About WikiProject Woking

WikiProject Woking is a wiki project focusing on

Woking, Surrey
. It was started by Willrocks10 and pbl1998 in a bid to improve all Woking-related articles along with improving Wikipedia's coverage of all Woking-related articles.

About Woking

Woking is a large town in the United Kingdom. Woking Town Centre has a population of 62,000 with the Borough housing 92,000. Woking was included in the Domesday Book under the name Wochinges. Woking has a Tudor palace (It is actually an old hunting lodge), although it is in ruins. Woking is one of the largest towns in Surrey.

The Basingstoke Canal runs through the town, with the River Wey and the Wey Navigation running through the Borough. The Town has two shopping centres,

The Peacocks
and the smaller Wolsey Place.

Woking also has a Blue Square Bet Premier Team, Woking F.C., as well as a hockey club, which is one of the best in the country, and other sports teams.

Brookwood, Surrey - A local village, famous for being the largest cemetery in the British Isles and one of the largest in Western Europe. It was planned to be much bigger than it actually is.

Basingstoke Canal - A Canal that runs through Woking. Completed in 1794, closed in 1932 and restored 10th May 1991.

Byfleet - A local village.

Church of St Andrew, Goldsworth Park

Export House - Article on the tallest building in Woking. A neat page that has had a lot of work put into. Aim is to make it a good article in the next year.

Goldsworth Park - Article on Goldsworth Patk. Goldsworth used to be the biggest housing estate in Europe when it was completed.

GU postcode area - Woking is within the GU postcode area.
