There are many additional aspects of domestic violence in Brazil. First, the nature of the domestic violence in Brazil should be explained clearly. Cultural beliefs and socioeconomic status have been found to be associated with levels of domestic violence. In addition, the economical impacts to individual communities and to the entire Chilean economy should certainly be included, as this aspect leads to broader consideration of the issue. SERNAM, The Chilean National Ministry for Women, should be discussed in more detail as this group would be strongly involved in advocating for women's protection. I'm removing the claim that "Domestic violence in Brazil is widespread and underreported."

The citation used to support this claim refers to the quote "Domestic violence remained both widespread and underreported; on August 7, President Lula signed the Law of Domestic and Family Violence," which explains President Lula's motivations for signing the new law, back in 2006.

There is no source with up-to-date information showing that these crimes are still widespread and underreported today, in 2013. In fact, all statistics point to significant improvements in reporting and prosecution of such crimes.

Also, as a general rule, virtually all crimes are underreported. Unless every single instance of a crime is reported, it is underreported by definition. Therefore, when using terms such as "underreported", it is necessary to cite sound estimates of the percentage of cases which go unreported so that the reader can decide for themselves if it is "underreported" beyond reasonable levels or not.

The article lacks a clear description of what is considered domestic violence in Brazil as described by the Law of Domestic and Family Violence of 2006. In this same law we can find a clear description in which "domestic violence against women or family violence is considered any action or omission that results in death, lesion, physical, sexual or psychological pain and suffering, moral or patrimonial damage" ^[1] TatianeMarques (talk) 22:19, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There was a confusion on pt.wiki because domestic violence was translated from here, but there are many cases of domestic violence against elderly, children, etc. It's because Lei Maria da Penha is about domestic and family violence against women and this creates confusion about the concept of domestic violence.
