I am completely satisfied with the rating U provided for the Mangalorean Catholics Article. I thought that would get a Start class. B-class is quite good especially for a article completely written by me. Since I am the only one editing the page, what suggestions do you recommend for improving the page.---->>>>Kensplanet (talk) 14:12, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that most of the content for the page were contributed by you only as of now. But the quality of the article needs the deserved appreciation and people like you deserve encouragment. That is why it was given a B-class. Keep up the good work. I suggest you to join

Hi Tinucherian! Thanks for the info on the Portal. In my opinion it would be nice to have the portal for South Asian Christians overall rather than for India alone. Indian Christians share a great deal of history and tradtions with others in the subcontinent. For eg., the tradition of St Thomas in India brings in Gondophares, then the Portuguese missionaries take our history down to Sri Lanka as well as the shared traditions of Tamil Christians in both these countries. I also believe that Chritian topics related to nations like Pakistan and Sri Lanka are not much covered and a portal (or a project) covering all under one umbrella would be nice. Great work done BTW. request for help categorising photos

Dear Tinucherian. I uploaded improved versions of some of the images I had used in

H B Kendall
, and forgot the Category. While the article has the right pictures, I don't know enough about Wikipedia to correct my error and get the upgrades into the category. What I need to find for future photo upgrades is the link to click which does an automatic replacement of an existing photo, with the same description etc., and an option to delete the old copy. Perhaps this option does not exist for fear of abuse and vandalism, but the safeguard would be that an image could be replaced in this way only by the original user who supplied the image in the first place. And does Wikimdia Commons allow re-naming of images? With automatic update in articles using the image. What I have in mind is that I should have used a common first word for all images used in the Kendall article so that they are all together when browsing the category in Wikipedia Commons.

While on this topic, it seems to me that Methodism could do with more sub-categories. Something to cover my history interests like Methodist history pre 1933 so as to distinguish it from modern Methodism. Then in Methodist history, subcategories of Chapels, places and memorabilia, and Early Methodists. Comment, please before I try creating these categories. replying on Methodism project group

Thanks for your comment on my Talk page. (The first time I clicked on the page for the proposal for a Methodism project, it did not link to the subject, and I could not find it listed so I assumed the idea had been dropped through lack of interest.)

My idea is that the Methodism main article would not have exactly the same text as the leads in the satelite articles, as that would be unnecessarily brief. But as I understand it, the concept of the lead is to summarise content and to whet the appetite, so I trust that would work. I have copied my note on the Methodism Talk page to John Carter, and await his reply. (I shall be away for a few days, so may not be able to get to a computer to reply unless perhaps where I shall be staying.) BTW, I have friends I can call upon to do "peer reviews", including Methodist Ministers and "learned scholars" in the Wesley Historical Society. One such has approved my article on Methodist Union (which needs changing to Methodist union if that is simple to do). My next "wish-list" task on Methodism is to do a diagram showing how the different branches etc. of Methodism relate to each other, a bit like I did on [1] Robert of Ramsor (talk) 18:19, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

reply to Tinucherian's letter

Hai Tinu, I read your letter .I am not intending to vandalize the viewpoints of any church or group.I was under the impression that the Jacobite Syrian Church didnot claim for the title 'Catholicose of The East'.The Jacobite Church of India is an

autocephalous
church have the real right to use the titles Catholicose or 'Patriarch'.

The supreme head of the Syrian Jacobite Church is H.H Ignatios Zakka I Iwas. But H.B Baselios Thomas I ,is just a Maphryono,i.e; a subordinate of the Patriach of Antioch. Please also note that the head of the Malankara Catholic (rite) church, alsodo not have the right to use the title of 'Catholicos' as he also comes under the supremacy of Pope ,in the Catholic Hierarchy.I have evidence for this ,as i have a copy of the letter sent by Cardinal Walter Casper,to H.G Philipose Mar Eusabios, stating that the title had not been awarded by the Pope, but was being used by the Major Archbishop himself.

Now, as for the Malankara Syrian Jacobite church,I will give you evidence for the reason why another person under the title of Catholicos was sent to kerala,as the head of the jaobite Syrian church ,by the Patriarch of Antioch. The passage given below is taken from an Antiochian orthodox church site discussion forum.

'Regarding H.B. Thomas 1, . H.G. Mar Eusebius discussed the issues with H.H. Patriarch in 1998 (a photo published in recent book of H.G.), and at that time the Patriarch was agreeing to the opinion of IOC. Four Jacobites bishops accepted the unity (initially it was the Patriarch who encouraged them to stand for unity). All these efforts were sabotaged by H.B. Thomas 1 in 2002. H.B. Thomas 1 went to Damascus and there he threatened the Patriarch that if he is not ordained a Catholicos, he will die there with out consuming food (Satyagraha, which is a form of struggle commonly used in India to achieve goals). Since Syria is ruled by Baath party and any such indicent would affect the Patriarch, H.B. Thomas 1 was ordained with a new title specially created for him, namely 'Catholicos of India'.

I hope you now understood why i created a new page under the title Catholicos of The East.If you think there is some mistake or false statements in this article please do leave a message in my talk page.Arunvroy (talk) 09:37, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Wikiproject Christianity Membership

Hey, the reason I quit this Wikiproject is two-fold. Firstly, I'm undertaking my Victorian Certificate of Education this year and next and so, I won't have much free time to edit Wikipedia. Secondly, although I am a Christian myself, I haven't actually involved in this WikiProject, so my departure won't make much of an impact. WikiProject Christianity

Hi, I wanted to mention that I have put up two pages for assessment on the Anglican WikiProject, but should I also send it towards your guy's way for assessment also? One has been worked on, the other start.

Regarding the Article Malankara Church

I suggest to rename the article title to Church of St.Thomas Christians. Thats the term used most frequently to refer to the ancient church by all denominations and parties. There is nothing wrong in using title as Malankara Church. But we see that Malankara and Malabar Church are used quite interchangely and i suggest to change the title to Church of St.Thomas Chrisitans as more apt usage. I also suggest to make it more focussed some of anceient leaders like Mar Sabor and Prodh, Some of the early metroploticans before Portuguese, Mar Thoma 1, Dinosous and Nidhiry Mani Kathanar etc making it more focussed on the gems.Tarijanel (talk) 17:02, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tarijanel, I am strongly aganist naming Malankara Church to Church of St.Thomas Christians. By simple reason , that it was how the local church in India was known for atleast 16 centuries. It is unquestionably the church that is started by St.Thomas , but Malankara Church will be definitely the right choice of the name of the article. You can redirect Church of St.Thomas Christians to Malankara Church , but not the reverse. The idea of the article is to focus mainly on the 15 centuries before the Portugese arrival. - Tinucherian (talk) 09:24, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1.The reason you stated is the church which exist in Kerala is known as Malankara Church till atleast 16 centuries.

I would apprecite in seeing reference for the same especially from the writings available from 11th century till 17th century. You can quote books and page number. My understanding is the other round.

On your idea on the article, i apprecite the time you spend on the article but the Saint Thomas Christians article has also more or less similar content. My opinion is the objective should be on improving the content and quality of the article rather than creating many articles with the same subject.Tarijanel (talk) 19:47, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The scope of Malankara Church and Saint Thomas Christians is different. Ther idea of Malankara Church article is to capture the Christian church history in Kerala, India till 16th century. It is true the contents now are getting similar but it is just a skeleton . I will work on this on the days to come -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 02:57, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Tinucherian for the invite. At present I guess I will be concentrating mostly on India related Christian entries, although I have done a few Shrines earlier in Europe. With current limited wiki time and loads of other poor articles of the subcontinent, I'm afraid that I won't be doing justice to the project. Thanks for your invite anyways. Assessments

There has been a problem with the christianity project's use of Betacommandbot. You requested that the bot replace all templates with no importance to a default of low. This is counter-productive since an article that might be of very high importance is suddenly ranked as low. Without letting each article being individually assessed, we are sweeping assessments under the rug and they are becoming almost useless. People will think that the assessment is complete and not worry about it anymore when in reality, its just as bad as having an article with an unknown importance. As User:JGHowes noted, on the wikiproject's page, how can we justify the National Council of Churches ranking as low importance? Grk1011 (talk) 02:18, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
