If you leave a message on my talk page next time Wikipedia will notify me and I'll get to it more quickly. Again sorry about that. What was the page about? Can we add the information somewhere else? The Dragon on the Bookshelf

No problem. And thank you for creating the page. If you ever need help with some of the more tedious bits and pieces of a page (category sorting, referencing, templates, etc.) don't hesitate to ask. How did you come across this story? Do you read a lot by Harlan Ellison and Robert Silverberg? I've been trying to add to and improve some of the articles on Harlan Ellison's short stories and collections and would love some help and suggestions. Cheers! Your recent RfA

I'm sorry, but I've closed your Request for adminship prematurely. Simply put, you've only got 176 edits on Wikipedia; while edit count isn't the only determining factor, and numerous people have their own personal standards that they judge RfA candidates by, there was no chance that the RfA was going to pass.

I'm sorry about this, and hope you don't take it personally. If you continue to contribute to the project in a positive fashion, I'm confident that you could possibly run a successful RfA in the future. You may want to consider submitting yourself to Wikipedia:Editor review for feedback on where to get some good experience, and when you're ready for RfA again, there's a great Wikipedia:Admin coaching program for you to use, as well as a guide to requests for adminship.

If you have any other questions about becoming an administrator, please don't hesitate to ask me. Good luck! EVula // talk // // 15:28, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on

criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify
their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that

A tag has been placed on Fledgeling+WikiProject+Small+Engines/Members, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. UWU

Thankyou for your interset in the Union of Wikipedia Users...I was informed that making an account for the purposes of it being a Union, group ex. was against Wiki laws...or something like that. Therefore we are removing the User: U.W.U. page on Monday, October 22nd. However we do plan on having something like an Alliance to ensure accuracy in articles. We (me and User: Greenwood1010) will contact you soon (most likely on friday or monday) Thankyou! --King of Nepal 13:00, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you forming a new group? We can still work togather with out a page1 Rush me info about this new group. Are you taking over the UWU? I resigned as Chairman today...you have to talk to User: Greenwood1010 he is the new chairman. Thanks --King of Nepal 13:38, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is going on?

I am the Chairman of the Union of Wikipedia Users and I go to the uwu page and see that some one is claiming to be in charge of the uwu and says that I am vice-president...of my own group of which i am chairman? Ok then, it all sounds very confusing. One request however, is there anyway that we can stop using the User: UWU page, from what i've heard using a username for somthing like this is against wikipedia's laws. can we move the alliance to another page/link (forgive me I'm not good with "computer talk") Anyhow you seem to know what you are doing. It is just that the user name, User: U.W.U. is one of my personal accounts and I already have one so I'm trying to have it deleted. You seem to know more than I do about how this all works so how about if the WUA is run by a council, but for the most part it only handles judicial type things (expelling members, interviewing those who want to become members ex.) The Chairman (that’s me) will have veto power and overall authority, however the President (you) will be appointed by the Chairman and will handle overall administrative duties (setting up the pages, planning meetings ex.) That is how many companies are run, with a CEO, Chairman, Board of Directors and then an administrative President. Does this sound ok? Anyhow for now it will be me, Chairman, you Vice- Chairman. I have to go in 5 minutes so we will talk tomorrow, around 10 am? Is that ok? Anyhow bye and I look forward to working with you. Hello?

Look when WUA is deleted then we should not repost it...I am opposed to that idea...however we could have a wua in "exile" type thing... by this i mean that we still could get together on one of are disscussions page and talk about articles we edited or whatever and we would have on officla webpage or whatever just wiki friends united in an unoffical group. With a form of gov you know, but no username site or anything like we have now...what do you think--Greenwood1010 13:25, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Idea

How about an Accuracy on the Internet Alliance group. (Now, for all of you who are watching this page...THIS IS NOT A WIKIPROJECT GROUP. I am not trying to start another "movement" So before all of you freak out, I suggest you finish reading this message) I mean that we would go around to different websites (Wikipedia, About.com AND MANY OTHERS) and insure that the info was accurate. Ok? Like, for example we would go to a history website and make sure everyhting was true...get what I am saying? (Now Gp75mot...I know you like wikipedia...but you can't just do wikipedia, you have to do other sites as well...ok?) Anyhow think about. Your friend--Greenwood1010 12:46, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External domain

If you pay the fees for the domain name and hosting, pretty much whatever you want to within the boundaries of the law wherever your site is being hosted. There is all kinds of free software out there to set up forums, etc. Heck you can even download the MediaWiki software and host your own wiki for you and your friends.--Isotope23 talk 16:28, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can do anything you like on your own domain. But... aren't you overthinking this a little bit? I work to improve the quality and accuracy of Wikipedia. I have online friends who help me. I don't need to organize a group to do this, I just... do it. People who have the same goals work with me, and we have a nice social little time while getting useful work done, all without a separate web site or any formal organization. I think you might end up finding that the organization distracts you from the work you want to do, rather than helping you do it- we've had much larger organizations at Wikipedia try what you're doing, and in general, it hasn't worked nearly as well as just getting on with the work of building the encyclopedia. Still, off-wiki, it's entirely up to you, and I wish you success in whatever you end up doing. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 16:34, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Listen

I really do support any conclusion to this matter. However Giove and myself already made an agreement wich he broke within 48 hours (with circa 15 edits). He accepted my proposal for us both to stop editing because of the possible restriction, but went on as per usual. This is just an example, I'm afraid, and I'm skeptical because of this, but will do my best.
Every time there is a historical/ethnic conflict people (not excluding myself sometimes) are prone to irrational conversation and dubious arguments, Giove, however, is beyond all this, he just emakes a dozen edits and "explains" them with an uncompromising sentence or two, the reply to wich he does not answer.

About user PIO. See this : Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_arbitration/Dalmatia#Statement_by_semi-involved_PIO. Also, I think that PIO has a history of certain words against admins on it.wiki (I think Ilario).
Also, user Cherso is a "one-time edit" user. Possibly a sockpuppet of Giove himself, or of his banned collaborant Giorgio Orsini.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. :) Anyway, I deleted Tony Spencer Hawk's user and talk pages because he was an indefinitely blocked user, and his user/talk pages had been in Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages for some time, and pages listed in that category are deleted after a certain amount of time. Dear engineer, we have to be patient: I integrated your text in 'Istrian exodus' but then the Slovene restored that previous version eliminating our contributions. Therefore I've added the (WIKI top banners about) neutrality and sources. Then the user:Ko'oy edited but with a similar version to yours. I suggest we spend some days discussing it on the appropriate page with the Slovene so we can understand his intention. We think that our versions are fine and we can restore them when we want but it is better to try dialogue and understanding now . Thanks Gp75, but I was mostly being trying to be funny. I don't use monobook-related stuff much, but for other reasons than fear (I use many different OS's at the various places I edit from, and things that seem to work in Windows don't on a Mac, and vice versa, and it's a pain to fiddle with it all the time). RE: No prompt

When the Commodore 64 is powered on, the C64's BASIC 2.0 operating system is loaded from from 20 KB of ROM rather them a hard drive, which meant it came on instantly rather then the user seeing any kind of boot screen, if you want add something that you what see when loading a program from a floppy or a tape drive, you could type

Load"*",8
Run

or

Load"aNameOfaProgram",8,1

The comma ,8,1 would autorun with the need to type run, the "*" is a wildcard the would run the first program on the disk called PRG(not .exe) *see

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (computer game) the Zork games, Uridium and Alter Ego (video game). if you typed load"$",8 you would see a directory like in this screen shot anyway one thing you could do is Load"Gp75motorsports",8,1, just an Idea. if you have any non-Wiki questions about computers what be best to ask them @ Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing as they often will know more then I can tell you. cheers, ▪◦▪≡ЅiREX≡Talk 01:29, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply

I swear Metros, like moths to the candle, you are just a magnet for this sort of thing. How do you manage it? ➪HiDrNick! 18:35, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, I apologize. It's not fair that you edited user spaces and Wikipedia spaces without getting blocked. Because of that, I have blocked you for one month. As for BoL, see Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Archive133#Removing_topic_ban_on_Blow_of_Light. Metros (talk) 18:58, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, he's unbanned because "he got it". Well I got it too. I got the idea not to start useless projects or make an overly big deal about vandals too. I got the idea not to MYSPACE too. I got it already. I started all those pages for better organization, not for social heiarchy or MYSPACEing. I stayed away from Wikipedia-space editing. So tell me, what have I not gotten? Except for the UAA edits which Twinkle made. I've already proven I'm not useless. And

please note I do not disagree with the topic ban removal for BoL. --

REV LIMITER 20:46, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]

You didn't quite "get it". You created adoption pages for people who haven't agreed to be adopted by you. Hell, with you being on a topic ban, should you even be adopting others? An adopter is supposed to be an example for the adopted user; I don't think having a topic ban is a good example. Your UAA report was clearly wrong; that's not even close to being promotional. So, no, you don't fully "get it" yet. Metros (talk) 20:53, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, maybe not the UAA thing, but I had explicitly stated permission from an administrator (see above thread) to create that page. AND, add that to the fact that I didn't know Hopiakuta's last edit was a half-month before I posted the thread. If I had known that, I wouldn't have created that page or the adoption directory in the first place. And from now on, I'll stay away from UAA because I violated not only community terms, but my own terms (which are to not do anything unless I know it's against username rules). That makes me doubly pissed, and having you pissed at me doesn't help. I've learned. --
REV LIMITER 21:04, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]
Was the other administrator aware of your ban? Looking at
your conversation, there was no question of you as to whether it was okay for you to do it despite your ban. The only permission I see that you received was to copy parts of his subpages. You never said "hey, I know I have a topic ban but..." You never received permission to edit outside your topic ban. Metros (talk) 21:10, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]
I honestly have no idea. But you still have to applaude me for having the responsibility to ask and make the fact that I was going to do it public instead of going behind your back to do it. I could've done that, but I didn't want to. --
REV LIMITER 21:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]
Once again, I reiterate that the only thing you asked was to copy his adoption subpages. You never asked to adopt despite your ban. Stop applauding yourself for what you didn't do. Metros (talk) 21:19, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I didn't want to copy his subpages. I'd be a thief if I did that. --

REV LIMITER 21:24, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]

Okay, but still, in no way did you ask to go around your topic ban. The way your question is worded appears to sinply be a general query about whether that's allowed (for any user) or a good idea (for any user). You never explicitly ask if you can go around your topic ban. Hersfold's response appears to have no knowledge of the topic ban within it. He clearly answered it as a general query and not a "can I go around the topic ban?" question. Metros (talk) 21:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
At the time I thought Hersfold knew. But I was wrong. Can't I be accidentally wrong without getting blocked?
Your "accidents" occur too frequently. You "accidentally" report a user for a non-violation of policy to UAA. You "accidentally" adopt a user when the user hasn't accepted your adoption offer. When the user hasn't edited since a week before your offer. When another user offered adoption the previous day to the user. You "accidentally" assume that everyone knows about your topic ban and "accidentally" assert that you had explicit permission to break your topic ban. That's a lot of "accidents" here. Metros (talk) 21:49, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't "accidentally" report a user. I didn't "accidentally" adopt a user. I didn't "accidentally" assert anything. I don't do accidents. I do what I interperet as right and what I interperet as inside the rules. Which is what any human with any level of self-esteem would do. --

okay, cool. If you keep editing outside the rules, then we have to keep you blocked. Your interpretations of what is inside the rules are clearly wrong and outside the rules. Because why the hell do I care that you sliced your finger? Additionally, you posted it on top of your user talk page. So I could have seen it there. There was also nothing to respond to: no question asked, no request of any kind. Metros (talk) 13:31, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And when someone like Riana or Newyorkbrad gets hurt, three million people plague the user's page with cookies and "get well soon" cards. But peole like me, on the other hand, get things like "why the hell do I care?" Is there some reason the community treats some editors more humanly or something? --
REV LIMITER 13:54, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]

What'd you want? A card signed by everyone saying "We hope that you have a speedy recovery so that you can return soon as a non-productive editor who proves again and again why he is on a topic ban"? The reason you're not getting piles upon piles of "get well soon" notices is that you haven't earned the respect of other users. Metros (talk) 14:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You do realize that your next block is going to be fairly long, right? Probably in the 3-6 months to a year to possibly indefinite range. So when that block expires, you better become a productive user who doesn't have all these "accidents" and "mistakes" that you keep experiencing. Metros (talk) 14:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GP, can you possibly explain what you are hoping to accomplish here? Prior to your topic ban, your sole purpose was to give an obvious troll the attention he wanted. Since then, instead of contributing to the encyclopedia, you have gone out of your way to get blocked. You've pushed the limits of your topic ban and played the victim time and time again. I've even defended you... foolishly. Enough. Stop begging for attention and contribute. If you don't want to contribute, retire or get banned. Simple. AniMate 15:00, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want the respect of the community at large, earn it. People like Riana and Newyorkbrad have dedicated themselves to working on many, many different areas of the project (as well as working across some of the other WMF projects), and as such, people have respect for them. EVula // talk // // 15:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, Metros, all I want is for this god-damned shame of a non-supportive community to stop treating me and others like me as a user and start treating me as a human. You, for exaple, haven't tried to help me, and instead treated me as a broken bot. Here's an idea: why don't you do your administrative duty and HELP users in need? --
REV LIMITER 16:03, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]
The "duty" of an administrator is to protect the encyclopedia from damage. Dozens have tried to help you, but you resist help and just cause further damage. So if that requires you being blocked to prevent further damage, then that's what needs to be done. Metros (talk) 16:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Gp - use the time of your block to get away from Wikipedia and find another interim hobby. No one, Metros or anyone else, is responsible for helping you conform to policy. It your responsibility, and no one elses, to prove to the community that you can be a constructive member. So far, at least in the eyes of a number of people, you haven't done that. No one is attacking you for who you are or anything like that - you have been criticized, restricted and blocked solely because of your failure to demonstrate that you can valuably contribute without causing disruption.
T 16:11, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]
The community is very supportive of the members that are productive and contribute to both the community and the project; see again the examples of Riana or Newyorkbrad. However, of your positive contributions, most of them are negated by the amount of drama that is usually entailed. Put your nose to the grindstone at work (within the bounds of your topic ban) and people will respect you more. That's the only recipe for this ending well. EVula // talk // // 16:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Metros, I don't know how the hell you earned the trust of the community, but apparently that trust is wrong. No one is safe on your watch. --

I will ask you to refrain from making personal attacks, in light of the comment above. Commenting in that manner will lead to an extended block. It's almost as if this thread was created to disrupt the community further. Rudget (Help?) 16:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

REV LIMITER 16:52, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply

Well, I can’t claim to be an expert on the fine art of Wikipedia editing. But here are some things that I learned from relatively brief time here.

1. Articles don’t write themselves. They begin with a single person, usually sitting alone somewhere, who thinks he is creating something special that the world will appreciate. Always remember that there is a person who created the article. That will save you a lot of grief down the road.

2. Some people get very attached to their articles. Almost obsessively. When you edit someone else’s article, you may feel that you are improving it. But the person who created the article may feel you are ruining their work. This can create fights.

3. There is no one be-all/end-all way to write and edit an article. Yes, Wikipedia requires certain ways to reference footnotes, but that’s another matter. The actual art of creating and writing is highly subjective. You may look at a subject one way, I will look at it another, and a third guy will have an opinion that contradicts both of us. Go figure.

4. Everyone can and will make mistakes in writing and editing. That’s why pencils have erasers and Wikipedia has the “undo” function. Remember that no one makes intentional mistakes, so don’t be cruel and nasty if someone goofs up (and that message goes to some other people who may be reading this, by the way!).

5. If you are in doubt, share your work with others and ask for feedback. While some people around here may seem rude, there are a lot of nice people on Wikipedia. I’ve met some and I can help make introductions. And always surround yourself with positive people – stay away from losers who cannot say anything nice to you!

6. Don’t worry about the quantity of edits you have. Focus on the quality of your work. Time is your ally.

7. Enjoy what you are doing here. If you find yourself getting upset or having fights with people, something’s not working. When that happens, turn off the computer, give yourself a rest, then come back later.

Now, I don’t know anything about your editing or your approach to Wikipedia articles. If you have the time and interest, you can do me a big favor. My pal Magnewatan is trying to clean up an article. It is over here: [7]. If you’d like to work with us, here is what you can do: copy the article off Wikipedia, save it as a Word document. Edit it as you believe it needs to be edited. Then e-mail your Word document to me. Let me look at it, and I can report back. How does that sound?

Thanks!

Advice

I'm quite sorry you hurt your hand and I'm sorry that someone from your school is harassing you. Neither of these things, however, have anything to do with your current block. You seem to desperately want someone (mostly Metros) to help you. He has. You were an unproductive contributor focused solely on one vandal. So Metros and the community gave you and Blow of Light some strict guidelines to help you edit productively. BoL (for the most part) followed the guidelines set out for him and is free from editing restrictions. You are not. You seem extremely uninterested in actually editing the encyclopedia. In fact, of your 1900 or so edits, only 311 are actual edits to articles. Now, you should know, I'm giving you this advice because I want to. It's not my job to guide you anymore than it is Metros'. That's something you seem very confused about. While some administrators are natural nurturers, it isn't a requirement. They have a mop (in the form of extra buttons) to help clean up and protect the encyclopedia. They are not your teachers, they are not guidance counselors, they are not mentors. If that's what you want, I'm sure any of the people watching this page would be happy to put you

up for adoption
. It's not just for newbies.

Still, all of this begs the question: Why are you here? Looking over your history, it seems to be that you enjoy the dramatic, community aspects of Wikipedia but don't really care for contributing to the mainspace. That's problematic, as your contributions to the "meta" side of things aren't helpful either. So, why are you here? And, what do you want?

Personally, it looks to me like you're after acceptance by the Wikipedia community. That only comes from meaningful mainspace contributions or insightful contributions to the meta/policy side of things. If I'm right about your motivations, and I suspect that I am, can I suggest that another venue might be appropriate for the kind of interactions you're looking for. Here's a

number of MMORPGs
that have community interaction, collaboration, and the drama that pops up on Wikipedia so often.

I'm not telling you to retire or anything, but I do think these options might be better if what you're really looking for is simply community acceptance and personal interaction. These are just my opinions/late night thoughts. I'd consider listening, as something here has to change. AniMate 08:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, something is going to change. Let's try to harness some of that energy and enthusiasm into a worthwhile project? Which leads us to our next topic for GP75...

talk) 11:29, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply

I still really want you to think about what I've said. Article writing and copyediting haven't been things you've been very keen on in the past, and there are other virtual communities out there where you might find the types of interactions you seem to be looking for. Obviously, you are not going to be able to post it at this point, but we can start by having you research and write the article offline, and then we can hold it until your full editing rights are resumed. At that point, we can bring the article here. If that works for you, let me know and I will point you to the various sources that feature my friend. If it all works out, and the article gets online, I'll patch you through to her (and you can be the first guy in your school to have a Playboy model as your fan).
