"Meaning" of "Sitting on History"
The photo of the work titled "Sitting on History" at the head of the infobox bears this caption: "The sculpture, with its ball and chain, refers to the book as the captor of information from which we cannot escape." No source is provided for this statement. The "meaning" of a work of art may only be known to the artist themselves, and on the other hand, its meaning may be infinitely varied as each individual experiences it. And it is anathema to many recent artists to attach an explanation for the "meaning" of their works; it's seen as reductive and didactic. If Woodrow did not make this statement himself, it should be removed. Even if it were the opinion of say, his gallerist or a prominent curator or art jouranlist, that would still not justify its inclusion here. Bricology (talk) 01:44, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
