Burj, -al

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's ). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget due to no consensus for the status quo. Opinions are about reasonably split between retargetting to Burj and deletion, and the arguments for both options are equally compelling. It's been relisted once without further input so I don't think it's worth prolonging this further. Normally in this situation I'd simply call it no consensus and move on, but that defaults to keep which is the one action nobody wants, so instead I'm going to call this "no consensus" but retarget it as this is a lesser action than deletion. Thryduulf (talk) 18:57, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know where this comes from or if it's a likely search term. — Gorthian (talk) 22:50, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • I see that I created it with the line "getting rid of red link"....but I cannot recall where that red link was,Huldra (talk) 22:54, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I know, I couldn't figure that out, either. Sorry you can't remember; I was curious! But six years of editing will do that. Thanks. — Gorthian (talk) 22:59, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Actually, I went and looked through my edits at the time...and it has to do with my User:Huldra/Morris-list: look at village #236, Morris refer to that as "Burj, -al" (see Morris, 2004, p. xix village #236). So the redir is wrong, it should go to Al-Burj, Ramle! Huldra (talk) 23:07, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oh, so it's a form of sorting for different villages? How is it used? — Gorthian (talk) 23:22, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't know what you mean with sorting in this context? ....but Burj is a relatively common name in the Middle East, and such names have a tendency to get mixed up. (Just look at Talk:Tira, Israel for mix-ups of the Tira-places, or Talk:Hadatha for ditto, on the Hadata-places) Huldra (talk) 23:30, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • (I refactored our comments with bullets to make them easier to read.) The problem is, this redirect could apply to many titles on Wikipedia. In the form it is, it won't get used as a link in an article, nor is it a helpful search term because of the odd punctuation. I thought it was perhaps for sorting in a category, like some name pages are (lastname, firstname is a common redirect for name lists). — Gorthian (talk) 23:44, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, basically it was a redir made because Morris uses that specific spelling on his lists of villages, Huldra (talk) 23:47, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is it intended to be "Burj, al-", like "Tower, The"? --BDD (talk) 22:22, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. If this indeed involves both inverting the term "al-Burj" and misplacing the hyphen, it's a pretty unlikely search term. Could the hyphen have ended up there due to confusion with Arabic, which is right-to-left? Perhaps, but unless this type of error is systematic, I'm not comfortable keeping this kind of thing. --BDD (talk) 22:58, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Keep - Though I don't feel strongly about this either way, it seems useful enough. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 03:39, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. It's true that not everything requires CamelCase, being unnecessary is not a reason to delete a redirect. In this case it's harmless, unambiguous, used and deletion would bring no benefits - all reasons to keep. Thryduulf (talk) 14:08, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to try to get consensus on what we do with these ones with "o tilde" on them instead of "o double acute". They could kept as {{

Land Registry")/ I can't really imagine why a Hungarian website would make this substitution but perhaps there was a "technical limitation" as seemed to prevent "o double acute" in Wikipedia in the early days (see ES of 2005 edit to Gödöllo): "Gödöllo moved to Gödöllő: preventing technical limitations don't exist any more").
