I know that ADV's booklet that comes with the Platinum DVD says that the episode was co-written by Yoji Enokido, but the Newtype Film Book that I have says that it was Satsukawa. Xenofan 29A 21:29, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article suggests that Asuka's Japanese ancenstry is due to her father; I beg to differ. Her mother is clearly stated to be half-German (her second name, Zeppelin, is clear evidence), half-Japanese, so since Asuka is 3/4 German and 1/4 Japanese, the only possibility left is for the father to a full German (ethnically, regardless of actually nationality). If what I have stated here wrong in some way, please inform me. If not, I request that the article be amended in light of this information. MARQ 20:25, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure the move was a good idea in the first place; my tacit understanding of the MOS was that it was just a general loose set of guidelines in the first place, and that if an article has a very specific, very rigid and given name (such as the TV series specifying exactly that the title of the episode was "ASUKA STRIKES!"...), then that supervened on whatever the MOS might recommend in the absence of a clear title. --

It's not really a general loose set; these things have been discussed extensively and have reached a consensus for them to be guidelines. There can be specific, reasonable exceptions, but I'm not sure there is one here.

Wikipedia:Manual of Style (capital letters)#All caps

says:

Reduce newspaper headlines and other titles from all caps to title case: Replace "WAR BEGINS TODAY" with "War Begins Today". This is what The New York Times does when transcribing its historical collection.

No, you're thinking of this wrong. With the NY Times, there's ambiguity as to what the title is, and so there's a use for the guideline. There's no ambiguity with episode titles of NGE - they are quite clearly either all caps or follow the normal casing rules; when the name of something is quite clear, the MOS has no role to play. "It is important to note that these are conventions, not rules carved in stone....when in doubt, follow convention." We are not in doubt here. The question is not what evidence do we have that the MOS should not apply, but rather what evidence do we have that the MOS should supervene over the show's preferred spelling? --

What Gwern's getting at is that in the eyecatches that are flashed midway through each episode, the English episode titles are given. Some of them are in all-caps, some are not. Yeah but is there any concrete signification for that? Is there an official reason or is this more or less random? I think the article's title should remain at "Asuka Strikes!" to follow the guidelines. Note that this doesn't mean we can't mention the "ASUKA STRIKES!" spelling within the article itself. In this episode, after Asuka is boasting about what makes Unit 02 superior to those manufactured before it, the two lean over a railing and discover that an Angel is attacking. Shinji thinks that they should seek out Misato, but (according to the japanese translation on my DVD) Asuka mischievously turns away and softly murmurs "this is my chance!" . Well, in the English dubbing, I believe she says something in German instead. My set only includes subtitles for the original Japanese version, so I can't be sure what it was that she said.
