apparent visual magnitude of 6.52[2] The distance to this star is very nearly 10 parsecs, so the absolute magnitude of 6.51[3] is nearly the same as the star's apparent magnitude. HR 5256 is drifting nearer to the Sun with a radial velocity of −26.4 km/s,[1] and will make its closest approach to the Sun in about 333,000±16,000 years, when it will be at a distance of 12.72 ± 0.65 light-years.[9]
