==Early life==

Miah was born in [[Sylhet District]], [[Bangladesh]]. ==Political career==

In May 2006, Miah was elected councillor for the [[London Borough of Tower Hamlets]] and Chairman of the [[Respect Party]]. He is a member of the Respect National Committee. ==Other work==

Miah is involved in various voluntary organisation in the borough. He has led campaigns including defending council housing and tackling over crowding, opposing drug dealing, poverty, justice for the people of Palestine, [[2003 invasion of Iraq|invasion of Iraq]] and [[War in Afghanistan (2001–present)|Afghanistan]], racism as well as other issues.<ref name="bbwhoswho09"/>

Miah is a presenter of local radio show ''Easy Talk''. He is also a martial arts instructor<ref name="socialistunity"/> and a silver and bronze UK medalist in [[stick fighting]].{{fact|date=March 2014}} In 1994, at the age of 23, he represented Great Britain in 1994 World Stick Fighting Championship in the Philippines.{{fact|date=March 2014}}
