Boughton is a village and a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk.[1] The village is 44.4 miles (71.5 km) west of Norwich, 15.1 miles (24.3 km) south-south-east of King's Lynn and 97.7 miles (157.2 km) north-east of London. The nearest town is Downham Market which is 7.3 miles (11.7 km) west of the village.

History

Boughton derives from the Anglo-Saxon meaning 'Bucca's' farmstead.[2]

In the Domesday Book, Boughton was a settlement of 24 households and was divided between Reginald, son of Ivo and Ralph Baynard.[3]

The village is north of the route

Norwich International Airport, although unusually for a village of this size, it has two separate airstrips, Boughton North and Boughton South. For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk
.

War memorial

Boughton's war memorial is located in All Saints' Churchyard and takes the form of a stone cross.[5]
