Birthplace

Although Ogilvie states that Aemilia was born in Moselle, France, there was of course no Moselle or France at the time. It looks like Ogilvie got the location from Hurd-Mead's 1938 book A History of Women in Medicine: From the Earliest Times to the Beginning of the Nineteenth Century which states: "...his aunt Aemilia, a woman doctor living near the Moselle, who had helped him get an education." It should be noted that this is referring to the Moselle River, not the French department. I'm not sure where Hurd-Mead got this location from, as it isn't mentioned in Ausonius's poem to Aemilia. Of course one of Ausonius's most famous poems is the Mosella, which is all about the Moselle River. I have to wonder if Hurd-Mead just assumed that Ausonius's family lived near the Moselle River due to the Mosella poem. In actuality, Ausonius's family lived in Bordeaux on the other side of Gaul. Although it looks like most sources have followed Hurd-Mead, Lilian Furst places Aemilia in Bordeaux,[1] which seems more plausible. I suppose we should stick with Ogilvie, since no one else mentions her birth, but I have to wonder where Hurd-Mead got this information from. Perhaps Ausonius mentions his aunt somewhere besides in Parentalia. Kaldari (talk) 08:45, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Birth year

Since Ogilvie gives her death date as c. 363 and Ausonius states that she lived to be 63 years old, I've put her birth year at c. 300. I have no idea where Ogilvie got 363 from though. Kaldari (talk) 09:01, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever works. I just made the article, just to, well, have an article at least. I didn't go into further research, so thanks for doing so!

Rename to Aemilia Hilaria?

I think full names are generally preferred for article titles over disambiguated names (although there are lots of exceptions). What would people think of renaming this article to Aemilia Hilaria? Kaldari (talk) 21:14, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
