I'm very confused! In Rondo of Blood, is Camilla supposed to be the giant naked woman riding on the skull, or is she the girl that steals hearts and later transforms? I've read she is the girl on the ground, and the skull woman is just a creature she summoned. I've even read (not sure if this is true), that she is supposed to be the woman on the skull and the girl on the ground is supposed to be named Laura (taken from the Carmilla book). What the hell is the right answer?!

Also, the mask from CVII is called Vampira in the American and European manuals, but I'm assuming it's just supposed to be Camilla now since its Japanese kanji, 女吸血鬼, means basically just "woman vampire". Anyone know this one either? Buzda 08:01, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've clarified Camilla's different Japanese names. (Simon's Quest's Camilla seems to have been named retroactively by Japanese fans because Rondo's Camilla uses the exact same mask.) To tell you the truth I'm not sure if she's the woman on the skull or the woman who is at first seated in Rondo. I think she may be the seated woman for the following reasons:

1. The animation makes it seem like the seated woman controls the mask, using it to conjure the skull before the mask itself falls away and the woman on top of it appears.
2. The skull woman can die and disappear before the seated woman. (I'm not sure offhand if it can work the other way around, but I don't think so.) Guermantes 09:04, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well I have no official sources, but after e-mailing the vgmuseum webmaster about this, he says, according to the official Rondo guide, the woman on the ground who later transforms, is in fact a girl named Laura and that would obviously make the woman atop the skull, Camilla. The thing is, he obtained this information from someone else, so it may not be accurate. Although, this would make a lot of sense since in the Carmilla novel, Laura is Carmilla's companion in some of it. Buzda 08:16, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I was just looking at a scan of Rondo's manual, and Carmilla is shown as the woman on the skull. And the picture also has the woman on the skull, unlike the sprite in game, wearing a mask. Buzda 09:24, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it doesn't look like the Rondo guide that I looked at has her name in it. (At least, not in the Camilla boss battle section.) However, I have found a few Japanese websites that list the seated woman as Laura. I'll see if I can get better confirmation, though. Guermantes 21:51, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great work! You even added the info about the Camilla model for CV64, which I was thinking about adding.

I almost wonder if the Circle of the Moon team (a different team then Rondo, of course) was confused with the whole "who's who" deal with Carmilla and Laura in Rondo. The reason I say this is because Camilla's regular, non-demon form in COTM is very similar, although certainly not identical, to Laura's first form in Rondo seen HERE and HERE. Laura appears in PoR. I think, but can't remember exactly, that she looked like the skull woman in Rondo. This makes me beleive that Camilla is the seated woman, and Laura is the skull woman.

I've been trying to find out if the skull sorceress in Castlevania: Dracula X for the SNES is named "Camilla," "Annette," or something else (in Japanese). She looks like Camilla atop the skull, but sites say that she is either simply a skull sorceress or Annette. (If you don't rescue Annette you will fight the skull sorceress instead of Death in the clocktower.) I'm not sure if the popular idea that "the sorceress is Annette turned into a witch because you failed to save her" is speculation or is based in fact... but I can't find the character's Japanese name anywhere. Yeah, I can't find anything either. I'm pretty positive they wouldn't make her Camilla, since they changed Shaft into the Cloaked Sorcerer (Ghost in Japan) for CV:DX. I've been assured that the sorceress is at least Annette by someone who's familiar with the game. There is an animation in Dracula X in which the skull appears and transforms her into the Camilla-esque enemy. Also, I've tried to make her names clearer (and added references) because even some of the oldest Castlevania fans have no idea what's going on with her name. Hello. It seems like you two have been doing a lots of things on several Castlevania articles. Good job. As for that monster being Camilla or not... I'm really not sure. I've never played this game, just Rondo, but it does make sense that she could be a "Camilla that's not really Camilla". Just some monster that didn't get the name in the end. Yeah, so many of the Castlevania character pages need work... I feel like I'd be doing a disservice by not formatting them and pulling out all the fan fiction. Yes, they renamed Shaft "Ghost" in Dracula X. Check out this j manual scan (page 23). (They also took Iris and Tera out of the game.) I am still on the lookout for the Skull Sorceress' name, though. The 13 clues of Dracula (the hidden red books throughout the game), offer something that brought my attention. For clue #11 (as it is numbered as on this page [3]), it states "Dracula's evil knife blurs Camilla's vision." Also, a section to the left of Laruba Mansion, which is where Vampira is, is called "Camilla Cemetary". I guess it's called "Carmilla Cemetary" in the Japanese game.

I have no idea if they are actually referencing Vampira/Female Vampire as Camilla, since much of the text in this game seems to be mistranslated. I wonder what the text in the Japanese FDS game states... Buzda 10:26, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent. This had me looking closer at the Simon's Quest manual, and indeed the map (on page 17) has "カミーラ" (Camilla) Cemetery. However, I'm not sure if this will allow us to chalk up another name for Camilla... Unless the clue ends up saying something like "Camilla can be found in Laruba Mansion" it might be best to put it in the Trvia section. (Although, many of the Japanese sites go ahead and call her Camilla. Maybe there's something we're missing...) Guermantes
