Same edits, adding category:German inventions to many articles over previous consensus. Same interest in same-sex marriage and clergy in Germany. Same location, Oldenburg, Germany. Same old Europefan. Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:22, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • My opinion on letting bygones be and giving Europefan a fresh start has always been that he should at least say that he intends to follow the same basic rules as everybody else. Instead he has explicitly asserted his right to edit as he pleases, and ignore consensus. He was rangeblocked from de.wikipedia for the same reasons: he insists on dubious edits, with dubious sources (primarily German nationalist pov propaganda) and if anybody tried to stop him he just laughs and says he'll get a new dynamic IP and carry on. Along with edit summaries and talk page comments calling everyone who disagrees with him "British bastards". --Dennis Bratland (talk) 18:58, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: @Dennis Bratland: In order to facilitate and expedite your request, please provide diffs to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. Vanjagenije (talk) 00:24, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • information Administrator note I'd say it's probably Europefan. Same ISP in northwest Germany, and a strong preference for categorizing articles as "inventions" whether appropriate or not; ballet hardly qualifies as "device, method, composition or process" just like general relativity doesn't. On the other hand, the style has become somewhat less disruptive, compared to for instance this saturation bombing, and the national preference seems to have diversified to include Italian as well as German. I think I'll watch'em for a bit before swinging the ban hammer. Favonian (talk) 16:51, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Evidence: Europefan is the only person who obsessively adds Category:German inventions to this same set of articles. Europefan is located in Oldenberg, Germany and uses dynamic IPs from there, or near there. Europfan has repeatedly posted the same drivel that anyone who stops his disruptive editing is a "British nationalist" regardless of whether they are in any way British. These edits are instantly recognizable because he has been compulsively repeating the same, exact actions for two years. He's been blocked on German Wikipedia for the same disruption: de:Wikipedia:Schiedsgericht/Anfragen/GLGermann. @Agathoclea: is a German-speaking Admin who you could hit up for full history on this case. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:35, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is the third new account he's created today to repeat the same edits. Can certain actions by new accounts, or anonymous IPs, from a certain IP range be blocked (or held as pending changes)? I.e. adding Category:German inventions to any of the ~100 articles he always adds this category if the account is from any of the known IP ranges he edits from? It seems like if we can recognize this guy on sight we ought to be able to write a script that recognizes him on sight. Dennis Bratland (talk) 01:32, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We should not allow Europefan to dictate content. But at the same time, nor should we let a dogmatic DENY influence content either. This seems like a credible topic (although a poor article) The encyclopedia is better (slightly) for having it.

I added some more who were making edits in pretty much exactly the same way. All created from 8-12 February. The names are somewhat similar as well, and they include the same number sequences, too. Since there appear to be a large number of these guys, I'm requesting CU to root out any further socks... since EF is apparently proficient in getting away with this sort of thing. There are the two characteristics: Tagging and year-editing. 5635 and 7574 are having fun tagging, although this is not the typical category of German invention. Siro is interested in lgbt issues, a real hallmark. Fred and strimp are both editing heavily in the years area. What's odd is that the users were using many different countries, some Germanic but not all of them actually European. I don't know if EF was known to do this. Even so, the behavioral pattern is so typical of EF and so idiosyncratic that I'm confident. I would be interested in hearing what @Oshwah and Berean Hunter: think. GABHello! 18:53, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi GAB - I got your ping. I'll be more than happy to take a look at something and assist with anything you need. It looks like you're trying to see if there are similarities with edits, style, articles, etc. to link any of the accounts in the "technically indistinguishable" list to those in the "confirmed" list? If that's the case, I'll see what I can find. Please let me know if my assumption is correct. He is beginning to create socks which look more differentiated so that when he gets ready to use them in tandem to support each other they wouldn't appear as obvious as his previous accounts. He is watching this report so he is trying to shift to avoid being detected so easily. Tagging and other new behavior are just to build a history for the accounts in my opinion. @Bbb23: were rangeblocks put in place to thwart him as discussed in the ANI thread? That let's us know whether other countermeasures may be necessary in the future.

Duck on 2016 in Germany: A CU-confirmed sock made the edit once, I revert, then suspect made it again. Requesting CU to look for sleepers, as he typically hits a very large number of "[year] in Germany" (and other) articles and creates substantial numbers of accounts at a time. For example, the last grouping of SPIs netted 7 named accounts alone. GABHello! 15:59, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As usual, obsessive edits to "[year] in Germany" articles, which previous socks swarm to. A brief sampling: [9][10][11][12][13]. Also adding the "German inventions" category everywhere: [14][15][16][17][18]. The weird username is pretty much in the same format as many other previous socks. For the purposes of comparison, take a look at CU-confirmed sock Frwaerfwe. Requesting CU for sleepers, since there are sometimes a considerable number of them (last two checks turned up 7 together). @Mike V and Bbb23: The sockfarm discovered on April 16 was Filipz123; the behavior is different in many ways, most noticeably usernames. • Re: diffs. Sro23 commented below "Identical behavior to recently blocked Europefan socks", which is something anyone familiar with Europefan would say. But what is the pattern? It is all of the sock's edits. Why provide diffs when the list of diffs is equivalent to the whole of the contributions list? Sock after sock after sock, they all do exactly the same thing. Well, there's two patterns. One is the IP addresses located in the same general region of Germany. These edits are additions to years pages, or adding categories. Europefan only registered an account when he wants to create a new article. The pattern is: first edit is a new article, subsequent edits are similar to IP edits, often with more new articles until blocked. In any case, the diffs are all 20 to 100 edits of each IP or account, which correspond to the 20-100 edits of any other previous sock.
  • Stale accounts: there has been pushback for reverting edits by Europefan's old socks, dating back years. There are dozens and dozens of them, affecting hundreds of pages. Most of which are 'years in Germany', or bios of Germans. Checkuser verification adds legitimacy to these reverts. Without it, the old edits are often kept. Yet because the socks have been inactive for some time, superseded by dozens of other socks, they aren't proper subjects for SPI. Why shouldn't we use what tools we have to verify whether these stale IPs and accounts are or are not Europefan, and then use that information to decide what action to take about those edits and articles created?

It's important to realize that Europegan is attempting to overwhelm our ability to respond with his sheer volume of activity. Ignoring 'stale' socks encourages this behavior. If we can successfully remove his old work, even if it is years and years old, it will discourage him. His pattern of reverting deletions of his work demonstrates that he cares about whether or not his old content is kept or deleted. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 05:26, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Andy Dingley: @Favonian: I don't pretend to know all the answers here. I'm attempting to do my part for a communal effort to deal with this long term disruption by someone who clearly has nothing better to do (nothing, at all, likely due to supervillian status and residence in Arkham Asylum with a reliable vodafone DSL connection). --Dennis Bratland (talk) 05:28, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • The IP's are all either blocked or inactive, and the two user accounts are stale. Dennis Bratland and Andy Dingley, if you want to add more sock suspects, instead of opening new cases with Twinkle, add them to the already open case so as not to create more unnecessary work for clerks. Sorry, it's just that the username is similar. A lot of sockpuppets and LTAs use similar usernames to their original account (which kind of easily gives them away). For example, BMX on WheeIs uses a lot of usernames that have phrases like Fuerdai, On Wheels and On Tires (though they often have variations to get around the filters). If this isn't a sockpuppet of Eurofan, can you still block this user per username violation (too similar to a sockmaster).
The problem may be a username violation, rather than evidence of sockpuppetry. Sorry. Train of Knowledge (Talk) 22:05, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes people may pick usernames that they don't know are associated with long-term abusers or sockpuppets, such as this user. I should've thought of that before reporting. Next time I will only report for behavioural violations, rather than simply username violations. Train of Knowledge (Talk) 22:08, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of Europefan sockpuppets confirmed by dewiki SPI are active on enwiki as well. You might want to check for additional (sleeper) accounts on enwiki. Johannnes89 (talk) 20:51, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Zeilgerbadener might be another sockpuppet, although not confirmed by dewiki SPI (no activity on dewiki). I just noticed an IP likely related to Europefan writing in the same draft (which of course CU cannot confirm). --Johannnes89 (talk) 21:04, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Just a few weeks after the previous batch of EF socks were blocked, this account pops up and re-creates two articles (Franz von Ballestrem and Reichensperger; the only two articles which they have edited) that were previously created by a EF sock and then G5 deleted. Seems pretty close to duck, but requesting CU due to the small sample size. Curbon7 (talk) 00:28, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New user Georina was registered earlier today, and straight away submitted to AfC two drafts,

Draft:Levetzow and Draft:Albert von Levetzow, both of which were previously created by Europefan. Which seems quite a coincidence to me. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:48, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply

  • CU somehow came out as unlikely, but the behavior is identical to the Blodanama report from last week. Based on this userlog, just a week after the previous sock was blocked for doing this exact thing, this user re-creates two EF drafts, one of which is a person and the other is a surname. Compare these two contrib logs ([54][55]); although the article names are different, they are identical in behavior. Curbon7 (talk) 17:21, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly to the the Georina sock from last month ([56]), this account beat the CU, but the behavioral evidence is identical (that is, insta-creating a previously deleted EF draft). Curbon7 (talk) 19:51, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can only report what I see in the CU data. There's all kinds of ways socks can obfuscate things. If you feel the behavioral evidence justifies a block on its own, a negative CU finding shouldn't rule that out. RoySmith (talk) 20:06, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, no issue there; I was just explaining the situ for future reference, since it is likely this won't be the end of this sock-chain. Curbon7 (talk) 21:38, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Note: We've seen IP edits likely related to Europefan/GLGerman at dewiki from 20+ different (and very large) IP ranges over the past years, that's why dewiki CU sometimes cannot confirm obvious Europefan sockpuppets as well. Johannnes89 (talk) 09:43, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
