered a derivative work.

I you want to release them under a licence that does not permit their use on proprietary websites or other media, you can't use the CC license (since the restriction you appear to be adding here means that the image is not free use, so actually you couldn't keep the images on commons at all). Please let us know what you'd like to do (best leave me a note on my commons user page). --SB_Johnny|talk|books 17:00, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will take this under advisement and resolve this issue as soon as possible. Please allow me some time to make the changes. -- RM 18:31, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No hurry... I figured that was the case. You just need to remove that sentence and otherwise it's OK (OTOH, you really don't need any additional licensing stuff at all).
There are bots available to make the changes en masse... let me know what changes you'd like made and I'll see if I can get it done for you. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 18:38, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

census data entry

Hi, I'm a sysop on srwiki. It is my understanding that you are in control of a robot which was used to add data from U.S. census to large numbers of articles on this wiki. :)

A similar attempt at our wiki was made roughly a year ago and it ended, ehm, rather infamously. Many people were very discontent with the whole concept and then there was a whole additional mess created by the fact that we must transliterate all names into Serbian script which is a task that bot can not and no human wanted to do. Anyway.

I am actually writing for a more structural reason. We are in the process of discussing and hopefully adopting our own version of Wikipedia:Notability. Many people fail to see how random places of 25 souls each meet the basic notability criteria just because there is a set of data about it - in other words, how is it that creating articles about places based solely on statistical data does not violate "Wikipedia is not an indiscrimimnate collection of information" or lead to articles about intergalactic partcles and such.

I am sure you had a wide discussion about these issues here on enwiki. It would be great if you could point me to places where I could read some of these deliberations and what kind of consensus was reached. Any additional comments or advice would also be welcome. Thanks. (You can also leave me a message at sr:Разговор са корисником:Dzordzm if you'd wish.) --Dzordzm 01:50, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rambot?

I was just curious: seeing all the work Rambot did on those municipality articles a few years ago, could you perhaps bring him out of retirement? Some other editors and I recently completed stubs for all

Ohio townships, but virtually none of the articles have census information. Thanks! Nyttend 14:48, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply
]

For the most part if the there is census data available, it should already exist. If it does not exist, it may be a real place that is not considered by the census bureau to be census designated place, that is, it will be part of another broad city, township, county, etc. As such, I do not have the data that you are requesting. Sorry! -- RM 17:29, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Some pages do have at least minimal census information, such as Salem Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, but most do not. Would you be able to mine pages such as the reference listed for this page? Thanks! Nyttend 19:30, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Butterfly weed photo

Hi Derek,

I write and design for a newspaper called the Durham Herald-Sun. We create a quarterly, glossy magazine called Facets, for which we are now working on the spring issue.

I am writing a photo-heavy story on Unique plants for avid gardeners. A local and highly regarded botanist suggested I use Butterfly Weed as one of the plants in the story. I found your photos online and would like to use one of the flower bud closeups, with your credit of course.

Please let me know if you are interested in sharing.

Sharing part of the Rambot database

Hi Ram-man,

I'm considering creating a bot that will add some infoboxes and new maps to many cities/towns/townships/etc in the United States. I've already created the Massachusetts ones and want to expand to the rest of the country. Right now I have a list of 38,500 articles in this category, but I need a way to map the Wikipedia article names to the US census database. Would it be possible for you to provide me with such a mapping (i.e., article names to FIPS codes, or whatever other field you use to connect to the census database)? Or perhaps you might be willing to share the entire database with me instead of just that one field? It would drastically reduce any differences in geographic/demographic information between the text of the articles and the infoboxes if we were using the same data (although I still plan on writing a bot to go through a data-dump and extract all of the geographic/demographic information from the text to help minimize the problem). Please let me know if this will be possible. --CapitalR 05:26, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since the bot has last run, I have not done anything with the data. It resides on archive DVDs in MySQL format. Nevertheless, the rules for naming are generally somewhat complicated and not always accurate. For example, sometimes what the rambot named the articles was later changed by moving or merging an article. Also, some municipalities have changed by absorbing others or being absorbed, so that changes everything as well. In order to get you any data, I would have to spend the time to setup MySQL (which is not installed on my computer) and setup the tables. I suppose this is possible, but in the years since I've last done anything, I have not found the time, despite all the requests. I would need a minimum of a few days to get it done anyway. But it isn't possible to get an exact one-to-one mapping without first checking the page to make sure it matches the main list (which should be 95% accurate). -- RM 15:13, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RM, regarding this speedy approval, I don't see where the trial results were ever posted, and is this still going to be operating as an anon? — xaosflux Talk 12:21, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've been heavily active on the commons and watching the progress of this bot in general, so I've seen it functioning. However, if you feel that a speedy approval is unmerited, feel free to change it to trial. I'll make sure that the bot logs in so we can track the changes. Also, this bot never did post a trial here on en explicitly, because the bot owner never formally requested approval, except on the meta where there was a project wide request. I consider its recent edits as a sufficient trial, just like we have done in the past with a number of other bots. Since it was approved project-wide, this request was a mere formality IMO. The bot makes a lot of edits and should be running with a bot flag, plus people will block a bot if they can't find any specific approval, so we had to do at least that much. -- RM 12:34, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

60 days vs 6 months

60 days is still a lot of time for Betacommand to mend his ways as compared to six months. Even after that time period, BAG would still reserve the right to bring him in or keep him in probation for another four months. So I think it's ok. I read the comments, and the community endorses the overall proposals before BC posted his his. I have kept in mind both points and also the fact that BC is still free to help out here. Merge proposal: incorporated place and census designated place into place (United States Census Bureau)

While caught up in the argument about whether we should use the term "census designated place" as the primary term to refer to unincorporated towns and villages I did a bit of research. I think what I found was interesting and useful. However I found it awkward to incorporate the information into the census designated place article, partly because the material also belongs in the incorporated place article. Also, a lot of the CDP article explains how a CDP resembles, but is not, an incorporated place where the incorporated place article is practically empty. I don't think there is enough unique material for three separate articles so I'm proposing a merger into one article named "place (United States Census Bureau)". I have already written the article that explains the terms in a logical order. I am asking for opinions, edits, etc. from other people who have written on the issue. See Talk:Place (United States Census Bureau) for more information. Rsduhamel 01:02, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i need to use your high definition picture of the rainbow lorikeet for ny website.

To use my pictures you have to follow the licensing restrictions on them. Any other use requires special permission. -- RM 01:32, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Licensing question

While looking around at stuff for Crawford County, Pennsylvania, I found that there weren't individual municipality locator maps, as there are for places in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Therefore, I took your blank county map and made individual maps for each municipality, CDP, and township. However, I'm not exactly sure whether I licensed it properly in accord with your previous file, since the images I upload are generally original pictures that I release into the public domain. Would you please look at the one locator map that I've uploaded so far, Image:Map of Adamsville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania Highlighted.png, and let me know whether I've done it appropriately? Thanks! Nyttend 21:11, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Borough categories

I'm contacting you because I see you have created some Alaskan 'borough' catgeories and given them their proper names. There is currently a heated debate with regards to English geography relating to the borough category names. Someone has been naming the categories after the main town in them, which covers a different area to the borough itself. Some of us believe it should be unambiguous so the full borough name should be used. It would be welcome if you could lend us your vote for a rename at: Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_June_9#Oldham. Thanks. 88.104.64.157 16:40, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey again

Hi again, Derek. I just wanted to give you an update and heads-up about the Wikimeetup this coming Sunday. I'll be there, as will my friend from Wikibooks, but the *big news* is that we're launching a local Wikimedia chapter at the event: Wikimedia Pennsylvania (the first official US chapter). If you have irc access, pop on #wikimedia-pa (freenode) for more info on it, or just have a look at meta:Wikimedia Pennsylvania.

In an unrelated heads-up, Wikiversity finally got DPL enabled, so there are graphical bloom clock lists now (at least for Southeastern Pennsylvania). Here's an example of what I mean... thought you might get a kick out of it. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 11:50, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Pennsylvania

Hello there!

I'm writing to inform you that we are now forming the first local Wikimedia Chapter in the United States: Wikimedia Pennsylvania. Our goals are to perform outreach and fundraising activities on behalf of the various Wikimedia projects. If you're interested in being a part of the chapter, or just want to know more, you can:

Thanks and I hope you join up! Cbrown1023 talk 04:18, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS request

Various friends of mine have taken pictures that they're willing to let me upload to the Commons under appropriate licenses. Some months ago, one friend took a picture (Image:TRC Perry Township.jpg) and sent a well-worded permission email for the OTRS. I'd like to give this text as an example to my other friends, but I don't have the text of the email. Would you please access its ticket, https://secure.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketID=786492, and email me the text? Thanks! Nyttend 03:18, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I came across your photo of Roebling's Delaware Aqueduct and would like to find out how I might obtain permission to use the image in a text book I'm writing for high school students about technology. The book is part of a National Science Foundation project and would be commercially published and distributed nationwide.

Thanks so much for your help. Michael Hacker Co-director Hofstra University Center for Technological Literacy [email protected]

I have tried to contack Seth Ilys about creating a few more dot-maps, but have gotten no answer. So, I now come to you to see if you can make a few? User:Ram-Man/Licensing Guide

Hi Ram-Man,
I'm fairly sure no. 3 and 4 are not correct - what do you base those points on? --Fir0002 09:43, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Number 3 is quite obvious because the text of the license says so. You must include a copy of the license along with the image. It can be either in physical or digital form, but it cannot be a link to some web address (with the exception of a web page, where you have to also host the copy, but can link to that copy, as Wikipedia does). You cannot link back to gnu.org or just provide the web address like you can with a Creative Commons license because that is not a copy.
Number 4 is just a rephrasing of the legal definition of a derivative work. Now it is possible for an image to be used in a "collective work", but this is unusual and not the normal usage. I could have just quoted the U.S. statute governing these terms, but then that wouldn't be as easy for everyone to understand either. It is simply not true that you can use any GFDL image with any text and not have that be a resulting derivative work. The rules for images are the same as the rules for text. If you copy text verbatim and add it to your document, that's exactly the same as copying a picture and adding it to your document. If either are GFDL, the entire document must be GFDL. Please see copyleft. I have this notice especially, because most people do not understand copyleft or the GFDL, so this has to be explicitly stated or people will violate my copyright. I have had infringers images taken down for this copyright violation in the past. When other users choose to ignore this type of violation when their own pictures are used, that is totally their business, but I won't allow it if they don't ask for the permission that I'm legally entitled to. The note on fairness is just plain common sense: people frequently try to rip off my work without properly licensing an image and without giving back their derivative works. They want something for nothing, but this isn't public domain, and that needs to be made very clear.
-- RM 12:48, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK fair enough - I can readily understand your concern with regards to copyright violations (it's something dear to my heart also); however I think you're stretching the terms of the GFDL on a technicality with regards to the GFDL link. I'm fairly sure that you wouldn't be able to do anything about it if someone merely linked back to the gnu.org copy or even the image description page on Wikipedia/commons - this has happened to me before. Number 4 I'm not sure on (hopefully I might be in a better position in six and half years when I finish my double degree!) - to me it wouldn't make sense to demand an entire 48 page book be released under the GFDL just because it includes a 8x5cm picture! Anyway I think what this really illustrates is the need for Wikipedia/commons to adopt a NC license! --Fir0002 10:45, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The requirement for a copy to be included is one of the criticisms of the GFDL, something the CC license do not require. In copying large quantities in a printed medium, the license also requires that they provide a web link to the original or a digital copy, something I should probably add to my list of requirements. #4 is something most people do not like, but it is the purpose of copyleft. The point is that you can't normally use any part of a copyleft work in a non-copyleft work. The two are incompatible. In the case of an encyclopedia, however, each article is considered a separate work, so the license in one does not automatically become the license in the other. However, within an article, the images and text should all be the same license. I don't know how Wikipedia gets away with using CC licenses in a GFDL document, because such usage is supposed to be forbidden. I know that Wales and others are working on a new GFDL version that eliminates this problem. I suppose people just don't object or maybe there is a legal loophole somewhere. I avoid that issue entirely for my works, so I don't pay much attention to it. -- RM 15:37, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. There's a request to edit the template above, which you edit protected in 2005. It seems harmless to me, as a request to optionally add logos to the template, and unlikely to conflict with your stated reason for protecting the template, but my strengths are definitely not in template making, and I thought to ask you. :) Is it all right to implement this requested change? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:25, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The page was protected to prevent the legal text from changing. Adding logos shouldn't be a problem. If you are worried about messing it up, make a copy in a personal sandbox to test it out. -- RM 00:57, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll give it a try. :) The person who is requesting the edit requested the last one, implemented in April of 2007 evidently without problems. I've tested it out at my sandbox, and it seems to be okay. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:06, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bot for es:wiki

Hi, Ram-Man!

I am Racso, from the spanish Wikipedia. There we have aproved a policy that allows users (under certain [¡lot of!] conditions) to run articles-creating bots. I have created a bot that translates your Rambot articles into spanish. I know the bot works because I have used it for improving articles (Counties articles) that some people had already created (it has a problem: some of the articles have changed their text, so the bots has problems some times when translating; I corrected those translation bugs by hand). BUT... it cannot be used for creating articles because the policy states that a database shall be used, and I am using en:wiki as database, but I i think that is not valid because the data could be changed/vandalized.

That is why I am here. We are interested in making articles for all the counties, and for cities with more pop than X people (We are not sure about X; maybe 30K, 50K, don't know).

  1. ¿Have you released the source code of the bot? If you have, ¿where can I get it? If you have not, ¿is there any way you can share it?
  2. Or well, there is another solution: I can make another bot that takes the data directly from the source, but I don't know where is that. ¿Where does the bot takes the data for making the articles? I saw the U.S. census page, but all the data is really dispersed in lot of pages. ¿Is there any file containing all the data I can use?

That is all. Thank you very much for your atention, and sorry for my bad english ;). --200.114.40.62 (talk) 17:11, 2 March 2008 (UTC) (Racso)[reply]

possible issue with attribution of PD material in articles on towns

Hi Ram-Man -- In a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cities#Public domain text style again, user SEWilco has suggested that two articles, for Bartlett, Illinois and Ephrata, Pennsylvania, and perhaps many more, are deficient for their failure to attribute use of public domain text. He asked me to contact you. Honestly, I believe he is trying to egg me on into making some too-broad criticism, and honestly I am unclear what are his true complaints about these articles that he singles out. But, if your "rambot" grabs information out of some census database or other public domain source, and generates an article about a town, then I probably would think it should include some attribution to the source. By the way, output from the Elkman NRHP infobox generator, includes a footnote to the National Park Service NRIS database that is its fundamental source. That generator has been very helpful in many thousands of wikipedia articles on NRHP sites, and I expect that your rambot has provided an equally valuable contribution in its domain. I don't know anything about your rambot though, and whether it can be improved in any way or not. Anyhow, could you please take a look at the discussion which has opened up? I'll look for your response there. Thanks! Sincerely, doncram (talk) 20:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding. Nothing will be done to Rambot flag status. I just was trying to clear out the automated list of accounts with the Bot flag, so its easier to keep track of whats going on. But of course, once your approved for a task, that approval doesn't expire due to inactivity. And back when I was an IP editor, what drew me to the Meta part of the site was all the discussion of Rambot's activities, which I thought were really cool and couldn't see why others objected to them. FP nomination

I have nominated one of the images you have uploaded as a

Elucidate (parlez à moi) Ici pour humor 14:01, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would propose that Wikipedia adopt a 'Valued' or 'Encyclopedic' images department. The images that garner this status on Wikipedia would have to be tagged with a different template to the Valued or Quality image seals, in order to distinguish between them. I suggest that images that receive this status should be highly encyclopedic images, although not necessarily of excellent quality. Images that illustrate a point in an exemplary manner, for example, could be nominated as these 'Encyclopedic Images'. There would obviously be problems, for example: who defines an image as being encyclopedic or the most valuable of a large group of images? What scope should or could an image be nominated within? Thus, a vote of consensus would be required. I think the initiation of such an area would benefit Wikipedia. Diagrams, sounds and various other media could also be included in this. I would be willing to draw up a draft for the page; however, the decision must first be made. I've seen you around

WP:FPC, so I thought you'd be interested. See the Village pump for more information. Elucidate (parlez à moi) Ici pour humor 08:21, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply

License for Image:Black squirrel.jpg

Your Image:Black squirrel.jpg
Your Image:Black squirrel.jpg
Move to commons representation
Move to commons representation

The image Black squirrel.jpg is a candidate to be copied to the Wikimedia Commons. When you uploaded this image, you licensed it for use under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). On behalf of the Wikipedia and Commons communities, thank you. However, the GFDL requires that reproductions of the image (and any other GFDL-licenced works), must be accompanied by the full text of the GFDL. The GFDL is intended more for documentation and not images, so downstream re-users may be hindered by additional restrictions of the GFDL which may not work well on the use of one image.

Before I copy this image to the Commons, I wanted to ask whether you would be willing to multilicense your work under an additional license, such as a

many free licenses
accepted on Wikipedia and Commons which can provide freedoms similar to the GFDL, but without some of its requirements.

You are under no obligation whatsoever to alter the license. Doing so merely cooperates with those members of the community who believe that multilicensing your work can ease the reuse of images outside of Wikipedia.

If you use a GFDL license tag which requires distribution of Wikipedia's general disclaimer (indicated by "Subject to disclamiers" in the template), it is also suggested that you switch it to one which does not apply them.

Whether or not you choose to dual-license your work, thank you for your consideration.

Please also see
Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons for more information.
This message was placed using Template:Dual-licence
.

Thanks! --Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to copy it to the commons, but I won't dual license my images because I have a philosophical problem with Creative Commons. They support a very loose interpretation of "derivative work" that I cannot accept. -- RM 12:36, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I intend to include this picture in a textbook that I am preparing for my students as an example of Araceae plants.

GFDL licensing used does not permit later versions - Image:Black squirrel.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Black squirrel.jpg.

However, I note from the file's description page that the file is uploaded under a version of the

GFDL
that does not permit re-licensing under a later version of that license.

If you are the creator of the image or media in question, please update the license to a version of the GFDL which permits limited re-licensing (such as 1.3 or later, this is due to planned licensing changes across WMF projects.

If you are not the creator of the image/media in question, then please contact the original copyright holder(s) or uploader(s), to request re-licensing.

If you have uploaded other files, under GFDL terms which does not permit re-licensing under a later version, please also consider updating the licensing for those images.

Images with GFDL versions, which do not permit re-licensing under later versions may be considered for deletion owing to planned changes in Wikipedia licensing.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:50, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The GFDL 1.2 is equally compatible with the GFDL 1.3 in the same way that any of the CC-SA licenses are, but that doesn't stop Wikimedia from using them. Unless we reject the CC-SA licenses, we must equally accept the GFDL-1.2 licenses. Both contain copyleft clauses that only support their own license. If Wikimedia transitions to the GFDL 1.3, I'll consider uploading my licenses, but since I have not reviewed the new license, I will not relicense my work. Blindly licensing my work automatically is reckless. -- RM 18:58, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I think the point was the specific type of GFDL 1.2 tag you used ({{
GFDL-1.2-en}}), which specifically states that it is not compatible with future versions. WP is licensed under 1.2 and any future versions, which is the image tag {{GFDL}}. I don't mean to sound patronizing if you are already fully aware of the details. The specific version of the tag you used places images in Category:GFDL 1.2 images, and you'll notice that there aren't many images there (and many are from you or your friends). Apologies if this is seen as annoying, but this small edit will prevent the possibility of these images being deleted when WP switches licenses in the next year or so (see meta:Licensing_update/Questions_and_Answers#Images). Obviously it's up to you what you do you with your images, and I am simply hoping this is a confusion of the wording of the tag. Thanks! ~ JohnnyMrNinja 03:06, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply

Request to use three morning glory pics of yours, with credit and with GNU license. Only editing would be to shrink the file size for posting to a web page

Hi Derek,

Pursuant to the below-noted request, I re-read the terms of the GNU license and determined that I am complying with your requests.

The images are up here:

http://e-cuneiform.blogspot.com/2009/05/fight-for-light-fearsome-foe.html

If you have any concerns, please let me know. I believe that I have met with all your concerns.

Hi Ram-Man,

I run a blog at http://e-cuneiform.blogspot.com/

I would like to use three of your morning glory photos:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Morning_Glory_Curled_Side_1800px.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ipomoea_purpurea_2400px.jpg

and

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Morning_Glory_Leaves_3284px.jpg

for a posting on Morning glory.

I would include your description, credits, and the GNU license on both an alt-title for people for whom the image does not load up and as a mouseover title, which is my standard practice.

I was intending on downloading the pictures to my hard drive, running them through picassa to save them in a smaller memory format suitable for posting on blogger, posting them, and then deleting them from my hard drive.

I would, of course, let you know when I post the article, as a courtesy.

Please let me know if this is acceptable.

I almost invariably post using my own pictures, but this story and article date from three houses, two countries, and two continents ago. And a corrupted memory file. So I have had to go to the Wikimedia Commons to find images of morning glory.

Please advise if this is acceptable to you.

I am not sure how public this space is. You could comment on the blog, or find the email through the blog's "complete profile" section, the link to that is found at the very bottom of the blog page.

Thanks for your time and for uploading the pictures.

I hope I can use them.
