WoT Reversions

Hey Sdgjake, after reading the WP:STYLE guide you linked when you reverted my changes I understand why you did, that's cool. However "Critical Reception" and "Wheel of Time Miniseries" should probably also be changed to conform with WP:STYLE. 207.35.115.198 (talk) 19:45, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

Excuse me, but I don't understand. I didn't vandalise anything. And in the Vandalism article of the Wikipedia standards says that any act in good faith, or unknowing putting information not desired by some users is NOT VANDALISM. Now please I would like for to explain what "vandalism" that I have done on the "Talk: Mario" page.--Mr.Mario 192 (talk) 18:23, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I am truly sorry. Thanks for the information. And I'll read more carefully next time. Thank you.--Mr.Mario 192 (talk) 03:01, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - just to let you know that I have noticed and appreciate your dogged reversion of the persistent and pointless fiddling about by one unnamed user to the Sparta article. I want to get the article into really good shape, because right now it's a huge baggy mess of undigested research, and I am keeping an eye on it. Your work on undoing the vandalism has not gone unnoticed, not by me anyway. Cheers. Lexo (talk) 22:19, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

External Link

I cannot remember that I added that link to that page, it was a while back according to the history log. Now I only add links if they convey relevant/usefull information, even so I rarely waste time adding more links to a page. I never intend to add spam or addvertising links to a page. I do not plan to add any links similiar to that one. For future refference, please post me a message closer to the actual event of concern, rather than having it awkwardly result in me not remembering when or what has occured because of my actions. Thanks

Thanks for catching that SDSU edit. I must have misread the RSS feed or something, I thought I was changing it from I to II; in my head when writing the edit summary I was like "ummm, I don't think they won the division I championship...". I suppose I should check my actual diff a bit more closely next time. AlexiusHoratius 19:04, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also if there's any information as far as number of employees or revenue, anything to show that it isn't some dude working out of his garage. It does seem to get an awful lot of hits on google. Panoramas

This one (not yet uploaded) is from the corner of Phillips and 9th, facing west. (Phillips is going from left to right.) It might be interesting to get a current panorama from the same location. (The Wells Fargo building would be on your right-hand side.) The older panorama that had been on the SF article (the one looking south) was from the vicinity of north Dakota Ave., I think. This too would be an interesting current panorama. I'm not sure where these would go, maybe in History of Sioux Falls, South Dakota or something. Even if they weren't in an article, I suppose they would still be interesting to see. AlexiusHoratius 23:42, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Kickback

I didn't vandalize "The Kickback (band)" page. I genuinely put in a request for deletion and therefore followed rules of Wikipedia. I would appreciate not being reported for going by what the website constitutes as accepted. Thank you kindly. 206.176.126.105 (talk) 15:46, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe vandalism was the wrong warning but what you did was nothing short of deceitful and against wiki policy. You readded a prod template after it had already been credibly removed. Then you proceeded to make several edits to that template to make it appear it had been in place for more than a week so as to try and speed up the deletion of the article. That sounds an awful lot like vandalism to me. I could maybe understand if you had post dated back to when the original template was added but it's very clear that was not your intention.sdgjake (talk) 19:55, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah...I accidentally hit a number and didn't know what it did so I tried to readd the original one...Was it the wrong one? What are the numbers in the prod template?
I'm quite new to Wikipedia and I assure you I'm no vandal. 206.176.126.105 (talk) 13:44, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not buying any of it. You readded the prod template. Then you edited it by postdating the date that it was added. Then you went back and re-edited the date so that it looked like the template had been there for more than a week. The only reason to do that would be to push the nomination over the threshold so that it would get deleted right away. Finally, after I removed the template stating that it should not be there, you undid my change and put it back. Like I said before, your actions are clearly deceitful in trying to get this article deleted. Now please stop trying to get this article deleted. Any further actions by you in this area may result in your IP being blocked from editing. Especially considering its history of vandalism.sdgjake (talk) 14:40, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Standing Bear Bridge

Nice photo of the Chief Standing Bear Memorial Bridge. I was planning to get one the next time I was up that way, but you beat me to it. Score one for the South Dakota team...

--Ammodramus (talk) 21:53, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was hoping to try and gat a better profile shot from down by the river on a sand dune or something but I was short on time. The bridge is only a few miles south of my parent's farm so I should be able to find time to do this eventually. I also took a few pictures of Niobrara, Nebraska from the overlook, but since my camera's zoom is limited they aren't the greatest. I've been thinking about uploading them recently. Are there any other places in NE Nebraska that I should look out for next time I make it down that way? I have family in Crofton, Nebraska and usually visit them once or twice a year. sdgjake (talk) 14:23, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's been a tough year for photographing bridges, because it's been so wet. I recently hit a couple on the North Platte; and while ordinarily I could plan to walk out on a sandbar and get a shot from upstream or down, this year there's too much water in the river.
I've been photographing sites on the National Register of Historic Places in Nebraska. There are several in Knox County that I still haven't done, including the Argo Hotel in Crofton. I haven't touched Cedar County yet, and have only hit one spot in Butte County (and a better photo of that site would be good).
I've recently been in touch with User:Frankie Rae, who's interested in work by architect William L. Steele. Among other things, he did Sacred Heart School in Yankton, the Charles Mix County Courthouse in Lake Andes, and the SS. Peter and Paul School, now the Butte Community Historical Museum in Butte, Nebraska. If you're interested in trying to do those, our exchange is at User_talk:Ammodramus#Susan_LaFlesche_Picotte_Hospital_photos_and_more.
I'm also trying to illustrate articles on Nebraska cities and villages. There are about 850 entries in "Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Nebraska", including lots in northeastern Nebraska. Plenty of work to do—and I suspect that the situation in SD is similar. Let me know if there's anything there that I should be looking out for, since I hope to get up around Valentine and Rushville, Nebraska before the year's end.
--Ammodramus (talk) 15:16, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Human Services Center

Your pictures will probably be better than mine. I'd never been to the HSC before, and all I knew about it was what I learned from a quick skim of the article right before I left for Yankton. Furthermore, I had lots of sites to photograph up there, and not a lot of time. I took a quick stroll across the campus, shooting when something photogenic hove into view, then tore off to my next site.
If you know the place at all, you might want to improve my descriptions at Commons; I think I just used something generic like "Buildings at Human Services Center..." If you can give names, dates, and/or architectural styles to the buildings, it'd be a great improvement.

Chicago Spire

Don't revert other editors edits without doing full research. Maybe take a look at the Chicago Spire article before you revert anything. I have added references with one article-reference dating back as early as February 2010, with a recent one dating January 2011. Thankyou

talk) 08:23, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply
]

Hi, sorry if I offended you with the revert. I did in fact go to the article and read the refs about it being cancelled. One just mentioned that the project was cancelled in passing but didn't give any detail at all. The other said that the developer was still trying to figure something out even though it looks like it's over. So going by the article that is actually about the project itself, it still hasn't been officially cancelled. I've been waiting to take the Spire off the upcoming list until there was an official announcement about it. I think it will be cancelled eventually by the way things are going but that would be
speculation. I stand by my revert, but don't care enough to get into this any further. sdgjake (talk) 16:26, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply
]

No I am sorry that I sounded harsh. I added a few more references on the discussion page of the Chicago Spire if you would like to check it out :) sorry for the trouble :)

talk) 00:43, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply
]

Thanks for the calm and rational reply. I read a few of the refs and it looks pretty bad for the Spire. It's sad, I was really looking forward to seeing that thing completed. Maybe some other developer will pick up the project. We'll just have to wait and see. sdgjake (talk) 16:07, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dakota State University

I noticed this change that you apparently made to the Dakota State University page, and was wondering where the tidbit about the motto coming from Helm's Deep came from?

Because as far as I'm aware, it's a Eudora Welty quote. --opellotalk 03:37, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea where the quote came from. Originally it was stated as coming from the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The Helm's Deep reference was vandalism. It was taken out by an anon IP in the diff you cited. I reverted two edits by that anon IP that I thought was vandalism. Apparently I didn't look closely enough, so I accidentally put the Helm's Deep reference back in. It's my mistake that the reference made it back in and I take full responsibility for it. I have now reverted that line all the way back to the original stating it came from Little Bighorn. If you think that is incorrect then by all means change where the line came from. Thank you for pointing this out to me. -- sdgjake (talk) 14:51, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

I can tell you categorically that, IP address or no IP address, that vandalism did not come from me. I don't know anybody by that name, I have never been to that town, nor did I even know there was such an article as List of people from South Dakota until I received this message. I do not vandalize pages; on the contrary, I do what I can to help curtail the vandalism on this site. 173.233.45.243 (talk) 22:21, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of times ISPs will rotate around IP addresses. So most likely what happened is someone vandalized that article from this particular IP address and then the next day the IP Address was assigned to you. It's happened before and it will happen again. The best way to avoid this is to create an account and use that for editing. Anyways, I hope you continue to make constructive edits to Wikipedia whether anonymously or with an account. Cheers! -- sdgjake (talk) 17:00, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey thanks! Same to you too, if a bit belated. I was on vacation all last week and didn't log in at all. I was only on Wikipedia to check a few facts and make my donation to WMF. I saw yours changes to Wikipedia:WikiProject South Dakota/Requested images. I actually have pictures of a few of those things. I was really bad about uploading pictures in 2011. I'm hoping to change that in 2012. I'll really make an effort to at least get some of the more important pictures uploaded soon, like the ones I have from the State Capitol in Pierre. I hope your 2012 is just as good or better than 2011. -- sdgjake (talk) 16:15, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

SDSU Ethanol Plant

Good afternoon. I appreciate your feedback on my revisions to the SDSU article, and would just like to follow up and get your advice on the deletion request that you put in for my photo of the Ethanol Plant. Long story short, I'm working on a project to unearth the history of Ethanol development at SDSU through the school's Journalism department as part of my Master's thesis. Through the course of it, we've discovered that SDSU was the first national university to ever establish an on-campus ethanol plant--exciting news for our university and state.

The photo that I included was given to me by William Gibbon, who took the photo while he was working at the plant as a student under Dr. Middaugh, as part of a huge collection of materials that he bestowed us for this project. I realize that it's a stretch to say that I'm the owner of the photo, but he did give me permission publish it in any materials that I use for the project. Do you know how I would go about proving that I have permission to use it? I am new to this process, but I am sure he would be more than willing to email the appropriate authorities if needbe.

Again, I really appreciate the critiques, and I'm looking forward to working with this group. You've done great work putting SD on the map, and I hope that I can of help in any way possible.

Best,

Nomination of Sencore for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Sencore is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sencore until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Störm (talk) 12:17, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Sencore

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read

the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard

to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Sencore, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See
    Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations
    for more information.
  • It appears to be an unambiguous
section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing
    .

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
