Shirud (Persian: شيرود) is a city in the Central District of Tonekabon County, Mazandaran province, Iran. It is the merger of the following villages: Bala Shirud, Beramsar, Hemmatabad, Kaseh Gar Mahalleh, Khezr Konar, Kochanak, Lapa Sar, Lashtu, Mian Daj Mahalleh, Mohammadabad, Mojtame-ye Meskuni Farhangian, Pain Shirud, Ramj Mahalleh, Rashidiyeh, Shaghuz Kaleh, Sharifabad, Tamijanak, Vachak, and Zaruj Mahalleh.[3]

At the 2006 census, its population (as the villages that merged to become the city of Shirud) was 10,454 in 3,001 households.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 10,429 people in 3,278 households,[5] by which time the city of Shirud had been established in the merger of 19 villages.[3] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 11,377 people in 3,851 households.[2]
