He wasn't 'banned'. HIs visa was put under extra consideration which, considering the comments listed in this article but not reported by ANY Australian major media outlet, was perhaps wise. His visa has now been granted, however. Jgda 22:02, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the wake of Barack Obama's election to the US presidency, Atwan was quoted as comparing the situation in Algeria unfavorably with the US, pointing out that Bouteflika (the Algerian pres.) had just had the laws changed to make himself president for life. Atwan further stated that in most current Arab nations Obama would be recognized as "a slave." He made further comments about racism in Arab culture and society. User Poynai, you are incorrectly claiming that the sources you provide discuss the attack in the context of 'an Iranian response to an attack against its nuclear facilities'. Let me analyze the sources to show this:

• As far as the first source (Jerusalem Post) - you agree with me that for this source, that is not the context, so no point in going into details, other than to note it uses the formulation "Talking about Iran's nuclear capability on ANB Lebanese television on June 27" exactly as in our article.
• Second source, JTA, in it's entirety, says "London editor: I’d celebrate Israel’s nuking (By · August 29, 2007) The editor of an Arabic daily newspaper in London said he would “dance with delight” if Iranian missiles hit Israel. “If the Iranian missiles strike Israel, by Allah, I will go to Trafalgar Square and dance with delight,” said Abd Al-Bari Atwan in an interview with the Lebanese television station ANB in June, according to The Jerusalem Post." - clearly there is no mention here of any retaliation for an attack against Iranian nuclear facilities
• 3rd source,Toronto Star, context is "Discussing nuclear proliferation and the possibility of war between the U.S. and Iran," - doesn't mention any "response" or an attack on Iranian facilities, and is clearly more in line with the version that says 'Speaking about Iran's nuclear capability' (i.e proliferation), than a version that says "discussing an Iranian response to an attack against its nuclear facilities"
• 4th source, Jewish Chronicle" 'He has previously been captured on video in 2007 on MEMRI TV saying: "If the Iranian missiles strike Israel - by Allah, I will go to Trafalgar Square and dance with delight if the Iranian missiles strike Israel."- no mention of any Iranian retaliation for an attack on its nuclear facilities.
• 5th source, Jerusalem post again, 'In 2007, speaking about Iran’s nuclear capability on ANB Lebanese television, he said: “If the Iranian missiles strike Israel, by Allah, I will go to Trafalgar Square and dance with delight.' - exactly as we have it in our article.

In short, not one of the 5 sources make any mention of an Iranian "response" to an attack on its nuclear facilities, and two sources uses the exact formulation that was in the article prior to your reverts. Misrepresentation of sources is a very serious matter - i hope the reason for this is just sloppy reading, because if it is intentional, it could lead to more serious consequences. The whole section on Atwan's views seems selected with the aim of making him look bad for a Western audience. It's not explanatory but just cherry-picking of out-of-context quotes. Whether the quotes are true or not, the intention and the POV are clear. I suggest it should be removed or transformed into a coherent explanation of Mr Atwan political stances, but in a neutral, encyclopedic tone. And, if possible, written by someone who does not hate the man.

I agree that this seems to be a highly jaundiced view of Atwan . And, yes, it comes close to being character assassination that should not be on Wikipedia. I just watched Atwan on CSPAN (http://www.c-span.org/person/?abdelbariatwan). He talked to an American audience about his book: Islamic State- The Digital Caliphate. From what I heard, he is a serious analyst whom we should listen carefully to. The points he made about the so-called Islamic State all appear to be of a man who is well versed in the current situation. He was emphatic that the “Islamic” State is run brutally – and efficiently- by a cadre of Saddam Hussein's ex-Republican Guard; that its extremist ideology founded on Saudi Wahabism; that the "Islamic" State has modern weapons supplied to Saddam Hussein by the Soviet Union as well as abandoned American equipment left behind by the Iraqi Army that failed totally when it first encountered these “Islamic” State fighters. His profile in Wikipedia as it stands at the moment does not seem to be an objective one and needs serious editing.AppealToReason (talk) 20:14, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
