dude, what are you talking about?

clearly you have a personal vendetta against me.

some guy, politely edited my page to ask me a question. as such I replied to him, on his user page,

but I started of my comment by saying I was answering his question, and as I had never been asked, or needed to reply to one, I was writing on his user page (which is what I thought you were supposed to do. I even said, my apolgies to him, if I was answering his question in the wrong place, and the tone of my reply to his somewhat acerbic question was polite, complimentary and to the point.

as such, there is no reason to accuse me of vandalism. and clearly the only reason you said so was as a result of the fact that you have a differnt ideology, and not because i vandalized anyones page.

And as it is clear you have singled me out for harrassment I have reported you to wikipedia, for singling me out, and leveling false charges against me.

please stop harrassing me, and please do not reply to any posts I put on wiki-webpages again.

(Ghee99 (talk) 00:01, 7 July 2009 (UTC)).

No one is harassing you. You edited
Wikipedia:Template_messages/User_talk_namespace#Warnings) to point out that one should not edit another user's page. I'm sure DKqwerty would like his user page how he constructed it, and I'm sure you would want to know that the talk needed to be on his talk page.  Ronhjones  (Talk)
00:17, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I didn't leave a template message, I asked him a question inappropriate for talk pages. I have since removed it, but I was using his talk page as forum rather than for improving Wikipedia. My apologies in that regard all around.
As for User:Ghee99, User:Ronhjones took issue with you replying on my user page rather than my talk page. Typically (99.9% of the time) editors do not edit other editors' user pages, only their talk pages. It's a mistake I'm surly willing to forgive (especially in light of my own) on the condition that you have learned from your mistake.
Again, my apologies for precipitating this little tiff. DKqwerty (talk) 00:37, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Bloomington-Normal

Please use an article's talk page before removing material.

If you had, you might have discovered that I live significantly closer to Bloomington-Normal, Illinois (as I live in Champaign, Illinois) whereas you live in the United Kingdom. Thus, chances are good that I have a little more in the way of knowledge about the area than you do. I know your efforts were well-intentioned, nevertheless, your zeal to remove information is contrary to Wikipedia's principle of being bold. In the future, please do the following before removing material: (1) do a quick "back-of-the-envelope" evaluation of the plausibility of the added information (is it patently ridiculous? does it seem legitimate? is there a motive to add false information of the type added? what is my own acquaintance with the subject-matter) and (2) if the previous questions lead you to the conclusion that the information is not apparent vandalism and that you are not familiar with the subject of the article (conclusions, I hasten to add, that you should have reached here), please share your misgivings on the article's discussion page before unilaterally reverting an article.

I will revert your deletion of my edits to the article. If you have misgivings, please, as directed above, voice them on the discussion page. Please keep in mind the rules prohibiting edit wars and please allow yourself to be guided by the principle that Wikipedia is not a clique and readers are invited to be bold in improving articles. While I have taken your actions as a good-faith, but misguided, attempt to police Wikipedia, I will report future vigilantism to Wikipedia administrators. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.212.175.119 (talk) 23:48, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

I search through three search engines before reverting the edit (Google, Yahoo, and Ask), and none verified the data. It always pays to find a
WP:RS before adding data that could be could be thought to be incorrect. The Talk Page tells me nothing - it's blank, and you are an anonymous user, you could be anywhere.  Ronhjones  (Talk)
23:54, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
I find that difficult to believe considering on the first page of Google search results there is an urban dictionary (a source appropriate for a slangy nickname for the area) definition of "Blo-No" as "Nickname for Bloomington-Normal, the location of Illinois State University (Normal) and Illinois Wesleyan (Bloomington) as well as Heartland CC." (See http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=blo%20no). Notably, that definition dates back to December 2006, so unless you think there is a two-and-a-half year conspiracy to vandalize a Wikipedia page about a small town in Central Illinois, I think you ought to rely on it. This is why it is important to be mindful of the limitations of your own knowledge before accusing people of vandalism. There are more things on heaven and earth, Horatio..... 98.212.175.119 (talk) 00:05, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Sadly Google only puts that up if you have the quotes (I didn't have). Maybe you could have added the reference and every body would have been happy.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:11, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

MP5

Hello,

I'm trying to make an edit to a search for MP5. Currently, I believe the cluBot is redirecting MP5 searches to "Heckler & Koch MP5", which is a page detailing about Heckler & Koch's MP5. This suggests that Heckler & Koch is the only maker of the MP5 to no end.

I would like to create a page for the generic term MP5 that is commonly understood as an certain type of Automatic Submachine Gun. I hope there is a way for wiki's administrators and editors to cease the prevention that is put upon me from explaining these details. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cropcircles619 (talkcontribs) 22:41, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Cluebot only reverts blanked pages, someone else created it earlier.
You have a choice...
1 Edit the
template:otheruses at the top of the page to direct users to the Heckler & Koch MP5
if it is what they might want.
2 If you think that most would want the
MP5. Hope that helps  Ronhjones  (Talk)
22:56, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
This editor is a vandal, he keeps logging into new IP addresses (and now an account) and trying to swap the MP5 redirect with the Heckler & Koch MP5 page. Heckler & Koch designed the MP5 and other versions are manufactured by license or are unauthorized knockoffs. There is no reason to swap the pages. Some guy (talk) 01:43, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
I did wonder, but one has to
WP:AGF. I'm no expert in firearms. If I see the Heckler & Koch MP5 page suddenly appear under MP5, then it will just get reverted as expected. As I've reverted once, it's now in my watchlist.  Ronhjones  (Talk)

BLPN: Katharine Isabelle

Hello, I already made comments at WP:BLPN about the article Katharine Isabelle. This article was suppose to be at WP:BLPN that I already made and a user already removed it and put it's archive. So I will put it's real date of birth from another website called Katharine Isabelle UK to be sourced soon and I know how to put citing sources and references. Also Internet Movie Database is not the source for it's information so I don't want IMDb. Anyways, I will put it's source from another website for the date of birth to be sourced and the website Katharine Isabelle features it's bio. I already put comments at Katharine Isabelle's talk page is located above entitled, Date of birth and you will see my comments there. Also, after I put it's date of birth to be sourced from another website. Keep an eye out for the user would get to remove it's date of birth with already it's sources, so keep an eye out for the article Katharine Isabelle. Thanks for the comments and I might be nervous on removing it's date of birth by the user. And I will put it's date of birth to be sourced from a website soon. 1. You should have explained (in the edit summary) that your are the template creator and have changed your name
  2. It is not necessary blank the page when using the "db-self" template - blanking often looks like vandalism
  3. Other user(s) are using your template ([1]). I would think it would be best to ask them to remove the link or copy the template for their own use before deleting the template, otherwise their pages will suddenly show a red link and they won't know why.

Presbitero Maestro

Hi, my name is Bruno Ysla, i found a message from you about a recent edit i made to the "Presbitero Maestro" article. Well, I had lived in Lima, Peru, all my life and I know 100% that that is not the "Panteon de los Proceres" is the "Cripta de los heroes". I was there and is the history of my country. The "Cripta de los heroes" is a homage to the Peruvian heros of the 1879-1883 Pacific War between Peru, Bolivia and Chile. The "Panteon de los proceres" is real but is in another place (Parque Universitario, near the meeting place of the Peruvian Congress). The term "Prócer" in Spanish means "independence hero" so is imposible that the monument in the Presbitero Maestro was the "Panteon de los proceres" because the Peru's independence time was between 1780 and 1824; if you do a close look to the picture of what you call the "Panteon de los proceres" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PICT3551.JPG) you could see this phrase: LA NACION A SUS DEFENSORES EN LA GUERRA DE 1879. The last number it doesn't clear but the previous number is a 7 not a 2. If you don't believe, do a search in images google and see. Anyway, the article without my correction is telling a lie about the history of my country.

Best regards

Bruno —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.121.183.163 (talk) 17:17, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

It is not sensible to have a picture caption that is not in line with the data on the main picture page - other editor will undoubtedly see that and revert the Presbitero Maestro page. GGC Link

Hi -- Hoping you can help me with this. I'm actually a professor at Georgia Gwinnett College and we'd link to include the link to the students' video on the page. It's not spam. Thanks, too, for the advice regarding the copyright, but this is ours (created by GGC faculty and students) so no issues there. Any way to keep it up there without having the bots continually delete it? Since we really are a college for the 21st century, elements like YouTube fit our ethos. Thanks for any help/advice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.43.124.236 (talk) 22:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I did not revert it, User:XLinkBot did that (it works off a pattern matching list of links to automatically revert) - I just left you an advisory note. There are so many copyright issues with most YouTube videos that they are nearly always removed. Your two best options are...
  1. Upload video to your college server, and link to that.
  2. Upload video to Wikipedia, and link to that one.
The second option is the better one, but is a little more tricky...
  • The video needs to be in Theroa OGG format (that's the only true "free" format - Media Coder is good for conversions - I used it on Arnside)
  • IIRC Only
    autoconfirmed
    users can upload files.

Émile Chartier

It must be because the blogger has made the same mistake. Here's a picture of the atheist Chartier (born 1868, a.k.a. 'Alain') [2] And here's a later picture of the French-Canadian Émile Chartier, the priest (born 1876). [3]. The earlier photo (which was on the page I edited) appears here [4], the Canadian-French Catholic Association.

Even if one were to claim that photo 1 is more like photo 3 than photo 2, you would also have to explain why Alain, known to be an atheist humanist philosopher, would be wearing a clerical collar in a photograph. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.111.241.130 (talk) 20:32, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

It was not reverted. If a page is blanked by the major author then most editors will put an A7 CSD template on it - don't leave it blank if you want to keep it ready.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:10, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

ok then. wat i had tried didnt work. i made a double template on the subjectthe only difference is a full stop at the end of c and i am trying to delete the one without the dot. do u know how i can sort this out? Swanseajack4life (talk) 23:13, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Have a read at
WP:CSD - just add the appropriate template to the top of the page - if you are the major contributor then use the template on Template:Db-g7. Some time later and admin will delete the page for you.  Ronhjones  (Talk)

I appreciate the vigilance you have shown with regard to vandalism. However, the edit I have made is not vandalism. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you still consider it to be vandalism. I will revert in good faith. --86.12.24.209 (talk) 22:40, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I suggest you re-read your edits. occupation = Mangetout looks like vandalism to most people.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:44, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
I beg your pardon! lol It seems we've both been in error. The addition of mangetout was made before my edit. I think the first person to revert my edit put the correct occupation in and I changed it back unthinkingly... I didn't think about the word mangetout, embarrassingly! I shall restore my edits (and my removal of the hidden white text vandalism), WITHOUT restoring the incorrect occupation, and hopefully that will be that! My apologies for the misunderstanding. --86.12.24.209 (talk) 22:50, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Why? Is there a guideline? --Leyo 23:03, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Do you mean
MOS:DABRL
? Disambiguation pages are not Articles. The "ideal" disambiguation pages is a list of two or more items, each with a single blue link, which helps the user to find the proper Article page (s)he wants.
The ideal one maybe. Ideally, European chemical Substances Information System would already exist on en-WP. On de-WP, there are hundreds of links to European chemical Substances Information System. --Leyo 23:27, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
But nothing on en-WP even links to the non existent European chemical Substances Information System page, (except this page now!) - check Special:WhatLinksHere/European chemical Substances Information System, also that red link had been in place for a year. You know what us Brits are like - we are not that interested in Europe (unless forced)! Also for what it's worth, I'm an industrial chemist, and I've not heard of it.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:36, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
That's your fault, see Special:LinkSearch/http://ecb.jrc.ec.europa.eu/esis. :-) --Leyo 23:53, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Nothing is ever deleted from a live article - everything is there in the history, just click the History Tab and find the one you want, you can then select edit and copy the old data so that you can paste it into the current page. The old page you want can be seen at [[5]], but it cannot be left live until the reference is obtained.

Not easy to describe in words! Cyclohexane rings cannot be flat, so they exist in one of 2 conformers - chair or boat, the chair is a lower energy system (unless there are many groups attached forcing that shape) - see also Cyclohexane and pic below - it's shape is roughly a chair.

Calcium gluconate

Thanks for the nice new SVG structure at calcium gluconate. I've put it in the appropriate category on Commons.

One thing needs attention: the negative charges on the gluconate ions are missing so pale that you can barely see them!

Ben (talk) 14:22, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I did notice, and I have been playing around with Isis and Scribus to see if there is an easy answer - in the end I think it will be an Inkscape tweak - the "bars" are just a single bar in Svg, so one can fairly easily adjust the width without upsetting the rest of the drawing. Question! - how wide? Inkscape put it as 0.125 thick - compared to the width of a single bond at 0.750. Should I make it the same, or a wee bit less - say 0.500 (4 x thicker than original). I've the same problem to fix with Calcium diglutamate.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:25, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Same thickness as the lettering and the bonds, I guess. As long as it's legible.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Ben (talk) 20:12, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Changed to 0.75px thick - I think that will do.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:21, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Football player heights

Hi. Thanks for your help with reverting unreferenced changes to football player heights. I recently posted about this problem here. Correct. It does work with Firefox 3 (not sure about 3.5 yet - haven't got round to upgrade), and since I changed to Firefox (to use Twinkle), I have grown more and more fond of it. Defying Gravity (song)

My 'test' edit

The word I changed was a misused word. Crescendo means a build up to a climax, not the climax itself. The song does not end on a cliffhanger as it were it ends on big booming chords. Easy Goer

This article previously contained several "rosy" terms, subjective reasoning, and punctuation errors not appropriate for a Wikipedia article. The present article has been revised so that all rosy terms have been removed, subjective reasoning has been replaced with statements of facts describing the subject, and punctuation errors and run-on sentences improved by a re-organized page. Those editors who have attempted to revert the article back to a previous version have been advised to consult with the discussion page for guidance on editing, but have refused to do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxsmart10 (talkcontribs) 23:39, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Easy Goer......This page stated facts on fastest running times with the horses who ran the faster times in the races provided(Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Devil's Bag, Tri Jet, General Assembly) Take a look at the Sunday Silence article and you will see. And also, on the Belmont Stakes article, it says the Belmont Stakes is known as the "test of the champion." Also, providing what his progeny did on the race track are facts. The rosy terms are not rosy, they are simply stating that the margin of victory was a large margin and surprising. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Textwiki132 (talkcontribs) 23:46, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

I see your nomination for speedy deletion of the category listing showing the various agencies that represent this profession worldwide. I also understand that you purport that the substantial content was of YOUR authorship and that qualifies you to recommend its deletion? May I inquire as to your qualifications regarding the subject matter? As I was the founder of the World Governing Body for Sports Chiropractic, and have been involved in all aspects of its development around the planet since 1978, and have never had the pleasure of making your acquaintance.

Sorry, I made a small error...
  1. You may note I removed the speedy some 8 minutes before your message here
  2. I never claimed authourship - the message you saw was Tagging page for speedy deletion, blanked or requested by creator (HG), which is a standard message generated by
    Wikipedia:SD#G7
    speedy template.
  3. I saw that the page was created by "Drsjpdc" and then blanked some 5 hours later by the same user, thus I called up the G7 template routine, assuming it was not required anymore.
  4. I later realized the error - in that a Category page can be blank and still work, so I tidied it up.
Hope that helps.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:34, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Ethanol

Hello. I rewrote Ethanol and added a reference point. Hope it works. Aptak (talk) 22:52, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

OK, I'd like to know what water solubility has to do with pipeline transport.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:54, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

That is a very good question! Water and water vapors are present in modern fuel pipelines in minor quantities. Ethanol attracts water. If you attempt to transport ethanol over long enough distances, you end up having a cocktail of ethanol and water at the end of the pipe - a mixture that cannot be used as fuel, unless you separate the two substances. It is a well known phenomenon, and a big problem for the ethanol industry. Aptak (talk) 23:08, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

The page title is Colonial Masses, therefore the infobox has to agree. If you are sure that the article is incorrect then you must request deletion of the page by adding the appropriate
WP:CSD to the top of the article. I would suggest a {{db-g3}} in that case. Then the merits (or not) can be discussed on the talk page.  Ronhjones  (Talk)

Hi there RONHJONES, VASCO here,

Ty very much for your assistance in dealing with this poor excuse for an editor (as seen here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Julio_Salinas&action=history); i reported him once and he did not like it one bit. Since, he tends to edit - with a seemingly neverending supply of IPs - in articles in which i worked in mere hours/days before, writing all kind of lies/foul language. Charming...

Thanks once again, have a nice weekend from Portugal (will this "user" also vandalize this message? He could),

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 14:45, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the feedback. Always happy to assist in reverting bad edits. Sadly that IP is owned by "Tiscali (UK)" who I know do use dynamic addressing, so every time time they log on - they get a new IP number.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:34, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Could you have a look at the recent edits to this article. I do not want to get to the "three edits and you're out" stage with User:87.12.240.215 - but I think he/she needs stopping before further rubbish is posted here, or elsewhere. Can you assist ? Thanks,

I see what you mean. I've added it to my watch list. I've added an ISP template to their talk page - the resolved host name would suggest a static address. If so, they may not continue to press their own POV, as they could get too many warnings and get a block.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:45, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

KKCK/NeutralHomer

KKCK is a top 40 station with a recognized modern rock lean to the music mix. I'm adding factual information to clarify the angle of the format. NeutralHomer appears to have a serious problem like this and continues to revert my one sentence edit. The assertion I make is obvious by the station's playlist but I don't cite that as a separate link because the station is already linked to on the page. Please stop undoing a perfectly honest, truthful addition that describes this radio station. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.101.226.27 (talk) 23:15, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

I know nothing about "NeutralHomer" - I saw a non referenced addition - one can always use a named reference to add a duplicate source.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:22, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

No idea. You would need to ask an admin. Certainly that IP address was only used tonight - with some very speedy edits - average of around 3 pages per minute, I would think that's very fast for an IP (don't they still have to fill in a CAPTCHA? - how can one do a sensible edit and fill in the captcha in 20 seconds, I think (s)he must have had all the pages stored locally and pasted the data in one hit.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:30, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Pittsburgh

Ronhjones,

The Talk:Pittsburgh Page was a mess.

Much of the commentary was almost two years old and it lost its potency.

The Pittsburgh Page needs work or as they say in the Burgh needs worked on and I fear the mess would discourage new blood from helping to raise the quality of the article.

Can you please revert and leave my 2008-2009 archive in place?

Botendaddy (talk) 00:38, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

I'll sort it out properly for you with a bot. Then it will never be a mess again. May take a while for the bot to act, will be all done within a day  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:41, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanx bro, I may have been a bit clumsy with it, but I figured if it was archived everyone could gind all of their stuff. I did leave a comment, but I may have zoned on the edit summary, "best of intentions???"

Best Regards, the Botendaddy (talk) 00:43, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

No problems. I've set it to 6 months old and 8 threads minimum. See what that is like, if it needs a tweak to archive a bit more then you can change the parameters in the MiszaBot section I've added, I've set the counter to 4 - that's the archive file that the bot will use, when the page gets to the size limit, it will automatically increase the counter.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:01, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
