Emanuel re-direct
Hi Zach. You're correct, strictly speaking it should be deleted, but I don't think it's worth making a fuss about if it's a re-direct. Cheers. Jayjg (talk) 23:10, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi there. I saw that you turned this article, formerly a redirect, into a kind of disambiguation page/soft redirect. I think the problems raised by this article require further discussion, and have taken it to AFD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Benjamin M. Emanuel (3rd nomination). Your comments are welcome there. Thanks in advance. Robofish (talk) 23:33, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Template rfd2 stats link fix
Hi Zach425! You just fixed the {{Rfd2}} generation of stats links for multi word redirect titles by replacing {{urlencode}} with {{anchorencode}}, so with Baggy jeans, for example, we went from (stats) to (stats). Unfortunately, with S&P, for example, we went from (stats) to (stats), and nesting the encodings won't work either.
Spaces are more common than ampersands in redirect titles, so I think your change was an improvement, but I don't know how to fully fix it. (That doesn't mean there isn't an easy fix as I am not at all familiar with mediawiki.) -- ToET 10:49, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm... I probably should have done some more testing before making the change. Still, I agree that it's at least an improvement - instead of none of the stats links working, at least some will now work (though it seems all special characters fall into the same category as the ampersand). I'm not very familiar with mediawiki either, so I've posted a request there for the restoration of the old urlencode in some form—it was a relatively recent change that made spaces become plus signs. I'll let you know the result, but if you'd like to experiment with the template in the meantime, I've created a copy on my ]
Looks to be working, but you wrote that you "made that replacement in {{stats.grok.se}} and added this template to {{rfd2}} instead, which gives much cleaner output", but that doesn't seem to have happened. I looks as if the {{stats.grok.se}} has gotten subst-ed into the {{rfd2}} code, making the output far from clean. Have you checked out the resulting code from a {{subst:rfd2}}? Here's one to edit and look at. -- ToET 06:19, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Besides the 10 lines of code, I chose this example to show how stats.grok.se chokes a bit from the quotes. Your link works as well as if we'd typed the title in and ran the query ourselves, but stats.grok.se leaves the title box empty and links to the front page instead of the article. You do still get the stats, at least. -- ToET 06:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, you need to double subst it somehow, so that all that date code gets evaluated. If that can't be done, I don't see that having the date change would be all that bad. -- ToET 07:28, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad you seemed interested in the Jeans/Baggy jeans traffic anomaly. True nerds are blissfully oblivious to their social ineptitude, but had it not been for you pointing out the other blips in the data, I'd have felt that I was carrying on too long in an inappropriate forum. -- ToET 14:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Good point, I've changed it to the month prior. I've also updated {{rfd2m}} and created a brief documentation file for it - hopefully there won't be any bugs.
- As for the traffic anomaly, those are always very interesting. They can be severe time drains for Wikipedian nerds, though... --Zach425 talk/contribs 21:50, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Abuse report for 71.5.70.130
Hi Zach, I just wanted to let you know that I approved the report that you just filed at Abuse Response and it should be investigated shortly. While there appears to only be 4 block notices on the talk page it was actually blocked 6 times (with the most recent being in March for 6 months.
I was also interested in wondering if you had any issues filing the report or thoughts about the filing process/template. We have changed most of the templates used in the reporting process when we started a complete redo of the old Abuse Reports system and so would appreciate any feedback you had. Jamesofur (talk) 16:10, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Just a quick followup on improving abuse response, I have a few questions on your experience.
- 1. Where did you find the IP to report to abuse response?
- 2. How did you know to report it to abuse response? (This is so we can see if most users know to report it to AR)
- Thanks for you help in improving AR! (And Jamesofur, you always get to responding to the new reports faster than I do xP) Netalarmtalk 03:56, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Good questions. In response to 1, I'm typically not one to search for vandalism on the recent changes page (unless I'm bored & looking for a distraction). The most recent act of vandalism by IP 71.5.70.130 was to one of the pages on my watchlist, and in the process of issuing a warning I noticed the recurrent abuse history.
- As for how I knew to report to abuse response, this is actually my second report (the first one being for the WP:Vandalismand followed the instructions to trace the IP address. Upon learning it was a school account in a range with other repetitive vandals, I followed the instruction on the vandalism page, which states: "For repetitive anonymous vandalism, particularly where registered to a school or other kind of responsive ISP, consider listing it on Wikipedia:Abuse response."

They are CSD under "Common Sense" - although these were neither very harmful nor very recent - as much as anything it is cheaper to delete them than to discuss them further. But yes these would have been G6's (though I might have used the wrong delete summary on them). Since they were (alomst?) all created by the same person in a batch a few months back, I doubt it is worth mentioning them in documentation - but I suppose I wouldn't object overly. Guitar Hero: Beatles redirect advice
Hi Zach, what is your opinion on Talk:Guitar Hero#Guitar Hero: Beatles redirect -- any reason to keep? Is a retarget to The Beatles: Rock Band#Promotion too tenuous? Stats on "Guitar Hero Beatles" show 300/mo with another 200/mo or so from the rest (when factoring out the case insensitivity). Of course this gives no indication of how many users were searching for the term versus those who happened to see it in the drop down box when initially looking for something else. I'm not sure if the retarget would be better than a delete. (Stats for the first half of this month must reflect the recent parody video Masem wrote of.) -- ToET 09:52, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Novel template?
I'm not really sure what functionality your changes were meant to add? (Early in the morning, haven't finished my coffee. All I could decipher was that you could omit "num="... And it didn't have the bottom text, but this is already possible using "nt=yes"). In any case, please do this at a new page rather than repurposing my redirect, I'm kinda fond of it. How about {{random ubx}} ? –xenotalk 12:54, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Shustov's edits
The shortest answer is that we generally handle ban evasion by
The somewhat longer answer is that Shustov was banned for (among other problems) a habit of self-promotion. That self-promotion included his professional work (where he is apparently a minor figure in the world of earthquake engineering, and on the basis of which he created an extensive walled garden of articles citing and promoting his own publications and patent-pending minor inventions) and his personal exercise program, "Upstream fitness" (deleted as spam by another admin). I was keeping a record of the cleanup (it's taken a while) at User:TenOfAllTrades/Shustov, but I haven't been updating that page lately.
Because of his conduct, he's banned on (at least) the English and the German Wikipedias. Over the last few months, he's migrated mostly to Commons, where he's created a category full of images of himself doing his exercises. He's spent a significant amount of time adding images to articles and creating links back to his "upstream fitness" category on Commons from over a dozen different language Wikipedias, usually from the articles on gerontology and fitness. The image captions often include reference to his exercise program.
Consequently, I'm extremely hesitant to encourage or allow him to add any material to Wikipedia. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 15:48, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

- Rollback granted. Remember though that rollback should be used to revert blatant vandalism/spam, and that using it in revert-wars or to revert edits you disagree with can lead to its removal...and note that some admins don't even give a warning before removing the right. If you would like to test the tool before using it to revert vandalism, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. That all being said, happy reverting! Acalamari 00:42, 18 November 2009 (UTC)]

Missing info in Pica (disorder)
I realize that this edit was over a year ago, but you added some treatment information to the Pica page and there was a small error I was hoping you could help fix. The following text was part of your addition: "Visual screening, with eyes briefly for a short time after pica is attempted" This sentence is clearly missing a word or two ("eyes covered"? maybe "eyes closed"?). Do you happen to remember what this should say? -- Fyrefly (talk) 19:14, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
