This reads like an advertisment for all the companies that use .co. That is very unprofessional. We don't need to use an encyclopedia to figure that out. A two second Google search will find that out for us.

I was sure I remembered there used to be domains for sale under .uk.co (presumablly aimed at those who had missed out on their preffered .co.uk domain) and indeed when I go to www.uk.co I get the following message. "We are the operators and administrators of the .co top level domain name. Your registrar (the person from whom you obtained your uk.co domain name) Net Registrar uk.co Limited ("Net Registrar") was, until the end of 16 February 2003, the operator of uk.co sub-domains under a contract with us. "

While this doesn't directly contrdict the article it does contradict some stuff that is implied in it. Does anyone have more details? Plugwash (talk) 15:11, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note that 2003 was a long time ago. The page you mention is badly outdated. On the other hand, many changes are happening at the .co ccTLD. I updated some of the information and added several references. Xqsd (talk) 12:08, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There needs to be something in this article about the old domains such as .uk.co. I remember when they suddenly disappeared, and when I read about the new commercial .co domain today I came to this article to read about the old domains, only to find no information. Due to repeated spamming by anonymous users, I had added the following comment in the source code above the list of Accredited Registrars:

Unfortunately this warning was ignored, as I suspected it would be. The structure of this section effectively invites spamming (see Phrasing to avoid under

), so I have now removed the list, but kept the explanation of what Accredited Registrars are. I don′t believe this reduces the utility of the article as the official list is available at the referenced source and, unlike Wikipedia, is not vulnerable to spamming by domain resellers.

It seems your comment is more than six months old, but I second your concerns. This page was apparently used as part of a widespread marketing campaign by some domain registrars and resellers. I have reverted some of the changes and set the links to the official registrar linked to at the IANA Root Domain Delegation database. This is an encyclopedia article, not an advertisement. Re-emphasize: we have a very clear policy, explained at WP:ADVERT. Our encyclopedia pages are not for commercial advertisement; spammy contributions will be reverted. The cited article quotes a Google spokesperson as saying "We will rank .co domains appropriately if the content is globally targeted. Webmasters will soon have the functionality to be able to specify this by using the geotargeting options in Google Webmaster Tools." This would mean that the owner of .co domains wanting it to be treated as globally targeted will have to register with Google Webmaster Tools, verify the site, and indicate that they want it to be globally targeted.
