]- Hello, Rogeratlymm,
- Please don't move draft articles to project/Wikipedia space or User space unless it is your own User space like your Sandbox. And this page was deleted because it contained no content. Don't move blank pages to the main space of the project.

- Sorry for my finger trouble! I understand now that I should have moved the Sandbox to 'Article' rather than 'User' or 'Wikipedia'. Rogeratlymm (talk) 20:33, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello Rogeratlymm. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Jean Thomassen, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Rogeratlymm. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose β e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Rogeratlymm|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken β you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits β please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Your contributions such as Jean Thomassen and associated articles on his paintings and his wife seem to imply a conflict of interest. Please describe your connection to Thomassen. Thank you Netherzone (talk) 22:43, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for contacting me about my Wikipedia pages on Jean Thomassen. I am very happy to confirm that I have received and expect to receive no benefits, financial or otherwise, from these pages. I created the pages for the entirely altruistic reason that, having viewed and admired his work - for which he has been knighted - I believe that it deserves greater recognition outside his native Holland. Please confirm that my contribution is therefore in accordance with the Wikimedia Terms of Use. Rogeratlymm (talk) 08:20, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Rogeratlymm, thank you for the quick reply. I'm just wondering, if you do not have a direct connection to Thomassen, how is it that you were able to upload so many images of his work as your "own work"? Netherzone (talk) 18:32, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello again Netherzone. I'm not sure how you gained the impression that I did not have a direct connection to Jean Thomassen. In fact, already aware of his work, I had the pleasure of meeting him in person at the special exhibition of many of his paintings at Museum Slager in Holland four years ago. We kept in touch and he has been very helpful in explaining some of the less obvious elements in his paintings. I became aware that although there is a somewhat inadequate Dutch entry (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Thomassen) there was no equivalent English Wikipedia entry. My latent thought of producing such a page had to be put on hold, firstly because of Covid and then because of my other work pressures. Since your earlier message I have confirmed again that the artist holds the rights to the full resolution images but is entirely happy that the lower resolution images should appear on Wikipedia. It was because I had generated the lower resolution images that I thought that it would be reasonable to claim they were my 'own work'. I will be more than happy to accept your advice on the best way forward. Of course, an easy answer would be to remove all images from Wikipedia but I think this would be a disservice to readers - a bit like going round a gallery with one's eyes shut. One final point - I should like to reiterate that I am receipt of no payment or reward for this work, which is offered in the best traditions of Wikipedia contributions. Rogeratlymm (talk) 14:52, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Rogeratlymm, Thank you for stating that you are not being paid. However you clearly have a WP:COI. In a nutshell,
- you should disclose your COI when involved with affected articles;
- you are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly;
- you may COI noticeboard, so that they can be peer reviewed;
- you should put new articles through the Articles for Creation (AfC)process instead of creating them directly;
- you should not act as a reviewer of affected article(s) at AfC, new pages patrolor elsewhere;
- you should respect other editors by keeping discussions concise.
- Additionally, there is a "Plain and simple guide to COI editing that can be found here: WP:PLAINSIMPLECOIif you want to quickly review what is required.
- You need to stop editing the articles directly and instead use the Edit Request system.
- Regarding the photos that you uploaded as "your own work", that will need to be corrected. Because Thomassen, not you, own the copyrights we would need to have confirmation that they gave you explicit permission to be uploaded and released with a CC 4.0 license., which allows ANYONE to
- share
- to copy, distribute and transmit the work
- to remix β to adapt the work

- WP:VRTthat must be followed to prove that the copyrights were transferred to you, and/or that he is releasing his work on that license. That consent (proof) needs to be sent via the VRT ticketing system guidelines. Since you are not the legal owner of his copyright (even if you happen to like or even own the paintings), the photographs unfortunately will have to be deleted because of copyright violation, see: WP:COPYVIO.
- I'm sorry to have to share this news with you, I know it's a lot of information to take in. Copyright law is complex and often confusing. Please reach out if you have questions, and if I don't know the answer, I will try to find another editor to help, or you can ask at the WP Teahouse, or WP Help desk, or Commons Help Desk.
