Partiality of Description of Schom’s Biography of Napoleon

This article’s description of Napoleon as a terrorist on the level of Hitler and Stalin does not meet Wikipedia’s standards of objectivity. This article presents Schom’s claims in his book as facts, and cites Schom’s use of standard scholarly procedures (citation, inclusion of a bibliography) as evidence of his trustworthiness and innocence on the charges of partiality. This article needs a more detached and objective stance on Schom’s work on Napoleon and the controversy around it. 172.59.185.177 (talk) 18:43, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Classicwiki: I am the editor who has made the largest contribution to the page, at least in recent years. I'm a casual editor who doesn't have the time or patience to get involved in edit wars, so when Schom, or one of his acolytes, came barging in and changed a bunch of stuff I just left this article alone. Anyway, some suggested edits for now:

  • IIRC, no source could be found for his marriage in London to Juliana when I had last had a look, so this should probably be removed.
  • I orginally added a bit of info about his parents, but now I don't think we really need this or to mention that his sister was a psychologist.
  • The 'Biography' and 'Education' sections could be merged into an 'Early life and education' section instead
  • Writing quality needs to be fixed for the paragraph about his education and thesis, but that won't take too long.
The stuff about him taking a one year course in Arabic also needs to be referenced. He gave a 1997 interview on CSPAN where I believe he mentions this.
  • For 'Career' everything in italics needs to be removed as this appears to just be Schom's personal, unreferenced commentary.
  • The line on Wiesenthal is both too verbose and unsupported by any source, so can be reverted to how it was before
  • Not sure about the claim that dastardly Flavio Cotti attempted to prevent publication of the report, only to be thwarted by brave Mr Schom. If there is an online source backing this then it should at least be rewritten in a more neutral fashion. --Leonstojka (talk) 21:52, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
