Images of recently deceased people

The subject of this article was in the public eye and as such a free image should still be used. The subject was still alive just a few days ago and a photo could have been taken of him. See Roy Scheider for the sort of image I'm talking about. (Quentin X (talk) 13:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]

While there may be "no harm done" photos of actors and TV personalities in the public eye who are recently deceased should not be included in articles unless it can be proved that none exist. Mr Davis attended both Stargate and X-Files conventions, so there should be a lot of free images out there. The Stargate image infringes copyright and should not be used. Assuming the existence of a free image is dubious in a copyright regime where someone has to take specific action to make a photograph free. Now, I'm sure with enough lobbying of Stargate fans, sooner or later someone will step up to the plate and make one of his snapshots free. The issue of living public figures is that theoretically at least, YOU the editor could go to one of his public events and take your own photo and release it. This is common sense that should have been applied when this argument took place back in 2008. To this day I love the role he played on STARGATE SG-1. But to argue about a picture of the man is shameful. Message from his Family after his death

Dear Fans and Friends of Don S. Davis,

So many of you have been touched by not only the work and art of Don S. Davis, but by the man himself, who always took the time to be with you at the appearances he loved, that it is with a tremendous sense of loss I must share with you that Don passed away from a massive heart attack on Sunday morning, June 29th.

On behalf of his family and wife, Ruby, we thank you for your prayers and condolences. A family memorial where Don's ashes will be scattered in the ocean will take place in a few weeks, and should you wish to, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in Don's memory.

I refute "sic" thusly

Is there a reason for the "sic" after 'Davis said he once worked carving wooden "cigar store Indians"'? There doesn't appear to be any error/inaccuracy which would indicate that cigar store Indian needs to be qualified with a "no, we didn't make a mistake, he really said 'cigar store Indian'" which the term sic usually impiles.
