Keep in mind that he was not team MVP as a junior or a senior and was not All-B1G as a senior (when his stats fell off). It is fairly common for a person who is not All-B1G (top 15 plus honorable mentions) as a senior (especially when the Big Ten was only 11 teams — vs. the current 14 team and next year 18 team format) to be choosing between the DLeague(now G League) and Europe (where the pay is better).-

Further regarding him making it in the US. Some guys do the NBA summer league and try to get training camp invites and/or D-League/G-League contracts. Those guys may end up signing with international teams in October-November or even December. However, he signed with France in late July according to a July 23, 2005
