Watterson Comments

I rewrote the comments concerning Bill Watterson to remove the editorial commentary and to reflect a more neutral POV. I also added the references and links for the quotes. Then moved the entire section out of the friends section and into a new disputes category.CactusWriter (talk) 15:13, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need a firm citation for Jeff succession

Without a citation, the speculation about Bil's successor is crystal-ball-gazing and doesn't belong. Even with a citation, unless it's confirmed in the citation as a firm succession plan like the original Dear Abby had with her daughter, it doesn't belong. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 17:28, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added citation from article in September 2000 issue of Cartoonist Profiles which states that Bil Keane "handpicked his eventual successor. Actually, he created one years ago -- his youngest son." CactusWriter 18:50, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Controversy

I was wondering if anyone though it would be appropriate to include a mention about the controversy that Bil Keane courted when complaining about Aaron McGruder, the creator of The Boondocks? If I can relocate the article in which I saw this appear, I'll post a link to it. It seems to be in the same arena of controversy as what is already mentioned about Bill Watterson. Any opinions? Please contact me on my talk page if you have any suggestions. SailorAlphaCentauri (talk) 16:32, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning a section in the Keane article about McGruder, I think it's mostly non-notable. The dispute between Keane and McGruder was actually the other way around -- McGruder criticized Keane and Mort Walker and a host of others in a New Yorker article in 2004. McGruder complained about a joke made by Bil Keane while Keane was emceeing the Reuben Awards banquet. The emcee at the cartoonist banquet always 'roasts' the attendees, but McGruder took a joke about diversity in comics personally.
I don't think it is an issue about Keane. On the other hand, I do think the New Yorker article is a great reference source for the article about Aaron McGruder. I am a bit surprised that it hasn't been used there. CactusWriter 22:43, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The article from 2004 is used in the McGruder article, but considering the wealth of information it provides, it is being underused. This is being hashed out in the user talk pages, so it's probably quashed on the Keane end of things. SailorAlphaCentauri (talk) 16:23, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Amazon.com

The decade-long tradition of creative deconstruction or vandalism on the reviews of Keane's books on Amazon.com is probably worth a mention as an internet phenomenon.

Timothy Leary friendship

Is there a citation for the sentence about his friendship with Timothy Leary, and their falling out leading to Keane becoming a conservative? I sure can't find another reference to it on the web. Circumspect (talk) 21:31, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Obvious vandalism that can be deleted immediately per
WP:BLP. This is the edit by an IP which also added this bio to Category:Bloods. Thanks for bringing it to attention. CactusWriter (talk) 23:16, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply
