While I sympathetic to this section History of Preservation of Battle of Westport Sites and Byram's Ford it reads like it was lifted whole cloth. I did various searches and can't find it online so am leaving it for now. It should probably be rewritten to be more unique and wiki friendly. Americasroof 15:50, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see this notes that Johnny Ringo was in the battle, and yet on his own page it has him heading out west in July of 1864, as a 14-year-old. Is there a contradiction? 128.206.249.150 (talk) 19:39, 25 April 2011 (UTC)bjones[reply]

Good point. I removed the information, since I can't directly check the source to verify it. It certainly does seem to contradict what was on his page, as he wouldn't have been in a wagon with his family at the same approximate time that he was allegedly serving with Price's forces--and probably not at fourteen years of age, if it was the latter. -

shall we include current landmarks for places? I don't know exactly where the "open field" is, for instance, I would like to. "a see-saw battle ensued in the open prairie" is strange. Vacant lots in the land in question -- between Mission Hills and Wornall House -- become woody quickly now, the climate wasn't that much different a century and a half ago. It might have been deforested, but it has never been "open prairie." "Swan Creek" may have had meadows, and the whole thing is sort of a little mesa, but I doubt we've ever had open prairie in the hills of kansas city. Or can a prairie be a forest? Prairie seems to indicate that it could have been prairie once but since it never burns anymore (since there's a city there, and fires get put out) the trees win now but didn't always.
